April Varellas

April Varellas is the Brand Manager for Sonoma Clean Power. In her role, she is responsible for ensuring brand consistency internally and externally, including graphic design for all materials and collateral, designing packaging and merchandising, overseeing custom photography, maintaining website look, feel and content and overseeing ad specialty ordering and inventory. April works closely with SCP's Programs team to support the successful launch of new customer programs, assists with marketing campaigns and plays a key role in the direction, strategy, budget management and execution of SCP's Community Outreach programs. April spent six years at Sonoma Bank working directly for the CEO in Administrative, Marketing, and Corporate Communications positions. Ms. Varellas holds a Marketing Certificate from the Santa Rosa Junior College and volunteers for several local non-profit organizations. April was also a previous member of the Santa Rosa Young Professionals Network (YPN) Board of Directors, a division of the Santa Rosa Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Beau Anderson

As the Building Operations and IT Manager for Sonoma Clean Power (SCP), Beau Anderson is responsible for the day-to-day building operations of the SCP headquarters and Advanced Energy Center. In addition, he provides technical support to staff and manages SCP's IT needs. Previously, Beau was the Administrative Services Officer for SCP and acted as the agency's Clerk of the Board. He brings almost a decade of public sector experience, and in his previous work with the County of Sonoma, has supported elected officials & department heads and was responsible for the daily operations of a small county department. Beau is a first-generation college student and he graduated with departmental distinction from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in Political Science.

Brant Arthur

As Programs Manager, Brant Arthur is responsible for the development, management, and implementation of programs for customers, with special expertise in electric vehicles. Brant has previously worked at the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, Regional Climate Protection Authority, and the Climate Center, where he developed programs to promote carpooling, increase the adoption of electric vehicles, and plan for a better future with zero transportation emissions. Brant's educational background includes a Master's Degree in Development Practice from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, and a BA in Environmental Science and English. He believes that increasing the number of options for zero-emission transportation is already improving local lives, and will be key to turning the tide on the climate crisis.

Brian Goldman

Brian Goldman is the Principal Compliance Analyst at Sonoma Clean Power. His responsibilities include leading compliance filings, contributing to the development of risk oversight practices, and assisting with regulatory planning. Mr. Goldman has a decade of experience across multiple sectors of the energy industry. Prior to his current role at SCP, Brian was a Public Utilities Regulatory Analyst with the Public Advocates Office (Cal Advocates) of the California Public Utilities Commission. At Cal Advocates, Brian was the lead analyst on the Distribution Resources Plan proceeding, the investor-owned utility Data Access Plan proceeding, and the SmartMeter deployment opt-out policy proceeding in PacifiCorp's service territory. Brian also worked on Long Term Procurement Planning, Rule 21 Interconnection, SmartGrid development, and Electric Vehicle Integration matters. Prior to Cal Advocates, Brian was a regulatory and policy consultant for CleanPath Ventures where he researched once-through cooling plant retirement impacts. Brian holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Southern California, and a J.D. from UC Davis School of Law.

Bridget Abbene

Bridget is an Associate at the Advanced Energy Center, where she helps visitors learn about energy efficient technologies and solutions. In her previous role as an Advanced Energy Center Intern, she was a key point of contact for customers seeking to participate in SCP's programs. Bridget has a bachelor's degree from Sonoma State University, where she majored in Geography and focused on how societies and their environments are interconnected. She believes that collective efforts in, and between, local communities will produce meaningful solutions to the climate crisis.

Bryan Wolfe

As the Marketing Specialist for Sonoma Clean Power, Bryan Wolfe's responsibilities include managing the agency's social media strategy, creating content, promoting events and SCP's customer offerings, and supporting marketing campaigns. Bryan is a graduate of Portland State University. After spending 15 years in Portland, he returned home to Sonoma County in 2013. He brings roughly 20 years of experience in digital marketing and web design, and has worked for agencies in California and Oregon. He is passionate about using his skills to reach communities most severely impacted by the climate crisis.

Brytann Busick

Brytann Busick is the Marketing & Events Manager for Sonoma Clean Power. Her responsibilities include planning and implementing Advanced Energy Center events and educational efforts, developing partnerships that support customer offerings at the Center, facilitating contractor meetings and training opportunities, representing SCP at community, business, and industry events, fielding Center-related media inquiries, and assisting with promotional copy, graphic design, photography, and website management.

