Adam Diels

Adam used to live in China. Upon his return he worked for almost twenty years as a sworn interpreter and translator for Dong Fang Yuan, a translation and interpreting agency before joining Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers. Because of his wealth of experience with China he is highly knowledgeable about Chinese source documents and legislation. Knowledge that is indispensable in his immigration law practice. Adam studied classical guitar at the Amsterdam School of the Arts and holds a degree in classical music in education. He went on to study sinology at Leiden University and at the University of Nanjing and Hangzhou in China. To top it off, he obtained a degree in law from VU University Amsterdam, specializing in administrative law. Adam is fluent in Dutch, Chinese/Mandarin and English.

Adinda van de Walle

Adinda joined Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers as a paralegal in September 2021. Adinda obtained a master's degree in Public International Law from Leiden University and a master's in Constitutional and Administrative Law from Utrecht University. In addition, she studied for five months at the Tsinghua University in Beijing where she completed courses in Chinese/Mandarin. During her studies, Adinda gained experience as a military working student in various legal and political departments within the Dutch ministry of Defense and worked as a legal assistant in the field of administrative law at a law firm. Furthermore, Adinda was associated with a think tank of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and she did an internship at a human rights organization in Amsterdam.

Anne Wijffelman

Anne joined Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers in January 2020. She is specialized in the family reunification procedure, for reunification with an (unmarried) partner, as well as with children and parents. She also deals with matters relating to short-stay visa, the civic integration exam and permanent residency. Moreover, she assists clients in procedures concerning the change of personal data in the Personal Records Database. Before Anne made her move to Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers, she gained extensive experience in the field of immigration law. Among others, she worked at a specialized law firm and at the Aliens Division of the Haarlem District Court. Furthermore, she worked at Defence for Children, where she advised on matters relating to migration and children's rights. Anne holds master's degrees in Public International Law and Cultural and Social Anthropology. She has published in international and national journals on the topic of family reunification.

Bram van Melle

Together with his team, Bram provides strategic immigration planning to multinational companies doing business in the Netherlands. He works closely with clients to help them achieve and maintain compliance with immigration laws and regulations. He is strongly committed to providing tailor-made counseling and a high level of service to clients. Most of his clients are foreign groups of companies with business locations in the Netherlands relocating managers, technical specialists or trainees. Bram also advises and litigates in cases where the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate has fined employers for the illegal employment of foreign nationals or the breach of other obligations that apply to the employment of foreign nationals. He currently heads the employer sanctions department of the firm. In the field of nationality law, Bram mainly advises clients abroad about retaining or acquiring Dutch citizenship by naturalization or by option. Bram publishes regularly and is currently an editor at Asiel&Migrantenrecht (A&MR), the leading law review in the field of immigration law. Furthermore, Bram has taught courses on Modern Migration Policy (MoMi) for OSR - Institute for Professional Legal Education and CPO, and currently teaches for Sdu on various topics of employment immigration. Carl Everaert - Founder

Co-founder Carl Everaert left the law practice on 1 January 2008. On the occasion of his departure, he was named Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix. This honour was bestowed upon him due to the special contribution that he and his office have made with the development of immigration law in the Netherlands. "A land without immigration becomes bland, boring and burned out," says Carl Everaert.

Danielle Snaathorst

Danielle joined Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers as a paralegal in February 2020. Prior to this position, she gained work experience in the field of labor migration. In addition to labor migration, she is also involved in family migration, permanent residence and nationality queries at Everaert Advocaten. Danielle studied law at Utrecht University. During her bachelor she completed a minor in Gender Studies. She also completed courses in German at Leipzig University. In 2017 she obtained a master's in Public International Law at Utrecht University. During her studies, she was a student assistant at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights. After her studies she interned at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal in Cambodia and at a human rights law firm in Amsterdam. She also worked at Utrecht University as a junior researcher, where she did research to evaluate the Dutch transgender law. Danielle is fluent in Dutch and English.

Gertjan van Andel

Gertjan has nearly 40 years of practice experience in the field of migration law. Before joining Everaert Advocaten as a partner in 1987, he worked for the Amsterdam law centre, where he helped initiate the provision of professional legal services to foreign nationals. He is now with our firm as of counsel. From the outset his focus has been on employment immigration. Gertjan counsels multinationals and smaller national and international companies on intra-company transfers and the relocation of their staff to the Netherlands, taking care of the required visas, residence and work permits. He also counsels migrants who wish to take up residence in the Netherlands as independent contractors. Gertjan is an experienced litigator with specific expertise in the refusal of applications for visas, residence or work permits, and penalties for illegal employment. For many years he has represented clients appealing against detention pending deportation. He believes in direct lines of communication and personal contact with both clients and officials, always with the goal of finding quick and effective solutions. Hans Jager - Founder

Hans left the law practice in January 2020. Hans has been a lawyer since 1980 and was one of the firm's co-founders. A specialist in family migration, Hans handled applications for residence permits for spouses, partners and children for more than 30 years. He was known as one of the most experienced lawyers in this area, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Besides his family migration practice Hans counseled people without a residence permit but in need of medical treatment in the Netherlands. His specific expertise in this area made Hans the go-to person for hospitals and other care institutions, medical specialists and patient organisations.

