NORTHWEST MICHIGAN SUPPORTIVE HOUSING

Northwest Michigan Supportive Housing - NMSH (originally the Foundation for Mental Health) was founded in 1987 for the purpose of bringing resources and capacity to assist with the mental health needs in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. Initial activities focused on psychiatric recruitment, evening counseling services and housing advocacy. In the mid-1990's* the focus transitioned to the critical need for supportive housing for persons with mental health needs. Since then, NMSH has grown exponentially and now serves clients in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties. NMSH pairs affordable housing with case management services designed to help clients reach their highest level of independence. NMSH contracts with nearly 40 landlords in the area to secure the "housing" in "supportive housing"... The supportive aspect of our housing refers to the supportive services provided by NMSH, such as case management, budgeting, life skills and general home/health care...
