Barry-John Rothman

Barry-John began his accounting career with BDO Spencer Steward in South Africa in 1996. He then worked in the United States before moving to Australia where he spent two years with KPMG before joining Dry Kirkness in 2010. Barry-John is the Lead Partner of our audit division and has specialist skills in the mining, oil and gas, construction, logistics, manufacturing and not-for-profit sectors. He advises clients on Australian Accounting Standards and International Financial Reporting Standards and is responsible for all training and development in our audit division.

Dean Papandreou

Dean completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2002 majoring in accounting at Curtin University. After graduating, he worked at insolvency firm KordaMentha for three years and in 2005, joined Dry Kirkness. He was promoted to Partner in July 2017. Dean provides clients with strategic advice, succession planning, compliance and offers clients a one stop solution including assisting with external CFO-type roles. Many of his clients today have benefitted from his advice since he joined the company. "I enjoy helping my clients with their development through hands-on advice and guidance. Sometimes this just involves listening to a client's problem and offering solutions. In my time at Dry Kirkness, I have developed strong relationships with my clients who value our role as their accountant." Dean has clients in the health sector including doctors, dentists and cardiologists. Other industries he has a special interest in are oil and gas, farming, food and catering, photography, surveying and art galleries. He's a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Chartered Tax Advisor and Registered Tax Agent. Dean enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer and looks forward to getting away down south for some swimming and fishing.

Emma Schoppe

Emma graduated from Macquarie University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Accounting and completed her Masters in Applied Taxation at the University of NSW. Emma's first roles were with small accounting firms in Sydney and Perth where she gained valuable experience in many areas of business and taxation. Emma joined Dry Kirkness in 2005 as a Senior Accountant and after several years as an Assistant Manager and Manager, was welcomed into the Partnership in July 2023. Emma specialises in advising on management accounting, internal audit controls. She enjoys guiding and assisting her clients with all compliance requirements including preparation of financial statements, income tax returns, business activity statements and FBT returns. Her clients include ASX listed companies, large private companies, trusts and partnerships. "My experience means I am technically strong in the application of legislation and compliance; and I have developed extensive knowledge of issues surrounding Small Business Entities and Self-Managed Superannuation Funds. Clients appreciate my ability to sort through complex issues, offer them options and assist them to develop strategies to grow their business and prepare for the future." Emma is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Tax Advisor with the Taxation Institute of Australia.

Lucy Gardner

Lucy emigrated to Australia in September 1994 and worked with one of the Big Four international firms in Perth (FYI it was EYs) specialising in Audit and Assurance. In August 1999 Lucy joined Butler Settineri where she was instrumental in establishing the audit company and was admitted as a partner in July 2007. Lucy is a Chartered Accountant, registered company auditor and registered SMSF auditor. She services a range of clients in the large private and public company arena, with extensive experience in ASX listed entities. When not at work, Lucy enjoys travelling, reading, and attending the ballet and concerts.

Martin Kirkness

Martin graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1979 with a BCom and immediately joined the audit division of Arthur Andersen. In 1984, he moved to HLB Mann Judd where he worked as a manager responsible for the audit of a number of publicly-listed companies. In 1990, Martin joined Dry Kirkness (formerly A E Dry & Co) as a partner where he developed the audit practice which now includes not-for-profit and charitable organisations in the areas of education, the arts, community services and churches. Martin has been actively involved in the administration of several not-for-profit organisations. He served as a board member of Trinity College from 1987 to 1996, is a former chairman of the finance Committee and Board member of Presbyterian Ladies College and the Board of Scitech Discovery Centre. Martin provides strategic business advice to many of Dry Kirkness' clients; and tax advice to our not-for-profit clients. As well as providing compliance tax and accounting services, Martin has a special interest in helping clients manage the succession process and helping position businesses for sale or transition to new ownership. "I like working with family businesses; to understand their vision and help them achieve their goals; and I enjoy bringing my analytical skills from auditing in the early part of my career to the consulting and business advisory work I do now. I take a holistic view of every assignment which differentiates me from other accountants who are very legalistic in their approach." Martin has a BCom (UWA), is a Fellow of both Chartered Accountants Australia and NZ, and the Taxation Institute of Australia. He is registered as a company auditor, SMSF Auditor and as a tax agent.

Robert Hall

Originally from South Africa, Robert has degrees in both Accounting and Auditing. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has been a Registered Company Auditor since 2004. At Dry Kirkness, Robert brings over 25 years of experience in the audit of large private companies, public companies listed on the ASX and a range of community organisations including local governments. He is a keen sportsman, loves playing golf, and is an active member of his triathlon club, competing regularly in competitions around Perth and southern WA. Ryan Lucas

Ryan has been a practicing accountant since 2010 when he joined Intuity Partners. He moved to Dry Kirkness in 2015. Appointed Partner of our Business Services Division in July 2019, Ryan deals with clients from a wide range of industries, and family groups. In his role, he provides our clients with advice on tax and strategic planning, structural reviews and assists with their internal accounting and financial reporting. He also prepares regular operational reports for the management of small business entities.
