His corporate career spanned some 35 years culminating in heading up McCarthy Motor Holdings Western Cape as Divisional Managing Director for the Mercedes-Benz brand and its affiliates. He is a founding member and Managing Director of the Mediation and Dispute Settlement Centre and holds a MPhil degree in Labour Law from the University of Cape Town. His studies include Commercial Mediation (USB), Business Management (WITS), Advanced Negotiation (Maurice Kerrigan Institute) and Marketing Management (IMM). As past Chairman of the Family Mediators' Association of the Cape (FAMAC) and past chairman of the National Accreditation Board for Family Mediators' (NABFAM), Gerrie is one of the foremost proponents of mediation as an alternative dispute resolution process. Gerrie is accredited with DiSAC and CEDR and serves as a panellist on the Arbitration Forum of Southern Africa (AFSA) and a member of the Association of Arbitrators (Southern Africa). Gerrie also offers online mediation with disputes being resolved using online platforms such as Zoom, Skype, Microsoft teams, Whatsapp, FaceTime, and phone, ideally suited to commercial mediation, workplace mediation, disciplinary hearings, facilitation, and general meetings.
