Meriel Young

Meriel Young is the owner of Meriel Young Consulting. She is a chartered marketer with 20 years experience delivering environmental; communication, engagement and improvement programmes. She's also managed many cultural programmes, including research. She's proven able to competently lead and manage a great range of programme briefs and development scenarios. Meriel selects high quality sub-contractors and specialists (where required) to support work delivery. Meriel spent over 8 years as a Ministerial appointed board member on the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority, see www.lochlomond-trossachs.org. This position covered responsibilities on all aspects of corporate governance in the establishment phase of Scotland first National Park, from visitor management strategy, communications, large scale capital projects to membership of the park regions Planning Committee. Previous to this Meriel worked for the City of Edinburgh Council within Transport Policy operating in the wide and varied context of City Development functions working on for example: outdoor access planning and facilitation, modal shift campaigns, marketing strategies for walking/cycling, establishing 20 mph zone neighbourhoods, large scale event management and communications strategy. She has lectured at Oatridge College on environmental education and countryside interpretation, progressing her specialist degree knowledge on recreation planning. She worked for 4 years in primary schools (mainly) delivering forestry education for millennium planting initiatives both as an employee and contractor to LA's and landowner NGO's. Meriel has also worked for the Woodland Trust as their Community Woodland Officer. For the last 10 years she has been an active appointed member of the Central Scotland Regional Forestry Forum (FCS)- which has the role of identifying and reviewing regional priorities for Scotlands Forestry Strategy within Central Scotland Conservancy and District.
