Dr. Bartel is originally from West Tennessee and did her undergraduate training at UT Knoxville, graduate school at Florida Atlantic University, and medical school at University of Miami. She did a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the training hospitals of the University of Miami in Miami, Florida, where she lived for 10 years. She has been happily married for 5 years and has a 13 year old step-daughter, twin 4 year old sons, and a very goofy standard poodle named Atticus. Dr. Danielle English-Mangum grew up in Durham, NC and currently resides in Knightdale. She graduated UNC-Greensboro with BS in Biology 2004 and completed dental school at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2008. Danielle has been a practicing dentist with RHG for 6 years. When she is not working, she enjoys going to the movies and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Dorsey-Leake is originally from Delaware and grew up in Maryland. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and her Medical degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She began her Pediatric career in Maryland and moved to the Roanoke Valley in January 2013. Please come visit our outstanding pediatric staff! Dr. Ronald (Ron) Hughes is a Family Physician who has been practicing in Whitakers since 1981. Since merging his practice with Rural Health Group in 2009 he has assumed the responsibility of Clinical Director for the entire organization. This involves overseeing the other 25+ medical providers and working with them to uphold the highest quality standards. Dr. Hughes has lived in Whitakers for the past 33 years where he and his wife raised their 3 sons. He is now the proud grandfather of 7, including a set of 4 year old triplets.

Rural Health Group's visionary leader, Dr. Melvin Broadnax, was the soul of this organization since 1974 when Melvin and other community leaders decided that Northampton County needed health care. He worked tirelessly with the NC Office of Rural Health (Jim Bernstein, Burnie Patterson, etc.), politicians and local leaders (Jack Faison, Doc Brown) to make his dream of medical care in Jackson a reality.
Melvin was not just our first and only board chairman for close to 40 years, he was the impetus behind the Group's dedication to the underserved. His compassion for others and his passion for equal access to superior quality health care have been the underpinnings of RHG and will continue to drive RHG.
