Valerie Peña

Job Titles:
  • Occupational Therapist
My name is Valerie Peña, I am an occupational therapist and I love what I do. I chose this profession because I enjoy helping others regain their functioning to enable them to live their lives to the fullest. I am a married mom of 3 grown children. I am also a therapy dog handler/trainer and a published author. I enjoy living a healthy, active lifestyle, as well as helping others to do the same. I have 35 years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of the hand, the wrist, the shoulder, the neck, the lower back, as well as conditions contributing to acute/chronic pain, limitations affecting muscle strength, range of motion, balance, coordination, and core stability. I believe that, to effectively treat and restore function in an individual, I need to look at the entire person and how his/her condition interferes with every aspect of daily life, and not merely focus on one area of the body. I use clinically-proven, evidence-based assessments to accurately show baseline status and progress. I am skilled in the use of manual treatment techniques, therapeutic exercise, meaningful functional activities and physical agent modalities, as appropriate, to customize my treatment plans to the individual needs of my clients. This has shown to produce positive results in those I've treated throughout my years of practice. I enjoy building a good rapport with my clients, based on mutual trust and respect, as I have found this to be a vital part in my clients' overall success. I also enjoy teaching my clients so that they may take an active role in their recovery and treatment, as this is proven to yield the best results in the long-run.
