THE MERKOS CORPORATION

Merkos is the entity which the Rebbe used to establish the network of Shluchim and Chabad Center around the world in addition to many other educational institutions including Bais Rivka Schools, Camp Gan Yisroel, Botei Sefer L'Melacha in Israel and many more. In the earlier years, Shluchim were sent out on their Shlichus with a formal credential from the Merkos attesting to their position. The main objective of the Shliach's mission was to establish a regional office of the Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch in their designated place of Shlichus... The Frierdike Rebbe founded the Merkos L'inyonei Chinuch in 1942, shortly after our Rebbe came to the United States, and appointed him as the Chairman of the executive committee. At the first recorded meeting of the Board of Trustees on October 7, 1942 the Rebbe made a motion, with the consent of the Frierdike Rebbe, that Kehos Publication Society, an already functioning organization, be incorporated into the Merkos.
