Annie Jarvis

Annie joined Cause4 in December 2016 as Development Coordinator and is now Head of Development. Prior to joining Cause4, Annie worked in a freelance capacity as a Social Media Manager and Writer, working for a number of companies both within the UK and abroad, focusing on their external communications. Annie previously worked for the mental health charity, Mind, where she leveraged funds from Trusts and Foundations and community fundraising initiatives. Annie's previous experience in the charity sector also includes writing successful bid proposals; developing and implementing fundraising strategies and major donor engagement plans; and building relationships with corporate partners and individuals. Annie has led on business planning, fundraising and strategic support for a number of organisations and is responsible for managing the Trustee Leadership Programme, leading on the corporate and individual sales of the programme by working with partners across the UK. Annie also leads on Cause4‘s in-house work with clients, working directly with other teams to bring out the best results and ensure a positive working relationship, and is a passionate trainer, delivering training across a range of areas including fundraising, social media, marketing and communications.

David Burgess

As Director of Apollo Fundraising David specialises in helping arts and culture organisations to improve their fundraising. David has been fundraising for the arts and culture sector for ten years. In this time, he has raised support for a range of organisations, including the Royal Pavilion & Museums (Brighton), English Touring Opera, Glyndebourne and the Royal Exchange Theatre. David moved into consultancy in February 2015, initially with the Management Centre, before founding Apollo Fundraising in Spring 2016. In 2016 David was named as one of the UK's "Top 25 Fundraisers under 35" by Civil Society's Fundraising Magazine.

David Johnson

David Johnson joined Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy in March 2018 as Head of Programme, to help grow and deliver the programme as it moved into the Arts Council England funded National Portfolio as a sector support organisation. In 2020, he was made Director of Strategy and Programmes at Cause4, incorporating the Heritage Compass programme and other publicly funded work for the organisation. In this role, David has worked with organisations across the UK, including Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (TWAM), South West Museum Development, and the West Midlands and East Anglia Local Cultural Education Partnerships. David joined us in from the Albany, an arts centre and social enterprise in Deptford, London, where he was Head of Development and from 2011 was responsible for earned and raised income generation, partnership development and contract management for the organisation. During his tenure the Albany more than doubled its turnover. Prior to this, he worked in the Cultural Development team for the London Borough of Hackney, supporting the development of 2012 Cultural Olympiad projects and producing the borough's key youth arts festival, Discover Young Hackney; and as Company Manager for outdoor arts organisation, Emergency Exit Arts. David is a Fellow of the RSA, sits on the Board of Babylon Arts in Ely and is a Non-Executive Director of West Midlands company, Powered by CAN. He sits on the Fenland Cultural Strategy Cultural Steering Group and and is a full member of the Institute of Directors.

Deanna Rodger

Deanna is a writer, performer, and facilitator. Deanna was the face of Black British poetry in ITV's 2020 Black History Month TV campaign and wrote the 2020 Black History Month poem for BBC Sport. A former UK Poetry Slam Champion and the 2018 recipient of the Kevin Elyot award at University of Bristol's theatre collection, Deanna has garnered titles such as Elle UK's ‘30 inspirational women under 30', the Female Lead's ‘20 in their 20's, and Cosmopolitan's no.1 trailblazing woman, as well as winning a rising star award from the Hospital Club. Internationally, Deanna has toured her poetry in over 15 different countries including Beirut, Canada, Mexico, and South Africa. She teaches the Writing Poetry for Performance module with Benjamin Zephaniah at Brunel University, Poetry and Public Engagement module at UWE, and tutors at School of Communication Arts (‘the most successful ad school in the world'). Her collection of performance poems ‘I did it too' is out now

Deborah Larwood

Deborah is Head of Development at Opera North and has over eight years' experience in arts fundraising, in both London and Yorkshire. Previous roles include Director of Development at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Fundraising Manager at Sheffield Theatres. Deborah is also Vice Chair of Harrogate Theatre.

Faye Clews

Faye is an Independent Fundraising Consultant based in Oxfordshire and has spent the last 16 years working with Charitable Organisations. She is also an Associate Consultant at Development Partners, working with heritage, arts and educational organisations. Prior to that, Faye worked at The Prince's Regeneration Trust and The Institute of Cancer Research, University of London.

Fern Potter

Fern Potter has been mentoring and advising colleagues in the arts for many years, both as a regular trainer for Arts Council England and as a lecturer in Fundraising for the Cultural Sector at City, University of London (MA Arts Management). Fern is currently Director of Development with New English Ballet Theatre and has worked as Director of Development (Dance UK), Head of Development (Dance Umbrella), Senior Development Manager (Index on Censorship), and was founding Director of Essexdance. Fern has provided consultancy for Barbican, The Place, and Orlando Ballet, among others and holds a MA Arts Management from City University, London. Fern is a full member of the Institute of Fundraisers.

