Adam Schachter

Adam Schachter is the Managing Partner of Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A. and is one of its co-founders. Adam has a national litigation practice, representing clients in trial and appellate courts across the country on a wide range of legal matters. Combining litigation savvy with a deep understanding of business issues, Adam has the proven ability to assist his clients in both the courtroom and the boardroom, where he regularly assists clients in resolving business disputes quietly and cost effectively. Adam has been repeatedly recognized by his peers as one of Florida's top lawyers. He was named one of the Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 in South Florida and the prestigious Chambers and Partners recognized him as a leading practitioner in the area of commercial litigation. Adam has been lead counsel in a number of high-profile, high-stakes legal battles. Representing both plaintiffs and defendants, Adam has tried and litigated complex business disputes in Florida, New York, Delaware, California, Illinois, and across the country. Adam also represents international clients in resolving their business disputes in the United States and in foreign jurisdictions. Adam has also represented clients in state and federal government investigations and administrative proceedings, and he also practices in the area of land use and real estate litigation, in which he has represented developers, landowners and several Florida municipalities in the courts and before government and regulatory agencies. Adam also has a robust appellate practice. He has argued before the Florida Supreme Court on more than one occasion, securing precedent setting victories for his clients on important constitutional issues. Most recently, Adam argued before the Florida Supreme Court on behalf of the sponsor of a proposed constitutional amendment on the issue of casino gambling, securing a favorable ruling for his client that will allow the proposed amendment to appear on the ballot in Florida. Adam also twice represented a voting rights organization before the Florida Supreme Court, prevailing both times on issues of significant importance to Florida voters. Adam has also argued numerous appeals before the Florida state appellate courts and the federal appellate courts. Adam received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and then attended Georgetown University Law Center. After spending his early years at a prominent law firm in New York representing clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, Adam moved to South Florida to serve as a law clerk to Judge Patricia Seitz in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Following his clerkship, Adam became a partner at one of Florida's most respected law firms, where he represented companies, local governments and individuals in all manner of commercial disputes and complex litigations. In addition to the practice of law, Adam also serves on the board of directors for Transition, Inc., which helps provide job training and placement services to ex-offenders. Adam also previously served as chairman of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee. Born and raised in New York, Adam has made Miami his home for the past eighteen years with his wife, three children, and two dogs.