Carolyn Glanton

As Programs Operations Manager at Sonoma Clean Power, Carolyn Glanton oversees program design and implementation to reduce emissions, increase reliability and reduce energy bills for customers. Carolyn focuses on developing and evaluating programs that serve low-income, underserved, and underrepresented customers. In addition, she forms partnerships and pursues funding for customer programs, including grants. Carolyn has previously worked at the Sonoma County Regional Climate Protection Authority and Sonoma Water. She is passionate about the natural and built environment and has experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate action planning and resiliency. Carolyn is a graduate of Sonoma State University where she completed a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies & Planning with an emphasis in Energy Management & Design.

Carter Bell

In his role as a Quantitative Analyst, Carter is responsible for modeling the variable renewable resources in Sonoma Clean Power's portfolio and providing data driven decisions for optimal bidding and dispatching behaviors based on market analytics. He also provides modeling and analytical support to other general aspects of SCP's power procurement. Carter has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Davis. Prior to SCP, Carter worked as an Energy Solutions Engineer for Xcel Energy in Minneapolis, MN, where he provided engineering support to demand side management and conservation programs designed to meet energy savings and carbon free goals.

Chris Golik

In his role as Revenue Manager, Chris Golik advises on financial matters at Sonoma Clean Power including rate setting, revenue, power costs, and budgets. Chris has over 13 years of financial planning and analysis experience in a variety of roles. He previously worked at Apple in Hardware R&D Finance and Retail Finance before relocating to Sonoma County. Most recently he worked in the wine industry at Purple Brands, leading the financial planning and analysis team. Chris holds a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in Economics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he was an outfielder on the baseball team.

Claudia Sisomphou

Claudia Sisomphou is the Public Affairs and Advocacy Manager for Sonoma Clean Power. Her responsibilities include leading the agency's Empower initiative, building community relationships and coalitions, assisting with policy advocacy in Sacramento, and supporting stakeholder education and engagement, particularly around SCP's Geothermal Opportunity Zone (GeoZone) and local resource development efforts. As a Sonoma County local, Claudia has been actively involved in the community since middle school. Danielle McCants

Danielle comes from a background working for local government agencies such as the City of Rohnert Park and the Sonoma County Water Agency. Danielle holds a M.S. degree in Water Resource Management from Fresno State University and a B.A. degree in Environmental Studies & Planning with an emphasis in Water Resources Management from Sonoma State University. She also holds several water-related certifications and is certified as a LEED Green Associate.

Darin Bartow

Deb Emerson

As Managing Director of Power Procurement, Deb Emerson has a significant role in shaping Sonoma Clean Power and ensuring the agency's success. She oversees and directs all aspects of Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) Power Services. Deb has over 20 years experience in the energy industry. Previously she worked as an energy trader with Constellation Energy where she managed a variety of electricity portfolios in hydropower, natural gas, wind facilities and capacity markets. Prior to working at Constellation, Ms. Emerson was an energy trader at Williams Energy Marketing and Trading. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with an undergraduate degree and received her MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Ms. Emerson is active in a number of philanthropic efforts serving as the Co-chair for The Diversity Council at Oklahoma State University; serves on the Board of Governors at Oklahoma State University; and is a member of the City of Sonoma Cultural & Fine Arts Commission.

Local to Sonoma County, Karen is bilingual and hopes to use her position to educate and advocate for all members of our community. Karen brings over 10 years of customer service experience, including as a Manager for HopMonk Tavern Novato and as a Recruiter finding jobs for Sonoma County residents. Karen is a graduate of Sonoma State University where she completed a B.A. in Spanish with an emphasis in Linguistics. After graduation, Karen moved to Spain for a year where she taught English at an elementary school.

Kimberly Beltran

As Technical Programs Manager at Sonoma Clean Power, Kimberly Beltran provides technical support and guidance to both SCP staff and customers to foster a better understanding of current energy usage factors, efficiency and electrification upgrades, and strategies to reduce overall energy usage. Additionally, Kimberly provides ongoing technical review of the current and emerging technologies promoted by SCP and the Advanced Energy Center to ensure that each product produces quantifiable reductions in emissions, delivers intended energy and cost savings for customers, and meets expected performance targets. Kimberly has worked in the fields of energy efficiency and building systems science for 14 years. Her experience includes both the application of code, and beyond-code, performance analysis and verification for commercial, residential, affordable housing, and industry projects. She is passionate about assuring a sustainable energy future and using a systems science approach to achieving and maintaining effective use-reduction strategies. Kimberly is a graduate of Sonoma State University, where she earned a B.S. in Environmental Studies & Planning with an emphasis in Energy Management & Design. Lauren Godfrey

