Alan S. Bloom

Alan S. Bloom, Ph.D., is professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he teaches psychopharmacology to medical students and neuroscience graduate students. He earned a dual Ph.D. in psychology and pharmacology and consults regularly with psychiatrists and attorneys in drug abuse and other pharmacology related cases. For the past 20 years he has conducted research on the impact of drugs of abuse (marijuana, cocaine, etc.) on the brain through use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). He directs research on the cognitive effects of chemotherapy drugs administered to women with breast cancer, commonly known as "chemo-brain". His studies have been funded by the NIH and other national organizations and reported in an extensive number of publications and presentations. Dr. Bloom has served on the NIDA Center grant review panel and is an appointed member of the Controlled Substance Board of the State of Wisconsin. He is a strong and experienced presenter providing lively, information-packed seminars. Dr. Bloom encourages the active learning of participants through application of the material in case studies and problem-based learning. In 1997 he was elected to membership in the Medical College of Wisconsin Society of Teaching Scholars.

Alexia Rothman

Alexia Rothman, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Atlanta, GA, since 2004. She is a Certified Internal Family Systems therapist, an international speaker and educator on the IFS model, and a professional consultant for clinicians seeking to deepen their knowledge and practice of IFS through theoretical discussions, case consultation, technique practice, and deep, personal experiential work with their own internal systems. Dr. Rothman has received extensive training in the IFS model, primarily from IFS developer, Dr. Richard Schwartz. Dr. Rothman is a United States Presidential Scholar who graduated summa cum laude from Emory University as a Robert W. Woodruff Scholar. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she was an Edwin W. Pauley Fellow and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. She has held adjunct faculty positions at Emory University and Agnes Scott College.

Allan Wade

Allan Wade, Ph.D. is a family therapist and researcher based in Duncan, on Vancouver Island. Allan works extensively with victims and perpetrators of violent crime, including wife-assault, sexual assault and abuse, workplace abuse, humiliation, racism, physical abuse and armed robbery. As researcher, Allan is interested in the nature of violence and resistance, micro-analysis of face to face interaction (e.g., therapeutic interviews), and the connection between violence and language. Allan works closely with Linda Coates and Nick Todd, with whom he has published several articles and book chapters on Response-Based practice and The Interactional and Discursive View of Violence and Resistance. Allan teaches locally, nationally, and internationally and is Senior Faculty with City University.

Aureen Pinto Wagner

Aureen Pinto Wagner, Ph.D. is Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine, Director of The Anxiety Wellness Center in Cary, North Carolina, and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the International OCD Foundation. She is a clinical child psychologist and expert in childhood anxiety. Dr. Wagner is widely recognized for her unique Worry Hill approach to making CBT accessible to youngsters. She is a highly engaging and sought-after speaker whose workshops consistently receive outstanding reviews. Carol Oczkowska

Carol has just joined Jack Hirose and Associates and will be coordinating events in Edmonton. She holds degrees in English, journalism and ancient history, and is a freelance editor and writer. With years of experience in public relations and teaching at the post-secondary level, Carol is never happier than when with groups of people pursuing a common interest. She has also worked in television and newspapers. A "news junkie" with eclectic interests, Carol is an avid reader of non-fiction, especially of socio-political or esoteric studies. She also enjoys organizing special events and has happily tried her hand at catering. An animal lover who enjoys gardening (yes, it is possible to garden in Edmonton, occasionally), in good weather she can be found strolling the grounds at the zoo. In bad weather, she is usually in front of the fire with a good book.

Carolyn Coker Ross

Carolyn Coker Ross, MD, MPH, CEDS is an internationally known author, speaker, expert and pioneer in the use of Integrative Medicine for the treatment of eating disorders and addictions. She is a graduate of Andrew Weil's Fellowship Program in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Ross is the CEO of The Anchor Programâ„¢, an online coaching program for binge eating disorder, emotional eating and food addiction. She is the former head of the eating disorder program at internationally renowned Sierra Tucson and has served as medical director at two other programs. Charles Jacob

Jacob is a psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience conducting and overseeing the delivery of mental health services to individuals with severe mood and personality disorders as well as their families. He is past president of the Pennsylvania branch of the American Counseling Association and has been training mental health clinicians for over a decade. Christina Zampitella

Christina Zampitella Psy.D., FT is a licensed clinical psychologist, Fellow of Thanatology, founder and owner of The Center for Grief and Trauma Therapy, co-owner and Director of Clinical Services of Integrative Psychology Group. She often works as an adjunct professor and professional speaker, and especially enjoys training emerging mental health professionals. Dr. Zampitella is the host of her podcast, Phoenix Rising with Dr. Z. She focuses her clinical practice, research, course development, and teaching on bereavement studies, spirituality, nature-based therapy, and integrative psychology. She served as the chair for the Continuing Education Committee for several professional institutions and is an advisory board member of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Christine A. Courtois

