Cristiano S Moura

As a Senior Data Scientist at Medlior, Cristiano is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of methodologies and standard operating procedures for study designs, data management, and data analysis. He has over 15 years of experience conducting research investigations in the areas of pharmacoepidemiology, drug safety, and comparative effectiveness. Before joining Medlior, Cristiano was a Research Associate at the Centre for Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation, McGill University. There he supervised research projects, prepared feasibility assessments for drug effectiveness and safety studies, designed protocols and analytical plans, and conducted statistical analyses using large administrative datasets (MarketScan, RAMQ, IC/ES, PopData BC, and CIHI). He also wrote reports, conference abstracts, and scientific manuscripts. Cristiano earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, a Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences degree, and a PhD in Epidemiology from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil. His post-doctoral research was in pharmacoepidemiology at McGill University.

Dr. Michelle Orme

Dr. Michelle Orme has 17 years? experience in health outcomes research and ten years industry experience of systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Michelle specializes in data analysis including direct, indirect and mixed treatment comparison/network meta-analysis, and critical appraisal of cost-effectiveness models and meta-analysis. She has conducted and consulted on Bayesian mixed treatment comparisons using WinBUGs in many disease areas, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, actinic keratosis, stroke prevention, dementia, primary open angle glaucoma, ocular hypertension, smoking cessation, venous thromboembolism, and renal cell carcinoma.?iceraconsulting.co.uk

Eileen Shaw

Job Titles:

As a Principal at Medlior, Eileen oversees Real World Evidence and Evidence Synthesis projects, where she uses her expertise in research methodologies to deliver complex evidence generation initiatives for both public and private sector organizations. Eileen brings to Medlior a background in epidemiological methods, data analysis, and strong writing skills. Most recently, Eileen worked as an Epidemiology Research Associate in the Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research at Alberta Health Services. Eileen's academic background includes molecular biology, having completed a Master's in Experimental Medicine at McGill University and conducting research on HIV and the innate immune system. Subsequently, Eileen completed a Master's degree in Epidemiology at McGill University, where her research focused on cancer epidemiology.

Heather Neilson

  • MEDICAL WRITING MANAGER
As a Medical Writing Manager at Medlior, Heather is responsible for managing and developing a variety of writing products including research protocols, reports, abstracts, posters and manuscripts. Prior to working at Medlior, Heather earned an Essential Skills certificate in medical writing from the American Medical Writers Association and co-authored over 30 publications in the scientific literature, as well as book chapters and grant proposals. Most recently, Heather worked for 4 years with the Canadian Medical Protective Association writing articles on safe medical care for clinical journals and CMPA Perspective, a trade magazine for physicians. Previously, she was employed for 14 years as a Research Associate with Alberta Health Services in the Department of Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Research, and for 2 years as an Assistant Chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. Heather holds a Master of Science degree in Occupational and Environmental Health from the University of Toronto; a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Toxicology from the University of Guelph; and a Graduate Diploma in Health: Science, Technology and Policy from Carleton University.

J.Paul Ekwaru

As a Biostatistics Lead at Medlior, Paul brings expertise in both biostatistics and epidemiology to all his client projects. His experience is wide-ranging, as he had used various statistical and epidemiological methods in clinical, public health, and health economic evaluation studies across a wide range of therapeutic areas. His previous roles include positions as a Biostatistician at the University of Alberta, Statistician at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Lecturer/Biostatistician at Makerere University, and a consultant on a number of research projects by both academic and non-academic institutions. Paul has co-authored over 70 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including statistical methods publications, and was the recipient of the International Statistical Institute Jan Tinbergen Award for his work in deriving an approximation for the Rank Adjacency Statistic (D) for analyzing spatial clustering with sparse data. Paul obtained his Bachelor of Statistics degree from Makerere University, MSc from McMaster University, and Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of California at Berkeley.

Jane Heseltine

Jane has been with MED LIOR since 2018. As the Finance Manager, she is responsible for the financial operations within the company (accounts receivable, accounts payable, month-end reporting, payroll). Jane brings with her many years of diverse experience. During her career, she has worked as an accounts payable supervisor for a medium-sized oil & gas company, a bookkeeper and office manager for a small accounting practice, and a general accountant for an investment company with over $1 billion under management. Jane holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick.

Jody Filkowski

Job Titles:
  • RESEARCH MANAGER
Jody has over 20 years of research experience, from internationally renowned organizations like the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Switzerland to Canadian biotech start-ups. As a researcher, she has made novel discoveries and acquired intricate knowledge in several areas, including epigenetics, oncology, radiation biology, mammalian gene control, plant immunity, and agronomics. Alongside all of this, Jody has authored two book chapters and over 20 peer-reviewed articles. Her career path has afforded her significant experience with the alignment of innovation and applied research to the practical constraints of industry. This has equipped Jody with a balanced perspective that recognizes the value of empirical data, translation of knowledge, and evidence-based decision making, all within the regulatory framework of the biomedical industry. Jody obtained her BSc in Biochemistry, MSc in Biology, and PhD in Biomolecular Sciences from the University of Lethbridge.

Kate Brown

In her role as a Research Associate at Medlior, Kate supports Real-World Evidence projects by contributing to systematic literature reviews and medical writing. Through her decade of experience in research, Kate has developed expertise in literature reviews, quantitative research methods, study design, and scientific writing. Before joining Medlior, Kate worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo and University College London in neuroscience and neurology. Kate received her PhD from the University of British Columbia in Rehabilitation Sciences.

