Andrew Gummer is a 2nd degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and owner of Method BJJ in Edmonton. He is passionate about BJJ, teaching, learning and bio-mechanics. Andrew's fun personality, his particular attention to detail, and his pursuit of excellence all serve to make him an exceptional instructor. Andrew has taught with Curtis Malin in the BJJ Program for 6 years and is the co-founder of the bully prevention program "Shift the Power."

Jason Wass

Jason graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Physical Education and Education. At the U of A he wrestled with the Golden Bears, he was a two-time national medalist and a part of three Conference Team Titles and one National Team Title during his five years with the team. He began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2010 during his time outside of the wrestling seasons. After retiring from competition in wrestling he began to train and compete more frequently in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2017 he competed in the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship earning a Bronze medal in his division. Jason is in his second year as one of the instructors with the BJJ Program and is currently running the BJJ Program with fellow coach Justin Sander at Vimy Ridge Academy (Grade 7-12)

Justin Sander

Justin Sander, owner of The Ludus Martial Arts Academy in Edmonton, is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) with over 10 years of combined experience in BJJ, Mixed Martial Arts, and Wrestling. He has competed in competitions all over North America including Ultimate Mat Warriors (under EBI rules), King of the Cage, and World Series of Fighting. Justin is in his 3rd year as one of the coaches for The BJJ Program and is currently running the BJJ Program with fellow coach Jason Wass at Vimy Ridge Academy (Grade 7-12)

Kevin Peters

Kevin Peters is the Sports Liaison at Donnan Elementary. This is his fifth year as an instructor with Donnan Hockey. This scholastic year he is also teaching Grade 6 Language Arts, Mathematics and Social Studies. Having grown up in Edmonton, Kevin played his minor hockey with South Side Athletic Club. Kevin went on to play at Augustana University in Camrose, Alberta on a hockey scholarship where he was voted Captain in his final year. There he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in History and Philosophy. He then went to the University of Alberta, where he received his Education degree. Kevin spent two years as the assistant coach for the Midget AAA South Side Athletics during the 1998-2000 seasons. Since then Kevin has returned to playing men's league 2-3 times a week, and spends most of his free time with his wife Erin and son Wesley.

Lara Ruppell

Lara has been teaching at Donnan School since 2007 where she originally started as a teacher in The Hockey Program. Lara joined the Sport Fit Program in 2011 and is currently the Program Director. She is excited to share her many passions in all aspects of a healthy life-style with her students and promote life-long active habits through her involvement with the Sport Fit Program here at Donnan! Lara is a University of Alberta graduate from the physical education/education program and was a member of the University of Alberta Pandas Women's Hockey Team, winning 4 National Championships in her 5 years. Lara is a Hockey Canada HP1 level certified coach and has been coaching female hockey for over 10 years including Team Alberta, Sherwood Park Midget AAA Fury, Edmonton Bantam AAA Lightening and currently, is the assistant coach of the Grant MacEwan University Women's Hockey Team. Lara is excited for the opportunity to explore many different sports and recreation activities with her students in Sport Fit. She has played many sports both recreationally and competitively since graduating from University as well, she returned to the U of A in 20016 to complete her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and competed in Canada West golf for the U of A during her Masters. Lara continues to play ice hockey, ball hockey, softball, golf and many other recreational activities in her free time.

Mitch Clarke

Mitch Clarke is a 1st degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Rodrigo Munduruca and is a retired professional Mixed Martial Artist and freestyle wrestler. Mitch has trained and competed all over North America and was trained in MMA under John Crouch, Benson Henderson at the MMA Lab and by Mike Winklejohn, Chad Smith, and Greg Jackson at JacksonWink Academy. Mitch has been a guest instructor with the BJJ Program for the past 6 years and this is his first year as a full-time instructor working with Mr. Malin at Donnan with the grade 3-6 students.

Scott Burke

Scott played his junior hockey for three and a half years in his home town of Castlegar, British Columbia where he was an assistant captain, league all-star and named most valuable player for his team. Scott then attended the University of Alberta and completed his Bachelor of Physical Education degree specializing in Sport Performance and Physical Activity. It was during his last semester that Scott was first introduced to Donnan/Vimy Hockey. He completed a four month practicum at Vimy Ridge Academy as part of Vimy Hockey instructional staff. This time in the program gave Scott the motivation to continue his studies and return to post-secondary school at Concordia University College of Alberta where he completed his Bachelor of Education degree to become a teacher. While completing his studies, Scott also played for the Concordia Thunder Men's Hockey Team in the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC). Scott is in his fifth year at Donnan and sixth year as a teacher with Edmonton Public Schools. In his spare time, Scott enjoys participating in sports such as baseball, golf and of course hockey. Scott spends most of his time away from Donnan with his daughter Emma and wife Katherine this who is also a teacher with Edmonton Public Schools.
