SCIO

Scio is a private firm (limited-liability company) that is not dependent on either the state or subsidies. It currently has approximately 60 employees and several hundred external collaborators... Scio was established by Ondřej Šteffl in 1995. The company began as a start-up with two people and the objective of formulating professional tests for acceptance exams, which were common in the United States but virtually unheard of in the Czech Republic. Despite the conservative and reserved approach of many schools, they slowly began to realise that educational measurement is a distinct field with its own professional standards. One of the initial innovations was the test of general adademic prerequisites... However, education is not confined only to schools. We learn everywhere, all the time. Therefore, we are continuing to work on projects focused on parallel education, which takes place outside of school and enables parents to actively contribute to their children's development.
