Gordon began his career as a private sector professional for over 16 years in information technology, finance and development with several banking institutions in Southern California - focusing on innovation with a strong bottom-line orientation to blending effectiveness with efficiency to getting the job done. This would prove to be an important foundation for an enormously rewarding 30-year career in the public sector. Most recently, Gordon has been providing organizational management and operational consultation, along with, assistance in creating successful development outcomes for local governments and private sectors concerns. Current and past clients include the cities of Inglewood and Salinas California and various private sector development entities. Gordon Anderson served as Interim Executive Director for the Westside Cities Council of Governments (Westside Cities COG), a joint powers authority created by the cities of Beverly Hills, Culver City, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles. The Westside Cities COG represents more than 750,000 residents and over 70,000 businesses in one of the most visited regions in the country. Gordon retired from the City of Santa Monica as assistant city manager where he served in a unique shared leadership role with the chief executive officer/city manager for Santa Monica, an organization of over 2200 employees with an annual operating budget in access of $540 million dollars and a capital improvements budget in access of $500 million. In addition, he provided leadership and oversight to all major development projects. He provided similar leadership, management, development project implementation and finance acumen from his many years serving in management roles in the cities of Hayward, San Pablo, and Pasadena. During his public sector career, Gordon also served on numerous boards and commissions. Gordon received his BA degree in Urban and Public Administration from Occidental College and his MBA degree from Saint Mary's College. He is also a graduate of the Executive Management Program at CaliforniaState University, Long Beach. He is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), having served twice as a member of the executive board; the National Forum for Black Public Administrators, having served as an officer in the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter; the International Hispanic Network, a charter member of the organization; and a past member of the Urban Land Institute.
