A PA-C or Certified Physician Assistant practicing in a family practice is able to see and treat patients from as young as a newborn to the age of 100+ years old. He can diagnose all of the same conditions and prescribe all necessary medications as a Medical Doctor; he simply must work under the supervision of a MD or DO. Philip is our PA and we are confident in his ability to care for and treat all of our patients. Philip is a native son of Virginia, having been born and raised in our capital city, Richmond. He attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he graduated on the Dean's List with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. After graduation, he then attended Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania where he received his Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies, once again graduating on the Dean's List. After graduation, Philip gained some more experience by working as a PA at Chickahominy Family Practice in Quinton, Virginia until he accepted our offer and decided to join our team. Philip joined us here at Oyster Point Family Practice in August, 2016 and he has been an excellent addition to our team of medical providers. When asked why he chose to be a PA, Philip responded, " I chose to be a Physician Assistant because I could help people in a meaningful way. My Mom is an RN and I grew up watching her help people and wanted to do the same thing. So, I chose to be a PA instead of an MD because I can care for patients in the same way and take care of them, but don't have to focus as much on the business aspects of the job. Also, it allows me to have more family time, which as a newly married man, I really appreciate now and will definitely be very thankful for in the future." Philip and his wife, Bethany, have been recently married after a lengthy courtship that began in college and they have just found and moved into their first home. They are both very active and involved in their community church and Philip plays the acoustic guitar. Philip is a physical fitness advocate and is personally committed to maintaining his own physical fitness. He is an avid runner and weight lifter.
