Brian Camilleri

Brian Camilleri is a widely experienced Barrister and predominantly conducts a commercial and equity practice, in the Common Law and Equity Divisions involving commercial disputes, corporations, trade practices and trusts. He has a special interest and focus in Class action litigation and building, construction and arbitration cases. He is a current Cost Assessor appointed by the Chief Justice under s93C of the Legal Profession Uniform Application Act (NSW) 2014 and has conducted many assessments since his appointment. He was a Part Time Member, Administrative Appeals Tribunal 2018 -2023. Aside from case preparation and related advices, numerous injunctions, interlocutory and final hearings, he has advised and appeared for State government instrumentalities, and departments, and for legal and professional partnerships, in dissolutions and in professional negligence etc. He has been involved in major mediations on behalf of commercial parties. He appears in the High Court, Supreme Court of NSW, Federal Court of Australia, District Court of NSW, Family Law and various Tribunals, and in appellate cases in all jurisdictions. He has practiced in maritime cases (general average, cargo claims, ships collisions), and in aviation law (leasing, licensing, engine failure, helicopter incidents etc). Before coming to the Bar, he was engaged by Allens, Sydney and practiced in defamation law and commercial litigation, predominantly for institutional clients involving disputes adjudicated in the Supreme Court, Common Law Division, Equity Division and High Court. His early professional years (prior to the Bar) were spent articling, in legal aid and working (six years) as a senior solicitor at Allens, Sydney. Upon admission as a Barrister, he spent several years as a member of the Sixth Floor Wentworth Chambers and Blackstone Chambers prior to joining Fourth Floor Selborne Chambers.

Bruce Connell

Bruce Connell has a commercial and equity practice, including companies, trade practices and trusts. He also has a practice in defamation and other aspects of media law. Aside from numerous interlocutory and final hearings, case preparation and related advices, his practice has included a substantial amount of advising, including for Semi- Government instrumentalities, and legal and other and professional partnerships. He has conducted a substantial number of mediations for parties. He is a certified arbitrator. He mainly appears in the Supreme Court of NSW and in the Federal Court of Australia. He has also conducted a substantial number of cases in the ACT. Before coming to the bar, he was a partner of Blake Dawson Waldron, with a practice in commercial litigation and media law, predominantly for institutional clients. His early professional years were spent working as a research assistant for the Western Australian Attorney General and the Solicitor General specialising in constitutional law, lecturing in law, articling and subsequently working as an employed solicitor at Freehills in Sydney and then working at Blake Cassels and Graydon in Toronto, Canada, specializing in commercial areas of practice including banking, and mergers and acquisitions. He has an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada conducted by thesis (parallel pricing) and coursework.

Malcolm Gracie

Malcolm Gracie has practised continuously and exclusively as a barrister since his admission to the New South Wales Bar on 20 December 1988. He has appeared as an advocate in all levels of Federal and State Courts in New South Wales. He currently specialises in advocacy and advisory work in building and construction law, commercial law, equity and trade practices. Malcolm Gracie's practice is both extensive and varied. His experience extends into many areas of practice, which has involved him in particularly noteworthy appearances in the High Court of Australia in cases involving trade practice and industrial law. He is also briefed to appear in the Land and Environment Court of New South Wales on a range of matters in that jurisdiction including development appeals and defended prosecutions. He has appeared in the Supreme Courts of the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland and Western Australia. Malcolm Gracie is a Chartered Arbitrator and has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Australian Branch) since 1997. He is a member of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (IAMA) and has been accredited as a Grade 1 Arbitrator. He has been appointed to the District Court Panel of Arbitrators since 1998. He is also an approved Arbitrator with the New South Wales Bar Association. He is also a member of the New South Wales Naval Reserve Legal Panel with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He specialises in administrative law, including appearing in Commissions of Inquiry.

Sam Duggan

Sam Duggan is a versatile barrister with experience appearing in commercial disputes, the criminal courts and commissions of inquiry. Prior to coming to the bar Sam was an insolvency litigator in a large commercial law firm. Sam is often briefed in corporations law, director's duties and building & construction disputes. More recently Sam has been briefed by the Commonwealth DPP in the areas of White Collar crime, Counter-Terrorism and money laundering. He accepts briefs in criminal matters to appear for both prosecution and defence. Sam often represents clients in high profile cases. He appeared for Cardinal George Pell AC during the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, cross examining all relevant witnesses on behalf of Cardinal Pell and also adducing evidence from him. He has appeared for the Liberal Party of Australia (NSW Division) in a number of cases ranging from an ICAC inquiry into unlawful political donations to pre-selection and branch disputes in the Supreme Court. Sam has appeared as Counsel Assisting at ICAC inquiring into an inmate assault and its cover up by senior ranking officers of Correctives Services NSW.