Hermie de Voer

Hermie is internationally renowned for her expertise in nationality law. She advises clients in the Netherlands and other countries on the specifics of Dutch nationality and acquiring Dutch citizenship by naturalisation, option or law. Hermie is an experienced litigator in this area. Hermie is a speaker at international conferences about nationality law. The media and politicians frequently ask her opinion on developments and legislative proposals in her area of expertise. She also writes for popular and professional journals. In addition, Hermie heads the Russia/CIS Desk, counselling companies from Russia and the other CIS states on residence procedures related to their operations in the Netherlands, such as intra-company transfers of key staff. Hermie was appointed a partner of Everaert Advocaten immigration Lawyers on 1 January 2015.

Kirsty Gies

Kirsty has been with Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers since 2006 and is currently the firm's Manager Global Mobility & Immigration. Together with Marcel Reurs and Bram van Melle she leads the department for corporate immigration in the Business Unit. Kirsty's clientele ranges from SMB's to multinationals, in a variety of industries. Kirsty has considerable expertise in overseeing the visa and residence permit application process for her clients, as well as coordinating the Business Unit's administrative support. She plays an important role in setting up, for instance, whole migration divisions for a client or preparing companies for government audits. Kirsty also provides in-house training sessions to personnel departments.

Lotte van Diepen

Before joining Everaert Advocaten Immigration Lawyers in 2019, Lotte worked in the administration of justice on cases in the field of immigration and asylum law, and (international) criminal law. She was also involved in Rule of Law projects in the former Yugoslavia, where she was deployed with the European Union. In her practice, Lotte specializes in matters related to family reunification, Article 8 of the ECHR (including cases on elderly persons) and EU law. Due to her expertise in the field of criminal law, she can advise and litigate on aspects of public order and employer sanctions as well. Lotte further assists migrant workers and self-employed persons, especially those in the creative industries (music and arts), as well as companies - including the Asian catering industry - who wish to hire foreign employees. Lotte completed a Master's degree in Public International Law with a minor in International Relations at the University of Amsterdam. Lotte speaks fluent Dutch and English.

Marcel Reurs

Marcel is a partner and brings over 24 years' experience across all immigration routes with a particular emphasis on employment-related and business-related categories, including but not limited to highly skilled migrant, intra-corporate transfer, European Blue Card, and the self-employed and investor categories. He has extensive experience in handling immigration aspects of mergers and acquisitions and other corporate restructuring, compliance with sponsor duties and service provision involving the posting of workers with customers in the EU. Marcel has been a partner since 2002 and is the current chair of the firm. He is an active member of the International Bar Association and an active international associate with the American Immigration Lawyers Association, where he is a member of the Global Migration Section's Steering Committee. He is a member of the Dutch specialist associations for immigration attorneys, SVMA and WRV. Marcel is an exclusive contributor to The Legal 500: Corporate Immigration Country Comparative Guide for the chapter on the Netherlands.

Muhyadin Mohamud

Muhyadin joined the firm in November 2019 as a paralegal, after he had been a student intern during his Constitutional and Administrative Law studies at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He assists our lawyers with, among others, family reunification cases.

Nikki Vreede

Nikki joined Everaert Immigration Lawyers in 2018 and is an expert in the field of immigration law. Nikki worked for several years as a clerk and paralegal at the court, before she made her move to Everaert Immigration Lawyers. At the court she focused mainly on immigration law, but she also possesses a solid knowledge of administrative procedural law and administrative penalty law. Nikki studied at the Vrije University in Amsterdam and McGill University in Montreal (Criminal Law and International and European Law). She is fluent in Dutch and English and sufficient in French and German.

Sofia Helbing

Sofia joined Everaert Advocaten as a paralegal in September 2021, having completed a student internship at the firm during her master's. At Everaert Advocaten, she mainly focuses on family and labour migration. In addition to that, she handles cases involving nationality law. Sofia studied Law with a specialization in Juvenile Law at the University of Amsterdam, Leiden University and the North-West University in South Africa. She wrote her Bachelor's thesis on immigration issues in Malaysia and during her master's she focused on the rights of children in the context of migration. Before starting her work at Everaert, she gained work experience at the Court of Amsterdam and gave out legal advice at the Kinder- en Jongerenrechtswinkel Amsterdam.

Ted Badoux - Founder

Ted left the law practice on 1 April 2018. A lawyer since 1977, Ted was one of the firm's founders in 1982. From 2001 until 1 July 2017, he was chairman of the partnership. With over 36 years' experience under his belt, Ted was a prominent lawyer in labour migration. He was in charge of the practice group handling applications for residence and employment permits, and in that capacity advised international groups of companies on the policy-related aspects of global mobility.

Thomas van Houwelingen

Thomas specializes in employment-based immigration. His application work includes work and residence permits for highly skilled workers as well as sponsor registration applications. He advises both large international companies and small businesses. He also deals with matters related to the right of residence of citizens of the EU, notably cases concerning family-based applications involving family members from outside the EU. He is also known for providing advice on complex international private law issues in cases of ancestry, nationality and naturalization. He is an editorial board member of the Journal on Immigration Law. Thomas studied both Law and French Language & Culture at Leiden University. Vera Kidjan

Vera became a partner at Everaert Advocaten in 2004. She has more than 20 years' experience with regular migration law and nationality law. Her clients include private individuals as well as corporate entities. Vera's specific expertise lies in international adoptions, descent and other issues of family law in which Dutch citizenship must be established. She is one of the few specialists in the Netherlands in this area. Vera chairs the America Desk. She has considerable expertise with residence permits under the Dutch-American Friendship Treaty.
