In 1983 members of the Junior League of Longview, employees of the Longview Cancer Center and Good Shepherd Medical Center and other concerned individuals from the community banded together to investigate the need for hospice services for the terminally ill in Longview and the surrounding area. With a start-up grant from the Junior League and many hours of work by committed volunteers, Hospice Longview, Inc. was founded in 1984 as an independent, non-profit, community based hospice which is governed by a board of community leaders and health care professionals.
