Tim Kipp, CSP, has been hired as Yale Environmental Health and Safety's (EHS) new occupational health and safety manager. Kipp replaces Cathy King who retired in 2022 after 24 years of service with EHS, including the last seven years in the managerial position.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the terrific group of safety professionals at Yale EHS," Kipp said. "My background includes broad experience with physical and chemical safety programs in both academic/institutional and industrial settings, and I look forward to helping keep people safe across the full range of work that they perform at Yale."
Kipp comes to EHS after spending the last seven years as a senior consultant at GeoInsight, Inc./Verdantas, where he provided safety consulting services for private industrial clients in the US and Canada, including safety auditing, program development and implementation, and training with a focus on improving safety performance. He also brings a wide range of OSHA program experience (e.g., lockout-tagout, electrical safety, hazard communication, crane/hoist safety, fall protection) and was the company's expert in US DOT hazmat and chemical safety. Kipp served as the GeoInsight corporate EHS manager and was responsible for pandemic safety, OSHA construction (1926), HAZWOPER safety training, and incident investigations.
He previously worked as a senior consultant for GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. from 1992-2004 and again from 2008-2015, where he was responsible for environmental health and safety projects for industrial, institutional, and public-sector clients. These projects included industrial safety management, auditing, emergency response planning, and DOT hazmat, RCRA hazardous waste, and OSHA program training.
From 2004-2008, Kipp was an EHS manager for Sprague Energy Corporation and was responsible for EHS programs, compliance, and training for a $4 billion private company operating 17 marine fuel terminals, two breakbulk cargo terminals regulated under OSHA 29 CFR 1917, and a 30-vehicle tanker truck fleet operating in the greater New York area. He has extensive experience with US Coast Guard, EPA, and state regulatory programs.
Kipp earned his undergraduate degree in geology from Penn State University in 1980 and his Master of Science degree in environmental engineering from Clarkson University in 1986.
In his role with EHS, Kipp will oversee industrial hygiene, physical and laboratory safety, accident investigation, and OSHA compliance, among other programs.
"I am so looking forward to working with Tim in this role," said Kevin Charbonneau, EHS executive director. "His areas of responsibilities are far reaching here on campus, having significant touchpoints throughout our community. Please join me in welcoming Tim to Yale and the EHS team."
