ANDREW BANTA

Andrew is a boomerang in our West Coast shop, he started off working for our sister company Pioneer Millworks, left for a bit, then returned as a layout specialist in our timber frame shop. An avid reader, Andrew enjoys books on subjects including popular science, politics, and history. He lives in his hometown of Newberg Oregon with his girlfriend and cat Onyx.

BRETT WOOD

Brett is a project superintendent in our construction group, bringing with him extensive fine homebuilding experience throughout the Finger Lakes region of New York. Utilizing his construction management experience for sustainable design + build projects is a passion for Brett, especially when he is able to incorporate cutting edge building materials into the projects he works on. Originally from Seneca Falls New York, he enjoys exploring the natural beauty of the region with his girlfriend and their dog Yazoo.

BRIDGETTE PANEK

Our interior designer Bridgette has a love for all things sustainable design, timber frame, and residential construction. Bringing with her a background in designing immersive interiors utilizing unique natural materials, such as shou sugi ban cladding, Bridgette is also an avid blogger, tiny house enthusiast, and home remodeler in her spare time. Bridgette and her husband John recently relocated back to New York after some time living out of state, and now that they are back they enjoy exploring the Finger Lakes region together on weekends.

Bryan Bleier

Bryan is the director of our High-Performance Made Easierâ„¢ (HPEz) division, as well as our resident Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all things panelization, enclosure systems, and high-performance building products. With a background in engineering, Bryan has a passion for sustainability, natural materials, and passive house construction. When not in the office or our panel manufacturing facility, you will often find him at PHIUS meetings, sustainability conferences, and appearing on various webinars and podcasts talking about the future of construction and homebuilding. Originally from western New York, he still lives in the region with his wife Jillian, their son Beau, and two dogs Harlow & Riley.

DEANNA VARBLE

Deanna is back with our team after working in-house at Habitat for Humanity and agency-side at Dixon Schwabl. Her heart is with helping those who need it, family, farm-to-table, and anything hygge. She's a designer and wordsmith by trade, strategist and brand guardian by passion. She leads our marketing department by filling their buckets with "pretty things", snacks, and meta conversations about things like conscious capitalism or deep-dives into opinions on the latest streaming TV show. Win her over with your best dad-joke and a well-mixed Old-fashioned - she'll be yours forever.

Eric Fraser - COO

Another RIT graduate - Eric went straight from school to being a mechanical engineer for an aerospace company and then to his desk upstairs where he now manages our crew. He & Heather are proud parents of three - also known as the coordinators, cab drivers, and coach/cheerleader for their ice hockey kiddos.

GEOFF WOERNER

Geoff is a lifetime craftsman having grown up, and grown into, his family's custom fine woodworking shop in nearby Scottsville, NY. Today he leads the NEW woodworks installation crews, handles some project management, and enjoys hands-on crafting time in the shop whenever possible. He told us he "loves to work in the shop when I can. The variety of our work is great and challenging. Plus I work with some amazing fellow craftsmen!". Whenever he can, Geoff gets off the grid, hiking and spending time in the woods, preferably in a hammock. Geoff and Gail have been married for 34 years and enjoy four children and two grandkids. We hear he's also a great cook, understands sound design, and is handy with metal work.

JAKE DESMARAIS

Jacob brings his extensive background in residential home building to our east coast construction team as one of our assistant site managers. He was drawn to the New Energy Works team because of his shared love of craft, high-quality carpentry, project management, and attention to detail. He lives in a small town near our Farmington campus with his wife & dog and spends much of his free time out in nature hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with his large extended family.

JAKE HAWKINS

Originally starting out with our sister company Pioneer Millworks, Jake seamlessly transitioned to over to our HPEz team, bringing with him a background in carpentry. Inspired by his grandfather, a local engineer, Jake grew up surrounded by blueprints and construction documents, which gave him a lifelong passion and curiosity for thoughtful and complex projects. Outside of work, Jake is an avid chess & poker player, golfer, and armature astronomer. Born and raised in the Finger Lakes region, he lives near of Farmington shop with his black lab Zeke. When it comes to the sustainable nature of the work he does each day as part of our team, as he likes to say, "I wouldn't call myself a crunchy person - but I am definitely not trying to destroy the planet. Sustainability is better than waste."

JOEL JARNOT

Joel is part of our in-house finance team and brings with him extensive experience in business accounting management and company financial reporting. Born and raised in western New York, Joel has a passion for people and finding the balance between the financial needs of a business and taking care of his coworkers. Joel lives nearby our Farmington New York campus with his wife & dog and can often be found hiking and playing guitar (though rarely at the same time).

Jonathan's in Portland most of the time, overseeing the west coast end of our design & timber framing business-sometimes designing with clients, sometimes making new partnerships, sometimes onsite in a tool belt. A few times a year he hops a flight to New York to see what's kicking in Farmington. He's also been spotted in the desert or on a mountain-side getting his energy out on a dirt bike with son Jake. JORGE OCHOA

Jorge has been working in and around the construction field for as long as he can remember. Joining our West Coast Timber Frame team after college, he came to us thanks to a case of mistaken identity and got more than he bargained for raising our timber frames all over the county. Jorge was born and raised in the Salem Oregon area and moonlights as a volunteer wrestling coach and MMA fighter, but really is a kindhearted guy who loves long walks with his dog in nature deep down.

JOSH FISCHL

Our west coast timber frame finishing champion Josh is a man of few words, but expansive interests. He is an avid guitar player and voracious reader, especially all things science fiction. An Oregon native, he currently lives near our McMinnville shop.

