Prior to opening Union Jack Motorcycles, Phil was an employee of the well-known Melbourne british bike dealer Frank Mussett, and on Mussett's closure, Phil aquired all the Triumph stock of spares.

In the 1970s Phil Pilgrim was employed as head mechanic for the largest Victorian Triumph dealer; Frank Musset, located in Brunswick, Melbourne. When Frank Mussetts closed their doors for the last time Phil made the offer to purchase the entire stock of Triumph spares. The deal was done and Union Jack Motorcycles was established 1980.
Within a short time Union Jack Motorcycles became the official Les Harris agent for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. During the next twenty-five years Union Jack Motorcycles were agents for the many brands.
