We are a member agency of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, the National Partnership for Hospice Innovation and the Georgia Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. We are especially proud to be the only hospice in the Coastal Empire to be accredited by the Joint Commission, one of the most prestigious quality reviews in American healthcare... "Hospice" is a medieval term for a way-station where travelers could rest. In the late 19th century it was applied to places where nuns cared for the dying. St. Christopher's Hospice, the first modern day hospice, was established in London, England by Dame Cicely Saunders in 1965. By the late 1970's twenty six similar institutions had sprung up in England and more than 90 hospice programs were in various stages of development in the United States.