Barbara R. Llanes

Barbara advises companies and individuals on a wide range of criminal, regulatory and civil matters, including matters involving the U.S. Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, state and local prosecutors' offices, and other domestic and international enforcement and regulatory agencies. A seasoned former federal prosecutor who is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese, Barbara represented the U.S. Department of Justice for more than eleven years, domestically and in Latin America, in international investigations and complex criminal matters. Barbara has unique insight into the workings of multi-national and multi-agency investigations and prosecutions. Chambers and Partners ranked Barbara as one of South Florida's top attorneys for White Collar Crime and Government Investigations, describing her as "intelligent, creative, compassionate and responsive" and noting that her "vision and service to clients are excellent." Before joining the firm, Barbara headed the Department of Justice's Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training (OPDAT) in Mexico. During her three years in Mexico, Barbara worked closely with authorities in the United States, Mexico and other countries in Latin America on cross-border matters involving money laundering, asset forfeiture, public corruption, fraud, human trafficking and cyber crimes. Barbara also trained hundreds of foreign law enforcement professionals and judges, often in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement agencies, on financial investigations, asset forfeiture and trial strategy. In 2019, Barbara was invited to advise Mexico's federal legislature in its efforts to overhaul the country's asset forfeiture laws. Prior to her time in Mexico, Barbara served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey, where she spent several years in the Office's Public Corruption Unit and served as Chief of the Organized Crime and Gangs Unit and Chief of the General Crimes Unit. Barbara tried several high-profile cases to verdict, and investigated, prosecuted and supervised hundreds of matters involving mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, bribery, embezzlement, illegal kickbacks, extortion, murder for hire, RICO, tax fraud and tax evasion schemes, aggravated identity theft, narcotrafficking, computer hacking and civil rights violations. Barbara also has extensive experience handling high-impact civil litigation. She has successfully defended clients in multi-million dollar securities and environmental litigation and in commercial disputes involving cutting-edge legal and factual issues. Before joining government service, Barbara was a litigator at Paul Weiss in New York, where she played a lead role in a number of high-stakes commercial, criminal and regulatory matters. As part of her pro bono work, Barbara has represented indigent defendants in state and federal courts, clients seeking asylum in the United States, children in need of appropriate educational accommodations and parents defending their ability to maintain their parental rights. Barbara is a member of various professional organizations, including the Federal Bar Association, the Women's White Collar Defense Network, the American Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association. As a member of the Bench and Bar Conference Committee, Barbara helped organize and put on the 2023 Bench and Bar Conference in Miami Beach, Florida. Barbara has delivered presentations at numerous national and international conferences on topics such as "Money Laundering and Asset Forfeiture," "U.S. and Latin America Tax Practice Trends," "Money Laundering and New Technologies," "Anticorruption and Investigations in Mexico," "The Role of Lawyers in Advancing Sustainable Development" and "Corporate Criminal Liability and Compliance." She also has provided legal analysis and commentary on domestic and international outlets such as CNN EspaƱol, Telemundo, WPLG Local 10 News, El Financiero TV Bloomberg, Radio Caracol, Reuters and the Miami Herald. Barbara previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul C. Huck, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Florida. She earned her law degree from Stanford University School of Law, where she was the Development Editor for Stanford's Journal of International Law and a staff editor for Stanford's Journal of Law & Public Policy. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish from Emory University, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was Captain and MVP of the Cross-Country team and the NCAA Institutional Woman of the Year. Barbara emigrated from Cuba and settled in Miami as a child. She has lived and worked overseas in Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico. She now lives in Miami with her husband and two children.

Christopher Sundby

Christopher Sundby joined Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A. after serving as a law clerk to Judge Adalberto Jordan on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He has also served as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Miami School of Law where he recently taught a seminar in Law and Neuroscience. Chris became only the second student to receive both a law degree and a PhD in neuroscience through Vanderbilt University's joint law and neuroscience program. Chris graduated Order of the Coif and served as Senior Articles Editor on the Vanderbilt Law Review and worked in the Vanderbilt Appellate Litigation Clinic. He also served as a teaching assistant for Evidence Law and gave guest lectures in the Law and Neuroscience and Introduction to Psychology courses. While at Vanderbilt he received the Scholastic Excellence award for earning the top grade in Contracts Law, Patent Law, and Law and Neuroscience. He was also awarded the Best Oralist Award for the mock trial competition. Chris was a National Institute of Justice Graduate Research Fellow and his research focused on the psychological underpinnings of the Federal Rules of Evidence and the formation and retrieval of memory. He continues to be active in research and has published on the intersection of law and neuroscience in a range of journals serving different audiences including the Texas Law Review, the Connecticut Law Review, The SciTech Lawyer, and Memory and Cognition, and he has presented his research at several national conferences. Chris lives with his wife and dog in Coconut Grove.

