Jackson Showalter-Cavanaugh

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Type Directors Club
Jackson Showalter-Cavanaugh studied Communication Design at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. After graduation, he cut his teeth at VSA Partners, a strategic design consultancy in Chicago, where he focused on corporate communications and branding. In 2008, he moved to Brooklyn and began designing custom fonts and logos. This work became Okay Type, which released it's first typeface, Alright Sans, in 2009. Alright was an instant success, becoming a best-seller and winning a pile of design awards. After returning to Chicago (an inarguably better place to live), Jackson continued the success of Okay Type with the launch of Harriet in 2012 and the eponymous Okay in 2019, both garnering widespread acclaim and various kudos. His latest typeface, Euchre, released in 2024 is his best work yet and is already making waves. Jackson is a proud member of the Type Directors Club in New York (since 2010) and the Society of Typographic Arts in Chicago (a "Legacy Member" since 2021). While Jackson occasionally attends type conferences like TypeCon, ATypI, and Typographics, he generally prefers not to leave the house. Occasionally, Jackson will lecture about his work and/or Chicago type history. He also gives walking tours of the Printer's Row neighborhood of Chicago focused on the nitty-gritty details of the area's printing history. Oh, and because people are going to ask: The cat's name is Books and he's insane.