Michelle Mayer

As a Research Associate, Michelle supports Real-World Evidence and Evidence Synthesis projects. Michelle has a multidisciplinary research background in oncology, kinesiology, and orthopaedic surgery, with experience in research study design, patient survey development, literature reviews, and medical writing. Before joining Medlior, Michelle worked as an Orthopaedic Clinical Research Assistant at the University of Calgary Sport Medicine Centre. Michelle completed her MSc in Medical Science at the University of Toronto, studying novel therapeutic agents for advanced stage prostate cancer, and received her BSc (Hons.) in Kinesiology from McGill University.

Phong Manivong

As a Senior Data Scientist at Medlior, Phong is responsible for supporting the development of and implementing methodologies and standard operating procedures to produce robust and consistent study design, data management, and data analysis. Phong has over 15 years of experience in providing his expertise in both statistics and epidemiology in the public sector, the majority being in health. Phong has extensive experience as a SAS programmer (including macros and SQL) and manipulating large health administrative datasets that span the entire continuum of care. His previous roles include positions as a Performance Reporting and Measurement Methodologist at CorHealth Ontario (Ontario Health) which monitors the cardiovascular and stroke systems in Ontario, Senior Analyst & Research Associate at Cancer Care Ontario (Ontario Health) which monitors the cancer system in Ontario, and Data Analyst at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. Phong obtained his BSc and MSc in Statistics from the University of Manitoba, and PhD in Epidemiology from McGill University.

Stephanie Gloyn

As a Research Manager at Medlior, Stephanie brings over 14 years of experience leading complex research and system transformation projects to generate and apply evidence to transform patient care and health systems. Before joining Medlior, Stephanie worked at Interior Health in Kelowna, B.C, where she developed a new framework for providing an integrated substance use system and led the COVID-19 recovery planning. She also has experience leading regional initiatives to increase the quality and connectivity of mental health services. Stephanie completed her MSc in Health Systems Research at the University of Edinburgh. She also holds an MBA from Queen's University, Kingston, a BSc from British Columbia, and certifications in Knowledge Translation, Implementation Science, Big Data Analytics and Digital Health Strategy.

Suzanne McMullen

As a Senior Principal, Suzanne leads Medlior's Real World Evidence services, as well as a number of Evidence Synthesis projects. Her research experience in both commercial and public sector organizations provides insightful project strategy and effective team management. Prior to joining Medlior, Suzanne gained over ten years of experience with ICON Plc (previously Oxford Outcomes) with career progression from an Associate Epidemiologist to Principal of Epidemiology. Previous roles also included Program Assistant at Vancouver Coastal Health and Research Assistant at the Centre for High-Throughput Biology. Suzanne's in-depth understanding of research study designs, leadership and client management, Canadian and global health care systems, and diverse therapeutic areas, is applied to all of her projects. Suzanne obtained a BSc from the University of British Columbia, with a neuroscience major. She went on to obtain a Masters in Health Administration from the University of British Columbia, where she developed a novel assessment tool for patient intake at Vancouver Coastal Health mental health teams.

Tara Cowling - President

Tara founded Medlior Health Outcomes Research Ltd. in 2008 with a priority for providing value and insight to health outcomes research projects through robust methodology. Tara has over 17 years of health outcomes research experience in both public sector and industry. Prior roles include five years with Alberta Health Services as the Lead of Clinical Data Services and five years in HTA/Market Access for AstraZeneca UK, Wyeth UK and IQVIA UK. In addition, Tara gained experience as a Research Fellow for Clinical Guidelines in Chronic Conditions at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in London, UK. Tara obtained her MSc from McMaster University in the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neuroscience and Psychiatry where she was awarded the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council - Graduate Scholarship. Prior to this Tara gained her BA and MA in Physiological Sciences from Balliol College at The University of Oxford. Tara is a member of the Women's President's Organization (WPO), Healthcare Businesswomen's Organization (HBA), Women's Executive Network (WXN), The Executive Committee (TEC), the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), working group member of the Network of Alberta Health Economists (NOAHE), and the Canadian Association for Healthcare Reimbursement (CAHR).

Tram Pham

As a Research Manager, Tram supports the breadth of Medlior's service offerings. She has managed a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research projects in various disease areas, from chronic diseases to mental health. Tram has a background in epidemiology, with experience in data analysis, literature review, and medical writing. Prior to joining Medlior, Tram worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. Tram received her Master of Public Health from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) from the University of Calgary.

Whitney Longstaff

Job Titles:
  • VICE PRESIDENT - OPERATIONS
As the Vice President of Operations, Whitney is responsible for overseeing Medlior's organizational structure, business operations, and key aspects of project operations. Whitney previously led Medlior's Health Technology Assessment (HTA) services, as well as a number of Evidence Synthesis projects. Whitney has over fifteen years of health outcomes research experience. She has worked in HTA and Market Access roles across the UK and Ireland, including as National Health Economics Lead for Daiichi Sankyo UK & Ireland, and as the HTA Team Leader for Pfizer UK's Oncology portfolio. In these roles, she oversaw the development, adaptation and implementation of value propositions, local market access initiatives, and data generation projects to meet customer needs and achieve commercial targets. Prior to working in the pharmaceutical industry, Whitney worked as a Technical Lead in the Technology Appraisals team at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK. As a Chancellor's Scholar, Whitney obtained a BHSc (Hons.) from the University of Calgary. She went on to obtain an MSc. in International Health Policy from the London School of Economics & Political Science, where her dissertation focused on modelling infectious disease in economic evaluation.