In her role as Administrative Aide, Lauren Godfrey assists with a wide variety of administrative tasks to support all SCP departments. Lauren brings both customer service and retail experience, most recently assisting customers as an Intern at SCP's Advanced Energy Center. His utility experience focused on developing and implementing innovative community-based energy efficiency programs that targeted underserved customers. His nonprofit work advanced sustainability initiatives that helped create more resource-efficient human-centric communities. Mike Koszalka - COO

Mr. Koszalka is Sonoma Clean Power's Chief Operating Officer. His 40+year career has been dedicated to the energy industry. His experience includes a combined 26 years at two gas and electric utilities on the West Coast (PG&E and PacifiCorp) as well as over 13 years within consulting firms (Paragon Consulting and ICF International) serving the energy utility industry. His utility experience spans customer service, product and service marketing, major account management, integrated resource planning and rate case development. He developed expertise in both energy efficiency and demand response at both utilities and consulting firms where he led program design, implementation, and evaluation. Mr. Koszalka brings extensive experience in financial management and team leadership. He has also served on the boards of the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP), the Atwater Chamber of Commerce, and is a graduate of Leadership Merced. Mr. Koszalka holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from U.C. Berkeley and an M.B.A. in marketing management from Golden Gate University. Mike serves on the Made in Santa Rosa Foundation as a Board of Director.

Miles Horton

As Legislative Policy & Community Engagement Manager, Miles represents Sonoma Clean Power in the state Capitol and leverages the organization's unique position on the cutting edge of the energy transition to help inform policy discussions around clean energy, infrastructure buildout, electric rates, and more. He also leads community engagement efforts for Sonoma Clean Power's GeoZone initiative, working to build support for local, reliable clean energy. Prior to joining Sonoma Clean Power, Miles spent seven years in the California Legislature as an aide to State Senator Scott Wiener and Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, having previously worked as a legal assistant on the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign. He is a graduate of Williams College, where he majored in Political Economy. In his free time, Miles enjoys hiking, birdwatching, and travel.

Monica Arroyo

As a bilingual Customer Service Representative for Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) Monica Arroyo supports customers with a variety of telephone and in-person inquiries, including providing general information about SCP and helping customers navigate their bills. Monica comes from a background of administrative work and years of experience working in various customer service roles. Most recently working as an ambulance dispatcher. Monica is highly motivated to empower her community with reliable information and compassionate support. Mr. Geof Syphers - CEO

Mr. Geof Syphers is the Chief Executive Officer of Sonoma Clean Power, a position he has held since the program's inception in 2013. Under his leadership, SCP now serves 600,000 people throughout Sonoma and Mendocino counties with cleaner power at competitive rates. Prior to his current position, Mr. Syphers worked for 20 years as an energy consultant to utilities, public agencies and private companies. His work has spanned micro grid design, zero-carbon community design and energy efficiency program implementation. He served as the Chief Sustainability Officer for Codding Enterprises and was the founding Director of DNV's Green Building Group.

Neal Reardon

Neal Reardon serves as Director of Regulatory Affairs at Sonoma Clean Power (SCP). He is responsible for representing SCP's customers and advocating for their interests. In addition, he oversees compliance obligations and assists with legislative efforts. Mr. Reardon has over ten years of experience in the energy industry and has worked for a variety of financial institutions and consulting groups. Prior to his current role, he was a Senior Analyst with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). In that capacity, he developed and implemented various distributed generation programs, oversaw long-term procurement planning, and advised management on the proposed regionalization of the California electric grid. Prior to joining the CPUC, Neal evaluated the financial and greenhouse gas impacts of various renewable energy assets for Roll Global. Neal holds a B.S. in Resource Management from the University of California at Berkeley, an MBA from the Fisher Graduate School of International Business, and a Master's Degree in Environmental Policy from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies.

Rebecca Simonson

Rebecca Simonson is the Director of Programs for Sonoma Clean Power (SCP). Rebecca directs all functions relating to the strategic direction, development, management, and implementation of programs that benefit customers and help solve the climate crisis. Rebecca has over 15 years of engineering experience in a variety of fields including power services and planning, building services consulting, project development and management, energy analysis, energy and water use benchmarking, master-planning for energy and water efficient community-scale developments, and monitoring and tracking of water use, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Rebecca was formerly Director of Sustainability at WSP Group in Sydney Australia and Water Agency Engineer for the Sonoma County Water Agency Energy Resources Group where she developed projects to reduce the Agency's energy demands and cost effectively generate renewable power locally to offset the Agency's large demand for power and achieve Carbon Free Water by 2015. Rebecca graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. She also holds a Master's Degree in Sustainable Development from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and an MBA from Sonoma State University. She is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of California in Mechanical Engineering and a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction.

