Andrew Cuthbert

Biography Andrew is a Principal Consultant at Roberts Environmental and provides a broad range of experience, covering the management, design, and implementation of geo-environmental site investigation, the production of Phase 1, Phase 2 and Validation reports, landfill gas assessment, designing and undertaking Biological Water Quality Surveys, Flood Risk Assessments, and the management of multi-disciplinary development projects. Andrew has worked in both the private and public sector, having worked for Watermen Energy Environment and Design, Environmental Resources Management and the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen. Andrew is a Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and a Chartered Environmentalist(CEnv).

Ben Lawry

Biography Ben is an Associate Director, Head of ESG and Sustainability at Roberts Environmental and is responsible for achieving the ambitions set out in the firm's Sustainability Road Map, ensuring that Roberts Environmental' s sustainability strategy continues to evolve to changing market demands. Ben also manages a range of Geo-Environmental and Sustainability projects and has experience in the preparation of Phase I Environmental Assessments, Due Diligence Reports, Phase II Geo-environmental Site Investigations and Risk Assessments and Coal Mining Risk Assessments.

Emily Broughton

Biography Emily recently graduated from Newcastle University with an MSc in Environmental Engineering and joined Roberts Environmental in March 2018 as a graduate consultant. She initially developed a keen sense for the environment and physical geography at Northumbria University where she gained proficiency in land degradation and remediation, environmental legislation and regulations and environmental fieldwork. Since joining Roberts Environmental, Emily has gained experience in the provision of Phase I reports, Phase II Site Investigations, Due Diligence Reports and Coal Mining Risk Assessments and to date has worked on site investigations for large residential developments in Northumberland as well as Due Diligence reports for larger London based portfolios.

Emma Locke

Job Titles:
  • Finance Manager
Biography Emma joined Roberts Environmental in April 2022 as Finance Manager. She previously worked as a Finance Manager within a high growth SME, helping them refine their procedures and controls, and ensure the right commercial decisions were made to allow safe and continuous expansion. Prior to that, she had been a key part of the finance team for growing manufacturing businesses, ensuring timely and accurate production of management information. Emma gained her AAT qualification in 2017, and outside of work is currently studying a Business and Management degree with Northumbria University to broaden and enhance her wider business knowledge. Emma's experience within growing SMEs allows her to lead the company on all financial aspects of the business.

Jeff Roberts - Managing Director

Biography Jeff set up Roberts Environmental Ltd having previously worked for GVA Grimley Ltd as an Associate Director where he headed up the Environmental Services department for the North of England and Scotland. He has also worked in consultancy for WSP Environmental Ltd in the London market and Waterman Environmental within the North East. Jeff provides a service that identifies the environmental risks and liabilities for investors, banks and developers. In jargon-free terms, he assesses the many complex issues which can arise in assessing environmental land quality. Jeff's work includes all aspects of land quality, due diligence auditing, flood risk, site investigation and remediation project management. Over the years, Jeff has worked as a consultant for many Government Departments, Local Authorities, major landowners and FTSE100 companies advising on land contamination issues and remediation strategies. Jeff is a Member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences and a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).

Kieran Tappin

Job Titles:

Biography Kieran is a Consultant at Roberts Environmental joining the company in 2020, having previously worked in the ground investigation industry since 2018. During this time Kieran performed numerous large-scale on-site geotechnical undertakings aiding in the final design of tunnel portals, flood defence systems and slope stabilisation. This was achieved through a combination of ground investigation techniques including packer testing, geophysics and rock core logging. Kieran also has a first in his BSc (Hons) in Earth Science and a distinction in his MSc Engineering Geology from Newcastle University. The combination of university and industry exposure has resulted in Kieran acquiring knowledge in fields including geomechanics, hydrology, contaminated land, and geotechnical testing and design. Since joining Roberts Environmental, Kieran has gained experience in the preparation of Phase I Environmental Assessments, Phase II site investigations, Risk Assessments and Coal Mining Risk Assessments.

Lauren Manning

Biography Lauren is a Senior Consultant at Roberts Environmental and provides a range of experience within land contamination and human health risk assessment, including the production of Phase 1, Phase 2 and Remediation Method Statement reports, Remediation Verification and Validation, Ground Gas Risk Assessment and Environmental Due Diligence. Lauren has worked on Brownfield sites for a wide range of clients within the public and private sectors, having previously worked for 3e Consulting Engineers and Cundall Johnston and Partners. Lauren also has extensive experience conducting Agricultural Land Classification surveys and Waste Deployment applications within Greenfield settings during her work with Soil Environment Services. Lauren is a member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences (MIEnvSc) and the British Society of Soil Science (M.I. Soil Sci).

Leighton Pearson

Biography Leighton joined the Roberts Environmental team in September 2020 following 22 years of service in the Royal Air Force as a Vehicle Mechanic. During this time as a Maintenance Workshop Manager he developed a keen interest in environmental and sustainability issues that occur in the running of commercial and industrial environments. He undertook further training in Environmental Auditing, Environmental Law and Sustainable Development and the Implementation of Environmental Management Systems. Leighton is also qualified to the Institute of Occupation Safety and Health standard in Managing Safety and as a Health and Safety Risk Assessor. As the Operations Technician he is responsible for a variety tasks including the management of the workshop, equipment and supplies, supporting consultants in their site work and logistical planning of operations.

Matt Whittaker

Biography Matt joined Roberts Environmental as a Graduate Consultant in September 2021, following the completion of his studies at University, obtaining a First Class BSc (Hons) Geology degree from the University of Leicester and a MSc in Engineering Geology from Newcastle University. During his time at university Matt gained an understanding of the fundamentals of remediating contaminated land, geotechnical design, groundwater risk assessment and soil mechanics in addition to gaining valuable experience in the applied and environmental aspects of geology, with an understanding of environmental impacts and field mapping. Since joining Roberts Environmental, Matt has worked on the preparation of Phase I Environmental Assessments, Phase II Site Investigations and Coal Mining Risk Assessments, gaining valuable industry exposure to further compliment his strong academic background.

Mike Hay

Biography Mike Hay is a Director at Roberts Environmental Ltd and strengthens the experienced environmental consultancy structure of the business as well as providing geotechnical expertise. Mike has worked on a wide variety of complex projects delivering successful, cost effective outcomes in scenarios such as due diligence, site investigations, coal mining risk assessments, remediation and validation. Mike is highly experienced in working on an extensive scope of projects providing solutions for individual developments as well as integrating services between multiple subcontractors in delivering highly quality outcomes. Phoebe Sowerby

Biography Phoebe joined Roberts Environmental in October 2022 as a Graduate Sustainability Consultant, having completed an MSc in Climate Change at the University of East Anglia. During her studies she gained knowledge surrounding sustainability in connection with governance, policy, society and business. At Roberts Environmental Phoebe focusses on implementing our Sustainability Roadmap across all areas of the business, working with numerous stakeholders to drive alignment of current and future practices and ensure execution of this strategy. In addition, Phoebe assists in the development of pragmatic, technical solutions to enable Clients to make informed decisions and meet their Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) requirements.