Helen Jenkins

Helen Jenkins has worked in fundraising for longer than she cares to remember, but is prepared to admit to over 20 years. In her early career Helen specialised in events for charities, organising overseas challenges and large events. She then worked abroad with VSO, an experience which changed her life. Helen has specialised in the arts for the last 10 years, working across all fundraising disciplines, in senior management roles and at Board level. Helen is now a consultant at 117 Consulting and prides herself on continuing to be hands on as well as providing strategic advice and support.

Howard Lake

Howard Lake is a digital fundraising entrepreneur. He publishes UK Fundraising (fundraising.co.uk), the news and community site for professional fundraisers. Having worked as a fundraiser at Oxfam, Afghanaid and Amnesty International UK in the 80s and 90s, he wrote the world's first book on digital fundraising in 1996. Elected a Fellow of the Institute of Fundraising for his digital work, he is Chair of the judging panel for the National Fundraising Awards. He has trained thousands of fundraisers in digital fundraising, and is a trainer for the Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy programme, and on the Chartered Institute of Fundraising Academy. He is a co-founder of Barcamp Nonprofits, founder of Fundraising Camp, the unconference-style learning event for fundraisers, and a co-founder of GoodJobs, the social enterprise jobs board and professional development platform.

Jo Breeze

She has helped creators raise hundreds of thousands of pounds since 2013, supporting their film-making, music, festivals, writing, arts projects, even political activism. Lucy Pratt

Lucy joined Cause4 as Programmes and Development Coordinator with over 4 years experience in the visual arts sector - working most previously at The Shirley Sherwood Collection (The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) as Digital Marketing Manager, delivering print and digital content to a global audience. Elsewhere, she has worked in arts research and administration for Artelier Arts Consultancy and as a Creative Producer for Creative Youth Network, supporting the realisation of youth engagement projects. Prior to this, she gained a First Class honours degree in Liberal Arts from The University of Bristol. Lucy acts as a Young Ambassador for The Royal West of England Academy, Young Advisor for Visual Arts South West and Young Advisory Board Member for Creative Youth Network. She has a vested interest in access and inclusivity in the creative sector, and this informs many of her professional goals.

Matt Carwardine-Palmer

Matt Carwardine-Palmer is a marketing and business consultant with 25 years' experience working mainly in the cultural sector. He started his career as Marketing Manager with Arts Marketing Hampshire and then gained senior management experience as Head of Marketing | Marketing Director at HST Theatres, and then as Head of Marketing at Bristol Old Vic before becoming self-employed in late 2006. He worked with Cause4 on the Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy programme between 2014-16 before joining Welsh National Opera as Director of Marketing and Sales. Matt returned to self-employment in 2021, and is working with arts and heritage organisations across the UK. He holds a First Class Honours degree in Arts Management and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Michelle Wright

Michelle trained at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and played the violin professionally. Michelle founded Cause4 after leaving the London Symphony Orchestra, where her achievements in private sector fundraising led to her being judged the Best Upcoming Fundraiser at the National Fundraising Awards in 2008. Since setting up Cause4 Michelle has undertaken major strategic and business development projects, including campaign developments with a number of national charities and consultancy work for FTSE 100 brands developing their cultural sponsorship programmes. Michelle also specialises in philanthropy, having recently developed a number of major philanthropy projects for charities and corporates, and having set up new philanthropic foundations for sports stars, artists and entrepreneurs. In 2010 Michelle completed her studies as part of the MBA programme at Ashridge Business School and in early 2011 Michelle was awarded a prestigious social enterprise scholarship from Coutts to study at Cranfield School of Management on the renowned Business Growth and Development Programme. Further funding from Goldman Sachs in 2012 enabled study at University College London as part of the 10,000 small businesses programme and at Said Business School at Oxford University in 2013. Michelle is a Fellow of the Guildhall School (FGS) and of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). She is particularly passionate about mentoring emerging entrepreneurs and has supported the growth of several new businesses in the field of creative entrepreneurship as part of a partnership with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Michelle was the winner of the female entrepreneur category in the national Natwest Startup awards 2011. In 2013 Michelle was invited by Lord Young of Graffham to become an Accelerate 250 member for small businesses showing rapid growth and was recommended by a panel of independent investors to be part of the Silicon Valley 100 list for businesses showing high potential. In 2014 Michelle was the first entrepreneur in the UK to receive the IWEC award for outstanding entrepreneurial achievement and represented the UK as a National Champion for Entrepreneur of the Year in the European Business Awards. In 2016 she was recognised with an Innovative Trailblazer award for entrepreneurship at the Women's Economic Forum in New Delhi and the Woman of the Year Award at the Women's World Award in San Francisco, for her work supporting other female entrepreneurs. She was awarded the Freedom of the Guild of Entrepreneurs in 2016. Cause4 received a Gold Award in 2020 for the best non-profit response during Covid-19 for the company's pro bono support for charities during Covid-19.
