Joe Jacobsen is the grandson of world-famous Danish Architect and designer Arne Jacobsen. Joe studied furniture design in University and specialised in the ergonomics of chair design. His conviction towards the importance of posture and back support led him to develop a unique device for measuring the curvature of the spine. He went on to secure a world Patent on the Measuring Chair which has been the base of all the Jacobsen Back Chairs. Arne Jacobsen created the Swan a lounge chair and sofa designed in the Danish modern style in 1958 for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. He designed The Egg as-well also for the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel.
