BRENT J. MORRISON, NAVAL ARCHITECT
Updated 660 days ago
My earliest memories are of listening to my father's sea stories. His yarns instilled in me a healthy respect for the dangers that could befall a little purse seiner on a big ocean: from fires to groundings to big green waves, self-preservation required quick thinking and old-fashioned luck. As I grew older and more aware of the world, I learned the names of mariners who didn't catch the same lucky breaks. By age eight, I wanted to become a naval architect so I could help every seafood harvester return home safely...
A decade later, naval architecture seemed too narrow a subject to study right out of high school. Instead I pursued a classic liberal arts education at Dartmouth College. My Dartmouth education laid the foundation for my approach to engineering: seeking a broad range of multidisciplinary inputs, adapting to new information, and communicating clearly through text, graphics, and speech.
