Developer, artist and designer, Mrs. Michiels earned a reputation by designing high-profile projects for prominent clients, including: the residence of the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia; Baker Georgetown in Cady's Alley, Georgetown; the residence of Harvey Pitt; and the residence of Mitchell Rales. In 2013, Mrs. Michiels latest design for Chef Frederik DePue Table restaurant was voted Best New Restaurant in 2013. She also the lead designer for the renowned international restaurants in Washington, DC, Piola on 14 th Street. Since 2010 Mrs. Michiels is the project coordinator and construction supervisor for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Haiti and Nicaragua, and contributes to the developing countries bringing a better living for communities. She spent one year in Port-Au-Prince overseeing the reconstruction efforts after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. In 2006, she led the design of a school campus in Cambodia for ChildED based in New York, N.Y. Since 2003, Mrs. Michiels has been a member of Cocoon, LLC (d.b.a. Michiels & Partners) in Washington, DC, a design built firm that specializes in the construction and restoration of DC homes using high end modern materials and designs. She is also a partner and lead developer of Ursula, LLC a DC-based joint venture with interests in modern real estate development project. Prior to starting Cocoon, LLC, she lived and worked in Europe and South America, bringing to the Firm a diverse background and international experience. Mrs. Michiels has been a guest critic and juror at The Catholic University of America and Howard University in Washington, DC. She received her architectural training at Saint-Luc Institute in Brussels where she graduated with the honorary distinction Summa Cum Laude.
