John's current activities involve monitoring machine utilization, energy consumption, and mechanical vibration, to detect cutting tool wear and breakage, protect machine tools from collision damage, assess overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and optimize industrial maintenance strategies. His past installations have used a number of different sensor technologies (mechanical vibration, acoustic emission, force, horsepower, temperature, or machine vision) to characterize machine tool function and cutting tool design / performance. John is often involved in on-site applications work, including system installation, commissioning, fine- tuning, troubleshooting, and customer training for these systems. John has also sold and provided after-sale support for machine-vision-based, dimensional measurement systems.
