Dr. Monica M. Weller

Monica, or "Miss Monica" as her students refer to her, received her Occupational Therapy Doctorate at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, her Master's degree in Occupational Therapy at Tufts University in Boston, and her B.S in Psychology at Virginia Wesleyan College. She has a strong background in the early intervention, preschool and elementary education population in the home, clinic and school setting. During her 20 years of practice, she has developed specialization in neuro-cognitive and behavioral issues, as well as the refinement of motor skills for overall academic success. Monica has had extensive training in sensory integration, and her office includes a therapy gym with a swing and a rock wall to promote optimal sensory functioning. In addition to these skills, she is a trained and certified provider for the Interactive Metronome, Fast ForWord, REI (Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention), and as a stability ball trainer to develop proximal or core stability and strength. Before opening her own practice, Monica worked at Bethesda Hospital and as the occupational therapy department manager and supervisor at Easter Seals in Fort Lauderdale. She has also worked as a therapist, educator and consultant over the past ten years in several charter schools in Palm Beach and Broward county, as well as private schools like B'Nai Torah, B'Nai Isreal, North Broward, and Pine Crest Preparatory School. Monica also offers several services in the area of social-emotional development. She runs social skills groups that focus on communication skills, peer relationships, play skills, and problem solving. During the summer, she offers a camp designed to promote and practice social interaction, play skills, and training in executive functions, i.e. organization, problem solving, independence and attention. Monica continues to serve as a consultant to many schools in the area, and she provides parent training and "whole child" screenings to plan for short and long-term success at home, school and in the community. Monica's unique and effective therapeutic style has been developed from various theories, approaches, and her own clinical experiences. She assesses all component areas necessary for improvement and success and develops a therapeutic plan that truly addresses and treats "the whole child." In addition, Monica specializes in, but is not limited to, children within the Autistic Spectrum, and those with Asperger's Syndrome or learning disabilities.
