Charlie Maddock - Founder, President

Charlie Maddock is the Director of Business Development at Shapeways, the world's largest 3D printing community and marketplace. In his role Charlie is responsible for the company's strategic partnerships surrounding revenue and traffic. The startup harnesses 3D printing to help anyone make and share their designs with the world, making product design more accessible, personal, and inspiring. Shapeways prints everything on-demand, which means that every order is customized and personalized. By providing a platform for community members to gain access to cutting edge 3D printing technology , Shapeways is democratizing creation for everyone. Prior to Shapeways Charlie worked in Investment Management at Fidelity Investments and later at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Charlie holds an A.B. in History from Brown University. He is the Founder and President of the Charles Maddock Foundation, a 501c3 public charity he started after suffering and fully recovering from a severe traumatic brain injury during which he spent 2 weeks in a coma and 7 months in the hospital. Charles founded the organization with his neurosurgeon Dr. Howard Riina, who over the years has become one of his closest friends.

Dr. Howard A. Riina

Dr. Howard A. Riina received his B.S.E. in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in Biology from Franklin and Marshall College. Dr, Riina then received a Master of Philosophy in Molecular Neurobiology from Cambridge University before receiving his MD from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Riina then completed his General Surgical internship and Neurosurgical training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. During this neurosurgical program, he completed fellowships in Diagnostic Neuroradiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Endovascular-Interventional Neuroradiology at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery of Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Riina completed a fellowship in Cerebrovascular/Skull Base Surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. Dr Riina has lectured and published extensively regarding intracranial aneurysms and vascular malformations of the brain and spine. Dr. Riina is one of a few nationally recognized individuals who performs both open micro-cerebrovascular neurosurgery as well as interventional neuroradiology.

Dr. Roger Hartl

Dr. Roger Hartl is a Medical graduate from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. He completed his Neurosurgery residency at Weill Cornell Medical College. After finishing a Fellowship in complex spine surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, he re-joined the Department of Neurosurgery at Weill Cornell Medical College as an Attending Surgeon. Dr. Hartl believes that surgery should be part of a multidisciplinary approach to disease processes. He works very closely with other specialists such as Neurologists, pain specialists and physical therapists in order achieve the best possible results for his patients. Dr. Hartl has lectured and published extensively on the surgical treatment of spine disorders and traumatic brain and spinal cord injury.

Jim Zimmerman

Jim Zimmerman is Chief Evangelist Officer of EverTrue, a leading provider of mobile alumni networking platforms for schools, colleges and universities. EverTrue works with nearly 200 institutions, including Amherst College, Brown University, Boston University, Pomona College, Virginia Military Institute, Phillips Exeter Academy, Choate Rosemary Hall, and St. Mark's School of Texas. He is a graduate of Bucknell University and was formerly President of the Bucknell University Alumni Association, a Trustee of Bucknell University, and President of the Carlisle (MA) Education Foundation. Jim served for 32 years as one of the most successful independent school fundraisers, having raised more than $300 million for schools nationwide. For 19 years, he served as Director of Development at Middlesex School where he led that institution's centennial celebration and successfully managed what was at the time the largest independent school campaign in history ($127 million). He has also held leadership advancement roles at The Lawrenceville School (NJ), Cate School (CA), and Francis Parker School (CA). Jim is also Principal of Coughlin-Zimmerman Associates and has served as a fundraising consultant and trusted advisor to schools and other nonprofit organizations. Jim lives with his family in San Diego, California.

Jonathan Meachin - Treasurer

Keu Zafar - Chairman

Keu Zafar is CEO and co-founder of eSupply Systems, running the company's day-to-day operations. Keu started his career at Morgan Stanley after graduating from university. Following Morgan Stanley, he was the co-founder of Gulfstream Assets, an equity day-trading firm in West Palm Beach, Florida, which was later sold to Tradescape, a subsidiary of E*Trade. Keu spent several years as director of finance and director of operations at Publicolor, Inc., a New York City-based youth development not-for-profit that has a multi-year program continuum that uniquely engages disaffected students in their education; empowering them through commercial painting and an applied learning model to transform institutional-looking schools into bright, welcoming student-centric environments. Keu has proven competence in the organization, growth and oversight of startup and non-profit companies and has extensive experience in the supervision of operations, finance, account management and customer service. Keu has a B.B.A. in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of Besthomes Holdings, Inc., a developer of pre-fabricated affordable housing, and Rotani, Inc., a wireless technology solution patent holding company. Keu is a founding board member of the Charles Maddock Foundation.

Mark Burnett

Dr. Burnett was born and raised in the Baltimore and Annapolis areas. After finishing his undergraduate degree at Yale University he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study international healthcare policy. He completed his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1998 and his residency training in neurosurgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. Following the completion of his residency, Dr. Burnett completed a fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona . Dr. Burnett joined Maryland Brain and Spine in 2006. Dr. Burnett's interests include complex and minimally-invasive spinal surgery, spinal sports medicine, neurotrauma, and peripheral nerve surgery. He has been awarded two research grants from the National Institutes of Health for his work on cerebrovascular physiology and the development of non-invasive blood flow monitors to treat patients with brain and spinal injuries. He has authored more than twenty peer reviewed manuscripts and multiple book chapters. Dr. Burnett continues to research and publish clinical outcomes and decision analysis studies relating to neurosurgical procedures and treatment pathways.

Michael Gilbane

Mike Gilbane is a Vice President with Related. He joined the firm in 2006 and has been actively involved in the acquisition, financing, entitlement, design, leasing, construction, refinancing, and disposition of Related properties across a diverse array of internal and external platforms. Mike holds a BSE in Civil Engineering from Princeton University and, prior to joining Related, worked as an operations specialist within Vice President Richard B. Cheney's election team and as an engineer with TDX Construction Corporation.

Nick Theodore

Nicholas Theodore, MD, graduated from Cornell University, where he was the recipient of a Cornell Tradition Academic Fellowship. He attended medical school at Georgetown University, where he graduated with honors. After completing his internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Dr. Theodore served as a Senior General Medical Officer with the United States Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan. Dr. Theodore completed his neurosurgical residency and fellowship in spinal surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute. He is the author of numerous scientific publications and the recipient of many research awards including a prestigious RO-1 grant awarded by the National Institutes of Health. After completing his residency in 2001, Dr. Theodore served as Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Naval Medical Center San Diego, overseeing the largest neurosurgery complement in the Navy. In 2003, he rejoined the faculty at Barrow Neurological Institute, and assumed the position of Director of Neurotrauma. In 2004, he was appointed Associate Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the Barrow Neurological Institute. The Residency Program is the largest in the United States and is currently training four residents per year group. His area of focus includes brain and spinal cord injury, minimally invasive surgery, and robotics. Dr. Theodore is a Diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgery

William T Curry

Following completion of residency in 2004, Dr. William Curry joined the neurosurgical staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. As a member of the Pappas Center for Neuro-oncology, he specializes in the surgical treatment of brain and spinal cord tumors, both malignant and benign. His academic interests center around brain tumor immunology, and he is developing a translational research program around clinical immunotherapy trials for patients with malignant gliomas. Dr. Curry was born in New York, NY and studied as an undergraduate at Harvard University. He graduated from Cornell University Medical College in 1997.
