South Asia and Africa make up the majority of the women who have no access to mobile phones and Internet connections and rely on personal networks for information. While governments enforce closures and switch to digital platforms to disseminate information about the pandemic, less is available to support abandoned rural women. Regardless of their social status, informal workers were left without social protection measures such as money transfers introduced in response to the coronavirus pandemic... Our experience with avian influenza shows that cross-sectoral, coordinated investment in human, environmental and animal health through a one-health approach is the most cost-effective way to manage risks and control disease sources.