Dan Gelber

Dan Gelber has handled some of Florida's most sensitive and complex legal matters. As a top federal prosecutor and as an attorney in private practice, he has shown the kind of judgment and legal acumen that attracts clients who expect their attorney to be the best in the courtroom or at the negotiating table. He is AV rated and listed in Best Lawyers in America, Florida Legal Elite, South Florida Top Lawyers, and was also recently named to the 100 most influential people in Florida politics. Dan is one of the only two Florida lawyers ranked by the prestigious Chambers and Partners as an Eminent Practitioner in the field of White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations. In its recent rankings, Chambers praised Dan as "extraordinary" and noted his "unmatched experience." As a federal prosecutor for nearly a decade, Dan handled national cases including public corruption, economic and environmental crimes, civil rights, health care fraud and government fraud cases. He argued appellate cases in the Eleventh and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. He eventually became the top deputy in an office of over 200 lawyers. Dan left the United States Attorney's Office and was tapped by former United States Senator Sam Nunn to be the Chief Counsel and Staff Director to the United States Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Dan led a team of prosecutors and federal agents in investigating international terrorism, cyber security issues, and fraud waste and abuse in government programs. As an attorney in private practice, Dan has been with some of Florida's finest law firms, where he represented companies in both government and internal investigations, white-collar matters, and complex litigations. He has tried employment, trademark, commercial and contract disputes as lead counsel, represented major companies in class actions and complex litigation, and conducted internal investigations for corporate and health care clients. Dan has argued civil appeals in the federal and state appellate courts. He has also been appointed by the federal court as a Receiver of a major securities fraud. In addition to practicing law, Dan currently serves as Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, having been elected in November 2017. Previously, Dan served for a decade as a Florida State Senator and State Representative, and was elected the House Minority Leader in 2006. He was the Democratic nominee to be Attorney General of Florida in 2010, and is considered to be one of Florida's most respected voices on public policy. Dan attended Tufts University and the University of Florida College of Law, where he was a Truman Scholar. He has been a volunteer Big Brother since 1985, and co-founded a summer camp for children with cancer, where he has volunteered most summers since 1986. Dan is a native Floridian and lives with wife, Joan Silverstein, and their three children in Miami Beach.

Daniel Walsh

Daniel Walsh joined Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A. following a two-year clerkship with United States Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman in the Southern District of Florida. During those two years, Daniel assisted Judge Goodman with managing a wide-range of civil and criminal cases. Before clerking, Daniel spent four and a half years as a prosecutor at the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, finishing his tenure in the Career Criminal and Robbery Unit. As a prosecutor, Daniel tried more than thirty jury trials, serving as lead counsel in the majority of those cases. In addition to his trial work, Daniel represented the State of Florida at bond hearings, pretrial hearings, sentencings, and in appellate matters. Daniel earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. While at Georgetown, Daniel served as a research assistant for Professor Paul Butler and researched a variety of issues related to the criminal justice system. Daniel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Barry University, where he was a goalkeeper for the men's soccer team. Daniel lives with his cat in Coral Gables.

Gerald Greenberg

Juan Carlos Zamora

Juan Carlos Zamora is a civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense attorney at Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A. J.C. represents clients in federal and state courts as well as both domestic and international arbitrations. He has experience in complex criminal cases as well as civil matters involving breach of contract, corporate disputes, and fraud, often involving foreign jurisdictions. J.C.'s diverse practice also includes the investigation and review of possible violations of federal law brought by whistleblowers, helping those who report infractions obtain their fair share of government recoveries. No matter what the case, J.C. prides himself on guiding his clients in their cases from start to finish, and he is involved in every aspect of the matter, both in and out of court. Prior to joining the firm, J.C. clerked for District Judges Jose E. Martinez and Federico A. Moreno in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. As a law clerk, he assisted the judges in a wide variety of federal matters, managing extensive civil and criminal caseloads. Before clerking, J.C. served as an Assistant State Attorney at the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, where he prosecuted cases involving felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile offenses. As a prosecutor, he tried more than 20 jury trials, including a first-degree murder case that resulted in a conviction. When not in trial, J.C. represented the State of Florida at bond hearings, arraignments, motion calendars, and sentencing hearings. J.C. has also taught as a visiting professor of legal writing at the University of Miami School of Law and conducted classes in persuasive writing and federal criminal motions as an adjunct professor. He continues to mentor students, volunteering as a Resume Writing Coach through the Posse Foundation. He earned his B.A. in History and Political Science, cum laude, from the University of Florida and his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law. In law school, J.C. served as a Senior Notes and Comments Editor on the University of Miami Law Review and was a Fellow in the Miami STREET Law Program.