Ryan has over 10 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to working at SCP, Ryan worked as an engineer at Chevron where his responsibilities included production operations, economic analysis, project management, and data analysis. Scott Lawrence

Mr. Lawrence serves as SCP's Commercial Accounts Manager and is an advocate for our customers. He brings over sixteen years of industry experience in utility pricing and rates. He has worked to reduce commercial, municipal, and agricultural customers' utility costs, successfully making sure they paid the least amount for the electricity they used. He has audited the electric charges for thousands of businesses and has worked with major national accounts to optimize their electric consumption. Mr. Lawrence was educated at UCLA and earned a degree in Management from UMUC.

As Program Manager at Sonoma Clean Power, Scott Salyer is responsible for the Advanced Energy Rebuild (AER) program, which is helping fire survivors in our service territory rebuild their homes more efficiently. Scott is also supporting the development of the Advanced Energy Center, a physical storefront where customers can see, learn about, and purchase innovative energy-saving products for their homes and businesses. Previously, at The Energy Coalition, Scott worked with public agencies to improve their energy efficiency, managing projects that saved cities and school districts 3.8M kilowatt-hours and 7,000 therms. His 15 years of experience in the environmental field includes work in energy efficiency, zero waste initiatives, environmental economics research, and consulting. Scott's educational background includes a B.A. in Environmental Policy and a Master of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) degree. He also holds a LEED AP O+M credential.

Sean Dalton

  • Events Specialist at the Advanced Energy Center
As an Events Specialist at the Advanced Energy Center, Sean Dalton is involved in the planning and execution of events, classes, and experiences hosted at the Center. Prior to working at Sonoma Clean Power, Sean spent over a decade as a musical director and trombonist with Royal Caribbean Cruises where he was given the opportunity to travel the world while managing a large live music entertainment program. Sean has a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from California State University Fresno. He moved back to his hometown of Santa Rosa a few years ago and is excited to take a more active role in his community, and helping bring awareness of the steps we can all take towards achieving a clean energy future.

Spandan Gandhi

Job Titles:
  • Senior Energy Analyst
As a Senior Energy Analyst, Spandan is responsible for econometric and demographic load forecasting, demand response program analysis, and behind the meter solar, battery, and EV forecasting for SCP's service territory and the surrounding region. He also assists in resource evaluation, customer usage trend analysis, long-term resource planning, and provides data and analytics support to various departments. Spandan has years of experience working as an Energy Analyst focusing on load forecasting, voltage optimization for the grid, and cost benefit analysis for various utility programs. He also has expertise in data analysis and machine learning. Spandan completed his Masters in Energy Science Technology and Policy at Carnegie Mellon University with concentration in energy data analysis, machine learning, and solar energy modelling. He also has a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, India.

Stephanie Reynolds

Stephanie provides direct support to the CEO, COO, and provides high-level coordination of the Agency's internal operations, including Human Resources, Benefits Administration, Employee Development, Accounting, public meeting and office management. As a long-time Sonoma County resident, Stephanie brings over 30 years of experience to SCP. Formerly with the County of Sonoma, in 2013, Stephanie became one of the first team members, and was an essential figure in SCP's startup period. Stephanie attended Santa Rosa Junior College and Portland State University.

Sylvia Magallanes

As a bilingual Customer Service Representative for Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) Sylvia Magallanes assists customers with a variety of telephone and in-person inquiries, including providing general information about SCP and helping customers understand their bills. Previously Ms. Magallanes worked for ten years in the purchasing and finance departments at River Rock Casino. A lifelong resident of Healdsburg, Sylvia graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College with a Certificate in Pharmacy Tech.

Tania Gibbons

As the Customer Service Manager, Tania oversees the Customer Service department at Sonoma Clean Power's Center. In this role, she helps train and prepare staff to provide the best customer service possible to our community. Tania has over 26 years of customer service experience, most recently 18+ years at Poppy Bank. Tania is also active in the community and has served on the following boards: The Windsor Chamber of Commerce, People4Parks, Greenacre Homes & School, and currently, The Children's Museum of Sonoma County.

Zechariah Jones

As a Customer Service Associate, Zechariah helps visitors of Sonoma Clean Power's Energy Center receive a best-in-class customer experience and explore ways to take climate action. Zechariah brings 12 years of customer service experience from various roles including in retail, sales, and insurance. Zechariah holds a B.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Virginia. His love of making art is only rivalled by his love for basketball, specifically supporting the Golden State Warriors. Outside of the Energy Center, you may spot Zechariah sketching or practicing his free throws at a local park.
