RIVERDALE GASTROENTEROLOGY AND LIVER DISEASES - Key Persons

Dr. Stein was born in Brooklyn, NY. He completed his undergraduate and medical school education in 1990 at C.U.N.Y. Brooklyn College and S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical School in a combined seven-year accelerated program. Dr. Stein received his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital, and the New York Veterans Administration Medical Center where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He subsequently received his gastroenterology fellowship training at New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital, and the New York Veterans Administration Medical Center. Upon completion of his gastroenterology fellowship in 1996, Dr. Stein joined Riverdale Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases. Dr. Stein is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology. He has authored many abstracts and papers which have been presented as posters at national meetings and have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is a member of the Medical Society of the State of New York, American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Dr. Stein has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (F.A.C.P.), Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (F.A.C.G.), Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (A.G.A.F.), and Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (F.A.A.S.L.D.). In addition to the practice of gastroenterology and gastrointestinal endoscopy, Dr. Stein has expertise in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastritis, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), functional bowel disorders (functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome - IBS), general hepatology, viral hepatitis, HIV associated liver diseases, and biliary endoscopy (E.R.C.P.). He has participated in clinical trials in the treatment of hepatitis C. Dr. Stein served as Chief of Hepatology at Saint Barnabas Hospital and ran their subspecialty clinics in hepatology and HIV-associated liver diseases from 1996 through 2013. He is actively involved in community-based programs focusing on the screening and treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C. Dr. Stein enjoys spending time with his wife, two daughters, and dog. He is an avid fan of all sports, particularly of baseball and football. His favorite activities include watching and attending New York Yankees baseball, New York Giants football, exercising, weight training, and snowboarding.

Dr. Jeremy Gutwein was born in Bronx, NY, and grew up in Westchester county. He received his Bachelor of Arts from New York University, Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Psychology in 1998. He received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2002 and completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. He then earned a Master of Science degree in Nutrition at New York University in 2006 and went on to receive his training in Gastroenterology, which he completed in 2009, at Montefiore Medical Center. He joined Riverdale Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases immediately following his fellowship training. Dr. Gutwein is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board certified in Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Gutwein is on the medical staff of Montefiore Medical Center, which includes the Moses division, the Montefiore North division (formerly Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center), and the Einstein (Weiler) division. Dr. Gutwein is single and lives on Manhattan's upper west side. He enjoys playing with his French Bulldog, Mortie, and spending time in Central Park.

Dr. Gutwein was born in Germany in 1947 and came to the U.S.A. at the age of three. He graduated from New York University with honors in biology and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa for his academic excellence. He attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. He went on to receive his training in Gastroenterology at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Medical Center in Manhattan. Dr. Gutwein completed his training in 1978 and began his practice of gastroenterology in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Dr. Robert Sable joined Dr. Gutwein in 1981 forming Riverdale Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases. Dr. Gutwein is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Medical Society of the State of NY and the Bronx County Medical Society. Dr. Gutwein is on the staff of Montefiore Medical Center, St. Barnabas Hospital, and Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Gutwein enjoys teaching medicine to his residents, fellows, and his sons who are also physicians. He enjoys his hobbies of building electronic circuits and woodworking.

Dr. Ader graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1976. He then attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. He went on to receive his training in Gastroenterology at the New York VA Hospital. He worked as a consultant gastroenterologist at the FDR VA Hospital in Montrose, NY, and entered private practice with Riverdale Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases in 1986. Dr. Ader is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty Board of Gastroenterology. He completed an added qualification in Geriatrics in 1990. Dr. Ader is on the clinical faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Medical Society of the State of NY and the Bronx County Medical Society. Dr. Ader is married with 3 children.

Dr. Sable was born in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and was elected to Tau Beta Phi and Eta Kappa Nu for his academic excellence. He attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. He went on to receive his training in Gastroenterology at the New York Medical College which he completed in 1978. He then began his practice in gastroenterology and along with Dr. Isadore Gutwein founded Riverdale Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases in 1981. Dr. Sable is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the subspecialty Boards of Gastroenterology and Geriatrics. He is the author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Sable is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Physicians, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Medical Society of the State of NY and the Bronx County Medical Society. He served as the Medical Staff President of St. Barnabas Hospital from 1982-1986 and is currently the Medical Staff President of Montefiore Medical Center (2005-2008). He is also the co-medical director of the Advanced Endoscopy Center. Dr. Sable enjoys teaching, reading, swimming, stamp and coin collecting, and sports. He is an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Jets. He enjoys the time that he is able to spend with his wife and three sons.
