B.J. Fife

With more than 15 years of experience in the health care IT industry, B.J. Fife has been with Acumen since 2010. Prior to Acumen, B.J. worked in sales and implementation of ambulatory and hospital-based electronic health record systems. B.J. is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and is a Penn State alum with a bachelor's degree in marketing. He enjoys building relationships and establishing new customers within the nephrology community.

Diana Strubler

Diana Strubler is the senior manager, policy and analytics, and directs the regulatory strategy and quality reporting activities at Acumen. This includes the implementation of technical standards and achieving ONC health IT certification. Diana guides the company and customers through the world of government programs (such as MACRA) as a contributing author to our blog, found at Acumenmd.com. She is an advocate for nephrologists in the regulatory health IT space, and is a frequent author of published articles in national health-industry journals. Previously, Diana served as the senior product analyst overseeing the Acumen 1.0 product line and has also been a trainer for Acumen's EHR. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern University, where she majored in organizational communication and health sciences.

Dugan Maddux

Dugan Maddux, MD, FACP, is the Vice President for CKD Initiatives for FMC-NA. Before her foray into the business side of medicine, Dr. Maddux spent 18 years practicing nephrology in Danville, Virginia. During this time, she and her husband, Dr. Frank Maddux, developed a nephrology-focused Electronic Health Record. She and Frank also developed Voice Expeditions, which features the Nephrology Oral History project, a collection of interviews of the early dialysis pioneers.

Franklin W. Maddux - Founder

Franklin W. Maddux, founder of Acumen Physician Solutions, brings extensive medical, business and entrepreneurial experience to the company. He serves as the chief medical officer for Fresenius Medical Care North America and is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. For 18 years, he was a staff nephrologist at Danville Urologic Clinic, and later served as its president. He has served on numerous boards and committees involved in developing technology initiatives in both the medical and regional economic development arenas. Dr. Maddux earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Hugh Gaston

Hugh Gaston leads Acumen's customer-facing operations, which continuously strive s to provide an outstanding experience to Acumen customers. Hugh previously led client and project management for Informatics Corporation of America, a company that provides enterprise, point-of-care software to regional health information exchanges. He also worked as a consultant at LBMC Healthcare Group and Accenture/Andersen Consulting as well as an engineer at Procter & Gamble. Hugh, a native Nashvillian, received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and has continued his education with executive courses at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management. Hugh enjoys traveling, working out, being a handyman, and spending time with his family, including his wife, two sons, and two Havanese named Pepper and Biscuit.

Jenifer Stevie

Jenifer is a CPA with 10 years global leadership with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and 15 years of health care experience in company leadership and finance, driving business strategies and results. She joined Fresenius Medical Care in 2015, and her experience includes serving as the division finance leader for one of the nation's largest urgent care groups and leading financial services. Jenifer is adept at working in multi-site, multi-state health care operations settings in a growth environment and is proficient in achieving growth objectives and partnering with providers to drive success. Prior to joining Fresenius Medical Care, Jenifer provided strategic practice management and revenue cycle services for hospital-based physician groups specializing in anesthesia and radiology (200-plus physicians), overseeing service delivery to more than 25 practices. Jenifer holds a master's degree in accountancy from the University of Kentucky and is an avid Wildcats basketball fan. She resides in Austin, Texas, where she enjoys spending time with her family and spoiling her pets.

Patrick Alphonso

As senior account specialist, Patrick Alphonso works directly with customers to ensure their day-to-day experience with Acumen is a successful and positive one. Having worked in health care for the last 18-plus years, nine with Acumen, in roles from business development, technical support and client relationship management, Patrick brings the ability to engage positively and effectively with customers at all levels and make sure they are taken care of. Outside of Acumen, Patrick spends as much time as possible with his wife and two daughters, but also enjoys gathering friends and neighbors together, cooking, photography and adding to his always growing collection of vinyl records.

Sam Gopal

Sam Gopal joined Fresenius Medical care in 2016. In addition to serving as President of Acumen, he is responsible for FMCNA's provider facing Connected Health technology portfolio and strategy. He has more than 20 years' experience in management consulting, corporate strategy and product management across multiple industries, including semiconductor technology, automotive supply chain, defense logistics and information management. Sam has specific experience launching and scaling startup service lines inside of large enterprise organizations, which he brings to bear for Acumen's transition to Acumen 2.0 powered by Epic and Revenue Cycle Management service offerings. Sam holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, a master's degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in management from Harvard University Extension School.

Timothy McNamara

Timothy McNamara, M.D., MPH, is a physician with an extensive background in health informatics. He brings 26 years of experience in health care IT from work in both corporate and academic environments. Dr. McNamara joined Fresenius Medical Care North America in May 2019 as a director of Clinical Health Information Technology. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at Allscripts as a physician executive assisting its clients in the evaluation, implementation and deployment of advanced clinical information systems to support accountable care, value-based care and MACRA programs. Prior to Allscripts, he served as the medical director for the Center for Health Care Informatics at the University of Kansas Medical Center and taught graduate-level courses in health care informatics with academic appointments in both the School of Medicine and School of Nursing. And prior to KUMC, he served as vice president at Cerner Corporation directing a large research staff of physicians, pharmacists, nurses and software engineers developing drug information products and pharmacokinetic algorithms for safe drug dosing, particularly in the setting of renal insufficiency and dialysis. He also oversaw Cerner's content development initiatives for clinical documentation, evidence-based ordersets, care pathways and patient education. Dr. McNamara is a graduate of the Tulane University School of Medicine and the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans and at the St. Paul Medical Center campus of UT Southwestern in Dallas.