LAUREN DeVANEY

Lauren joined our east coast design team right after graduating from Hobart & William Smith Colleges in nearby Geneva New York. She brings a passion for design + build and interior design to our team, with a specific emphasis on helping our team craft sustainable homes that speak to clients' unique lifestyles. Born and raised in Geneva, she still lives in the area with her dog Lizzy and her nameless cat, simply known as kitty. In her free time, she coaches basketball for her former college, where as a student she played both volleyball and basketball.

MARK MUSSER

When Mark, a member of our construction team, isn't building homes, he's exploring the outdoors while fishing, hiking, and camping. Much of his spare time is spent with his kids Amelia and Hans. Mark studied metal and wood sculpture at Alfred University, then lived in Connecticut for a number of years before returning to settle near our shop in Upstate New York. Mark is our panelization production manager, overseeing the day-to-day manufacturing operations of our high-performance enclosure shop in Farmington, New York. A Eagle Scout, Mark brings extensive manufacturing background to our team, along with problem solving, process development, and team leadership skills. After spending over a decade in Florida, Mark recently relocated back to New York where he lives with his wife and their two dogs. When not managing our shop, he enjoys playing ice hockey and golf, depending on the weather.

MAXWELL VOLK

Maxwell is a drafter in our Portland, Oregon studio who enjoys working on a wide variety of sustainable design projects with our team. He is passionate about maintaining good design practices, noting that to him sustainable design is about more than just material choices, but also scale, site placement, water usage, and many other factors wholistically. Maxwell is originally from rural Wisconsin, having relocated to the west coast to pursue sustainable design work, and is an avid urban-biking enthusiast and home cook.

MELISSA BIRCH

Melissa works in our west coast office as part of our finance team, helping with communication, administration, and accounting. Melissa came to us with a unique professional background working with triple bottom line companies and has a keen understanding of what being focused on People, Planet, and Profit means from a payroll, benefits, and accounting perspective. Originally from the Great Lakes area near Lake Superior, she recently relocated to the McMinnville, Oregon area with her husband after 25+ years living in the suburbs of Portland. When not at work she enjoys watching movies, doing crafts such as diamond painting, and taking day trips to the Pacific ocean.

Morgan Boser

As a member of our HPEz carpentry team, Morgan brings years of experience in framing and general construction skills to our team. With a passion for fine homebuilding, she finds working with sustainable materials and natural insulation on high-performance projects rewarding, always striving to build to the high level of quality and craft that she would want in her own home. Originally from Naples, New York, she currently lives nearby our Farmington shop in Rochester with her domestic partner. When not working in the shop or installing panels on site, she enjoys hiking, camping, and visiting national parks whenever possible.

OLIVER OGDEN

Oliver is our Assistant West Coast General Manager out of our McMinnville, OR Shop. A fifth generation Oregonian, Oliver started his career in the film and photography business in New York City, eventually finding his way back home to focus on connecting the built environment to the natural world. He traces back his love of working with wood and natural materials to his time as a young man working in a sawmill / fine cabinet making shop. There, he began to appreciate the connection to nature that working with wood can bring to life. He lives with his wife and daughter in Portland where they can often be found hiking, backpacking, and camping all around the Pacific Northwest.

PAUL PLANE

Paul came to the timber frame shop by way of our construction group and is now all grown up with lovely wife Jolene, four boys, and a 19th century timber frame farmhouse that he's whipped into shape for them all to nest in. He's an expert with reclaimed timber, often leading any project that involves old hand hewn posts and beams all while sharing tips and tricks with our newer craftsmen.

QUENTIN OLIVIER

Quentin works with our West Coast design team and brings with him a passion for hands-on craft and building sciences. Hailing from the province of Brittany in France, which is famous for its seafood & shellfish, Portland was a natural place to land with his wife in the USA. Quentin is looking for a volleyball club to join and some board game groups to roll the dice on in the area, so if you have any suggestions or want to hang out with a verified Frenchman, hit him up!

SEAN HANSEN

Sean is part of our construction group where he is actively growing his skillset as a jack of all trades on the team. With a background interest in fine woodworking and working with his hands, Sean was inspired at a young age by his grandfather, who was a construction tradesman who built a number of homes in the area. Born and raised locally in Farmington New York, he lives nearby our shop, and enjoys hiking and working on cars in his free time.

SHAWN WYJAD

Shawn came to us after 25 years in the food service industry as a restaurant chef and creator for a prominent grocery chain. He has always been into working with wood, creating furniture and more, and fixing up his family's home. Shawn found his way to us through a connection with our coworker Jake, who has been friends with Shawn for more than a decade and thought he would be a perfect fit for the team. These days he's enjoying honing his skills under the guidance of our long-time timber framers (like Jake) and going on the road to raisings.

Steve Gibbons

Job Titles:
  • Project Engineer
Stephen is a project engineer in our east coast office who works closely with our timber frame division. He is a graduate of The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) and is drawn to the sustainable and environmentally conscious work we do. With a background in commercial architecture, since joining New Energy Works Stephen enjoys being able to work directly with homeowners on their custom homes, as well as being able to explore a wide variety of building styles and designs. Originally from Syracuse New York, he recently relocated to the Rochester area, where he currently lives with his wifeMia and their grumpy little dog Rocky.

Tim Miner

As part of our quality control and finishing team in our HPEz shop, Tim brings a high degree of precision and attention to detail to our prefabricated high-performance wall, roof, and floor systems before they are sent off to be installed onsite. Tim has an extensive background in carpentry and construction, with a strong interest in green and environmentally friendly building techniques. He lives locally, a mere 10 min drive away from our Farmington, NY shop, with his domestic partner on their 5-acre farm. In his free time Tim and his family enjoy hiking, motorcycling, woodworking, and taking care of their chickens, goats, cats, dogs, and a horse.