Christine A. Courtois, Ph.D. is a psychologist in independent practice in Washington, DC. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in College Park in 1979. Dr. Courtois is President-Elect of Division 56 (Psychological Trauma) of the American Psychological Association and has recently published Treating Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders: An Evidence-Based Guide (2009) co-edited with Dr. Julian Ford. She has authored three other books: Recollections of Sexual Abuse: Treatment Principles and Guidelines (1999), Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse: A Workshop Model (1993), and Healing the Incest Wound: Adult Survivors in Therapy (1988, revised 2010). Christine Dargon

Christine Dargon, Ph.D., Christine is a retired psychologist. She continues her work teaching as college faculty for almost 30 years at two universities. She consults and now owns a health and wellness center, with two locations in Northern AZ, focusing on integrative techniques to help individuals of all ages such a yoga, meditation, mindfulness, breath work and much more. She continues to also train professionals in play therapy and sand tray interventions.

Colin Ross

Colin Ross, M.D. is an internationally renowned clinician, researcher, author and lecturer in the field of traumatic stress and trauma related disorders. He is the founder and President of the Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma. Dr. Ross is the Executive Medical Director of three trauma programs, located at Timberlawn Mental Health System in Dallas, Texas, Forest View Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Del Amo Hospital in Torrance, California. Dr. Ross provides treatment for patients with trauma related disorders and symptoms. Dr. Ross has written extensively on the subject of dissociation and trauma. Debra Pepler

Debra Pepler, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Research Professor of Psychology at York University and Senior Adjunct Scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children. She is a Scientific Board Member of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment. Her research focuses on aggression and victimization among children and adolescents within the peer and family contexts. She consults to and conducts research on four programs and leads a national network, PREVNet (Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence). Dr. Pepler has been honoured for her research with numerous awards including the Contribution to Knowledge Award from the Psychology Foundation of Canada, the CPA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Public or Community Service, and the Humanitarian Award from Queen's University Alumni Assn.

Dennis Daley

Dennis Daley, Ph.D. is Professor of Psychiatry and Chief of Addiction Medicine Services (AMS) at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. WPIC is one of the leading psychiatric institutions in the country, internationally known for its research in the basic sciences and clinical care. AMS has multiple treatment, research, student assistance, prevention and intervention programs. AMS serves thousands of clients each year in psychiatric hospital, residential, partial hospital, intensive outpatient and outpatient programs. Diane Spangler

Diane Spangler, Ph.D. received her doctorate from the University of Oregon and completed post-doctoral training at Stanford University. She is now an Associate Professor of Psychology at Brigham Young University, where she specializes in the research and treatment of mood, anxiety and eating disorders. She has published over 30 articles and scholarly chapters on these topics, and lectures worldwide.

Dr. Eboni Webb

Eboni Webb, PsyD, HSP, earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology (MSPP). She began her clinical work as assistant clinical director and program director at Mental Health Systems, PC (MHS), one of the largest providers of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in the United States. At MHS, Dr. Webb developed two specialized DBT treatment programs for clients with developmental disabilities and borderline-intellectual functioning. She is comprehensively certified in DBT (PESI/Evergreen Institute and Michael Maslar of Northwestern University), MBSR, and is an advanced certified practitioner in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Dr. Webb is a highly rated international trainer in DBT and is a certified trainer of DBT through the Evergreen Certification Institute and PESI. Dr. Webb trains clinicians for continuing education through various companies that include PESI, Jack Hirose and Associates, and Lane Pederson and Associates. In 2010 Dr. Webb opened the private practice Kairos in Middle Tennessee. Loraine and her husband run a small home business so she was looking for an opportunity to get out of her home office. This filled the bill nicely and she is delighted that she has met and become friends with so many attendees along the way.

Maddison White

Megan Seely

When she is not in front of a computer screen, she can be found reading, exploring nature, experimenting in the kitchen, and attending to her two black Siamese-cross felines. Megan has worked part-time with Jack Hirose and Associates since 2005.

Verona Leslie

Verona joins our team in Atlantic Canada. A Halifax native, Verona brings to Jack Hirose and Associates her strong organizational skills, knowledge of the local area and an enthusiastic personality. For over 30 years, Verona worked as an information specialist in several teaching hospital libraries. Verona has a strong interest in sports and held the position of registrar for a soccer club for over 10 years. Verona has a Bachelor's Degree in Office Administration and currently lives in Fletchers Lake, NS. She spends her winter months engaged in DYI projects, blogging, quilting and knitting. In the warmer months, with her camera over her shoulder, along with her partner, Capt. Mike, and their small dog, Whiskey, spend their time sailing along the southern coastline of Nova Scotia on their Vancouver 25.
