DON SWANN

Don Swann's background is in manufacturing consulting. After taking a degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech (BIE, '67) he served in roles from new engineer to COO and everything in between, "creating order from chaos," as a former colleague put it. He built Deloitte's manufacturing consultancy for the Southeast from scratch to 165 consultants. Once Atlanta's Engineer of the Year, he has published scores of articles on his cost improvement techniques... In his career, Swann met and solved more than a few business mysteries, all of which helped to ignite his creative side. After retiring from Deloitte, he began to create Freddie Chapman stories: fictional accounts of real business problems. In fact, in the stories Freddie uses many of the manufacturing principles Swann helped to bring into action in consulting decades ago. With all of the recycled-but-still-useful consulting knowledge floating around the business these days, Swann hopes that young consultants might learn..
