Cynthia L. Kipp

Cynthia L. Kipp, O.D., joined the staff of the Florida Eye Institute in June 2010. She specializes in Low Vision Rehabilitation with over 25 years of successful private practice experience in Vero Beach as a Board Certified Optometrist. Committed to helping patients protect their visual independence, Dr. Kipp was inspired to enter the field of Low Vision Rehabilitation by her mother's struggle with vision loss. Comprehensive low vision evaluations and training are tailored to meet patient specific quality-of-life goals including reading books, newsprint and mail, writing, shopping, cooking, playing cards, knitting, using a computer, viewing a blackboard or watching TV. Dr. Kipp also prescribes personal low vision aids ranging from specialty glasses and hand-held magnifiers to advanced electronic devices. While earning her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Kipp was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa optometric honor society and was awarded citations for clinical excellence during her Low Vision Internship at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center and for outstanding scholarship by the Alumni Association. In 1985, Dr. Kipp completed a residency in Low Vision Rehabilitative Optometry at the William Feinbloom Vision Rehabilitation Center at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Kipp has been a Low Vision Panel Provider for the Florida Division of Blind Services since 1985 and has served on the Low Vision Consultants Committee of the Florida Division of Blind Services. She is a member of the Florida Optometric Association and the Low Vision Section of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Kipp participates in the Florida Low Vision Initiative grant which provides low vision evaluations and devices to children with low vision. In addition to low vision services, Dr. Kipp is dedicated to providing comprehensive eye exams and contact lens evaluations with an emphasis on problem-solving and patient education.

Dr. Christopher Shumake

Dr. Christopher Shumake joined the staff of Florida Eye Institute in July of 2015. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, he earned his bachelor and medical degrees from the University of Mississippi. Following his medical internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Dr. Shumake returned to Jackson, Mississippi to complete his Ophthalmology residency at Ole Miss, where he was elected Chief Resident and received the Louisiana & Mississippi Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology Award. With a special interest in corneal disease and transplant surgery, Dr. Shumake was selected by Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for Fellowship training. He has performed custom cataract and corneal transplant surgery for over 25 years. Dr. Shumake is a member of the Aspen Corneal Society, Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He founded The Eye Institute of Medicine and Surgery in Melbourne, Florida in 1996, where he served as Medical Director and Director of Refractive Surgery. An avid cyclist and tennis player, Dr. Shumake resides in Brevard County with his wife, Mona.

Dr. Karen D. Todd

Dr. Karen D. Todd joined the staff of Vero Beach's Florida Eye Institute in July of 1989. She practices general ophthalmology with an emphasis on the latest treatments and diagnostic testing for glaucoma. She earned her bachelor's degree in Engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee - graduating summa cum laude and being selected to the Tau Beta Phi Honorary Society. She received the Dean's Award for outstanding scholarship, graduating 1st in her class. She went on to receive her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. While there, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa societies and received the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation for scholastic achievement. Following her residency in ophthalmology at the University of California in San Francisco, she was selected by the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida in Tampa for fellowship training in glaucoma. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been an oral board examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Eye Surgery, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Todd currently serves as president of Florida Eye Institute PA. Dr. Todd resides in Vero Beach with her husband and two teenage children.

Eric D. Medina

Dr. Medina was born in New York City and grew up in Boca Raton. He graduated Summa Cum Laude at the University of Florida with a thesis on drug development for diabetes and collected numerous honors, including Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania, the world's #2 ranked medical school at that time, graduating among the top in his class. He completed his residency training at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Throughout his career, he has championed advanced cataract surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma techniques. Dr. Medina is a distinguished member of the Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, and the Palm Beach Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Medina is fluent in both Spanish and English. His hobbies outside surgery include world travel, photography, art, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Thomas A. Baudo

Thomas A. Baudo, M.D. joined the staff of Vero Beach's Florida Eye Institute in July of 2001. Dr. Baudo is a board certified ophthalmologist who completed a two year fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology at Tufts University and went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Baudo then completed his internship at Chestnut Hill Hospital and his ophthalmology residency at Hahnemann University Hospital. His interest in vitreoretinal surgery led Dr. Baudo to pursue fellowship training in this area at the Glaser-Murphy Retina Treatment Center in Baltimore, Maryland. His work in such fields as macular degeneration and vitreoretinal surgery has been published in numerous scientific journals. As a clinical investigator, he has been involved in pharmaceutical trials for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Baudo resides in Vero Beach with his family. He is an avid third baseman for the Florida Eye Institute softball team that has won numerous championships and trophies.

Wilson K. Wallace

Wilson K. Wallace, M.D. joined the staff of Florida Eye Institute in January of 2007. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, he graduated from Davidson College and Wake Forest Medical School. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology. Postgraduate training began with an internship at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. A fellowship at Moorsfields Eye Hospital in London was completed in 1973. He was chief resident and instructor of ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute from 1973 - 1974.In the past, he has been actively involved in the clinical faculty of Bascom Palmer, finishing up as a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in 2001. For the past 31 years, he has been actively practicing general ophthalmology in the Boca Raton area. He has been on staff at the Boca Raton Community Hospital since 1976. In the mid-1980's, he served as Vice President and President of the hospital medical staff. Prior to moving to Boca Raton, Dr. Wallace lived in Vero Beach and practiced ophthalmology in association with the Doctor's Clinic. Dr. Wallace and his wife, Karen, have now moved back to God's country.
