Bill Wood leads the State Bar of Texas' Transitions to Practice Mentoring Project in Denton County for 2014-15. The project focuses on new lawyers and those re-entering the practice. Applications are accepted until September 1, 2014 For the application click here On August 10, 2014, Wood attended the inaugural convocation for University of North Texas Dallas Law School. Hon. Royal Furguson, dean of the new law school, appointed Wood to the advisory board. Wood, Thacker & Weatherly is pleased to announce that on April 1, 2016, Bill Wood was the first recipient of the Denton County Bar Association "Bill Wood MVP Award," named for its first honoree. Wood, who first served as president of the Denton County Bar Association in 1979, has continued to serve as board member, as chair of the Transitions to Practice program, on Bench-Bar committees, and in countless other ways. In accepting the award, Bill noted that it was presented on the 20th anniversary of the founding of Wood, Thacker & Weatherly. Congratulations, Bill!

The Foundation for the American Board of Trial Advocates released a new video summarizing its many programs to educate the children on the importance of the Seventh Amendment, protecting our right to trial by jury in a civil case. Weatherly has been the national board representative for the Dallas chapter since 2008, is the president-elect of the Dallas chapter, and was elected in 2014 to be one of 12 trustees of the Foundation. Check out the 5-minute video: ABOTA Foundation The American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys named board member Grace Weatherly as its representative for the American Civil Trial Bar Roundtable meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia. The roundtable is comprised of representatives from the 16 top civil trial bar organizations across the country. The American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys is the only American Bar Association-recognized entity offering national board certification in medical malpractice that is approved by the State Bar of Texas. Weatherly has served on its board of directors since 2013. Weatherly will address the State Bar of Texas' annual Advanced Civil Trial seminar participants to discuss, "Presenting Your Case in 8 hours or Less Top 10 Tips" in Dallas on August 22, 2014 and in Houston on October 31, 2014. Days after the conversation, an offer to transfer Jimmie Jackson to avoid a lay-off was withdrawn. Brian Bunt and Zachary Austin, counsel for defendant, made no settlement offer prior to the 1-week trial, parts of which appeared on local television news stations.
