CHARLES J. CHULACK is a partner with the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his work is devoted exclusively to advising hospitals and physician leaders on a wide range of topics, including medical staff issues, medical staff bylaws and associated documents, compliance with federal and state law and regulations and accreditation standards, and employment matters. In addition, he represents hospitals in litigation on topics such as contractual disputes, physician hearing and appeal rights, and immunity under state and federal law. Mr. Chulack is currently a faculty member for the HortySpringer seminar The Peer Review Clinic and was previously a faculty member for Credentialing for Excellence. He frequently provides individualized on-site and virtual educational programs on credentialing, privileging, peer review, professionalism, practitioner health, investigations, and other medical staff topics for hospitals and medical staffs across the country. He has done numerous presentations for legal organizations including the American Health Law Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Mr. Chulack is an editor of the firm's Health Law Express, a weekly e-newsletter on the latest health law developments. Mr. Chulack also served as an editor for the fourth and fifth editions of the American Health Law Association Peer Review Guidebook and the first edition of the American Health Law Association The Complete Medical Staff, Peer Review, and Hearing Guidebook. He has published articles in Bloomberg's Health Law Reporter, Duquesne Law Review, and Allegheny County Bar Association's Lawyer's Journal. DAN MULHOLLAND

DAN MULHOLLAND is a senior partner in the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also an editor of the Health Law Express, a weekly e-newsletter on health law developments, and a speaker at HortySpringer seminars, podcasts and audio conferences. Dan has spoken and written extensively concerning a wide variety of health law topics. He regularly advises clients on hospital medical staff, corporate, tax, fraud and abuse, and compliance matters, and reviews, prepares and negotiates all manner of contracts between hospitals, physicians, managed care organizations and vendors. He also serves as trial and appellate counsel in False Claims Act, antitrust, tax exemption, contract, medical staff and peer review litigation. In addition, Dan regularly provides strategic counseling to hospital and health system boards and management, as well as transactional services regarding mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and affiliations. HENRY M. CASALE

HENRY M. CASALE is a partner with the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was a licensed pharmacist. He is a frequent editor of the Health Law Express, a weekly e-newsletter on health law developments and, with Hala Mouzaffar, presents The Kickback Chronicles on the firm's Health Law Expressions podcast. He is an adjunct professor in the Carnegie Mellon University Master of Medical Management for Physicians Program, and has also served on the faculty of seminars sponsored by the firm, as well as meetings and seminars sponsored by numerous hospital, managed care, legal and physician organizations, including the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and the American Health Lawyers Association. Mr. Casale has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers. He also co‑authored, with Eric W. Springer, Hospitals and the Disruptive Health Care Practitioner: Is the Inability to Work With Others Enough to Warrant Exclusion?, 24 Duq. L.R.377 (1985). LAUREN M. MASSUCCI is a partner with the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She works extensively with hospitals and their medical staffs in addressing a broad range of medical staff issues relating to practitioner credentialing, behavior, health and competence. She also assists them with peer review investigations, hearings, the development of medical staff governance documents and other related policies, and regulatory and compliance issues. LeeAnne M. Mitchell

LEEANNE M. MITCHELL is a partner with the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has worked extensively on medical staff matters, including working with hospitals and their medical staffs on the development of new Medical Staff Bylaws, credentials policies, and other medical staff related policies and procedures, advising on practitioner-specific credentialing, privileging, and peer review matters, and working with medical staff leaders involved in formal investigations and medical staff due process hearings. She also works with hospitals on matters related to institutional review boards and research-related compliance issues. She has served as a faculty member on the HortySpringer seminars Strategies for Managing Physician Health and Disruptive Conduct, The Credentialing Clinic, and, along with Rachel Remaley, she currently leads The Complete Course for Medical Staff Leaders. LeeAnne earned her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. While in law school, she also completed the coursework toward a master's degree in bioethics and was the recipient of the CALI Award for Excellence in Health Care Fraud and Abuse. LeeAnne has served as a Community Member of the University of Pittsburgh Institutional Review Board since 2000 and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Carlynton School District. NICHOLAS J. CALABRESE

NICHOLAS J. CALABRESE is a partner with the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he focuses extensively on contract matters, including hospital corporate and physician contracts, offering advice on issues regarding Stark and the anti-kickback statute, as well as other fraud and abuse issues. In addition, he works with hospitals and medical staff leaders regarding compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, as well as accreditation requirements, including the revision of medical staff bylaws, policies, and rules and regulations. Mr. Calabrese is an editor of the Health Law Express, the firm's weekly e-newsletter on legal issues related to health law. He has presented HortySpringer audio conferences on topics including issues related to documentation of minutes, managing difficult patients, considerations for tax-exempt hospitals during election years, and physician employment contracts. Rachel E. Remaley

RACHEL E. REMALEY joined the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in 2000 and is a partner in the firm. Often described as genuine and "real," Rachel has an easy-going demeanor balanced with a detail-oriented approach. She tends to be a creative thinker, working with clients and colleagues to fashion new methods for addressing old problems. Rachel's legal practice is focused solely on hospital, health system, and medical staff matters. She has helped countless clients manage difficult credentialing and peer review issues and frequently works with hospital and physician leaders to review and revise Medical Staff Bylaws and other Medical Staff documents. Rachel often provides education regarding these matters, presenting customized onsite education to health systems, hospitals, hospital boards, and medical staff leaders regularly throughout the year. In addition, beginning in the fall of 2022, Rachel began serving as a faculty member for HortySpringer's The Complete Course for Medical Staff Leaders. She has previously served as a faculty member for a number of other HortySpringer seminars, including: The Physician Employment Institute, The Credentialing Clinic, The Peer Review Clinic, and Strategies for Managing Physician Health and Disruptive Conduct. When she's not at work, Rachel enjoys the culinary arts, traveling, and conquering her bucket list (marathon running, skydiving, and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro included), though in recent years, she has largely devoted her time to raising a family.

SUSAN LAPENTA

SUSAN LAPENTA is a partner in the law firm of Horty, Springer & Mattern, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ms. Lapenta is an Editor of the Health Law Express, a weekly e‑newsletter on the latest health law developments. She is currently a faculty member for the HortySpringer seminar Credentialing for Excellence and was previously a faculty member for The Complete Course for Medical Staff Leaders. She has worked extensively with hospitals and their medical staffs on peer review investigations and hearings and she has assisted medical staffs in the revision of medical staff governance documents including bylaws and related policies. She has also worked with systems in revising their medical staff documents to achieve uniformity and consistency and to reflect recommended best practices. Additionally, Ms. Lapenta has served as counsel in litigation stemming from credentialing decisions. Ms. Lapenta has also served on the faculty of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and on the faculty of the American Association for Physician Leadership. Ms. Lapenta received her Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University, and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She was a member of the staff and served as the Managing Editor of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review. Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Lapenta worked as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Glenn E. Mencer.
