Professional background: After getting a degree in Accountancy and Finance from Heriot Watt University Alisdair trained as a professional accountant with smaller practices both in the UK and Ireland. Alisdair gained experience in bookkeeping, management accounting, statutory accounting, corporation and personal taxation and auditing and qualified with ACCA. Following qualification Alisdair held finance roles within the newspaper and banking industries and more recently specialised in Corporate Finance and business start-ups before becoming the Head of Finance for Davidson and Robertson. Outside of work: Outside of work Alisdair enjoys living the family life with his wife and two sons. Alisdair brews his own wine, mead, beer and ciders with wildly varying degrees of success (he claims that he's never had to pour any away but that some have definitely taken longer to drink than others). Alisdair took up martial arts with his boys in 2017 and he's proud to have won a silver medal (for sparring) in the ITF Tae Kwon Do World Championships in 2019 and a gold medal (for sparring) and bronze medal (for patterns) in the 2020 UKTC Scottish championships.

Amy Laird

Professional background: Amy gained a 2:1 Honours Degree in Rural Business Management from SRUC Edinburgh and she started at D&R in August 2019. In Autumn of 2021 Amy qualified as a Chartered Surveyor. Outside of work: Amy helps out on the family's sheep and beef farm and is heavily involved in the breeding, showing and selling of the family's pedigree Texel sheep flock. Amy is an active member of Biggar young farmers and enjoys playing netball in her spare time.

Andrew Frank

Andrew Hamilton

Andrew is a Consultant in the Castle Douglas office, having joined Davidson and Robertson in January 2022. He was born and brought up on the family farm at Glenmanna, Thornhill. From 1984 to 1987 he attended SRUC where he obtained a National Diploma in Agriculture. Since 1987, Andrew has been a self employed farmer in Dumfriesshire.

Andrew Miller

After graduating from Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, Andrew undertook his training in estate management in Dumfries and Edinburgh before moving to Derbyshire and then back to Scotland in 2001. Andrew started at D&R in 2002. Now a Consultant at D&R, Andrew is currently involved in a variety of utility work and valuation of agricultural and rural property. Outside of work: Andrew has been known to climb a hill, go shooting, howk about a golf course and take his turn in the kitchen - but really its all about the fishing. A loch for choice but also rivers or even the sea, it matters not.

Outside of work: Debra enjoys every opportunity to travel and volunteer having recently taken trips to Bali and the Great barrier reef for turtle and coastline conservation projects. She is also happiest outdoors, indoor rock climbing, watching football or socialising with friends.

Outside of work: Doreen is a supporter of Ayr Rugby Club and enjoys watching football and fan of Manchester United. She is a past Secretary of Young Farmer's Club & District and still involved in the movement. Enjoys playing golf.

Ian Austin

Ian is the head of the Utilities, Energy and Infrastructure Department. Ian joined D&R in August 2015 becoming a Director of the business in August 2018. Ian practices across Scotland but with a particular focus to the Central Belt and his home area of Dumfries and Galloway where he heads up the Castle Douglas office. Ian completed his studies at the University of Aberdeen where he gained a First-Class Degree in Property and Finance. Having been brought up on the family Beef and Sheep farm near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway, he returned to the area and completed his professional training. Ian is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS), RICS Registered Valuer and a Fellow of the Central Association for Agricultural Valuers (FAAV) having won the President's Prize for the highest mark in the Scottish CAAV exam in 2013. Ian is also a past President of the Scottish Agricultural Arbiters and Valuation Association (SAAVA) and Past Scottish Chairman of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV).

Professional Background: Iona graduated from SRUC Edinburgh in 2022 with a BA Honours Degree in Rural Business Management. She started working with Davidson & Robertson in September 2022 and is currently working towards her Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to become a Chartered Surveyor Outside of Work: Iona grew up on a pedigree beef and sheep farm on the West coast of Scotland, and recently she has started her own pedigree Shorthorn herd. From a young age, Iona's passion has been showing cattle at agricultural shows across the country She is also a keen member of Ayr Young Farmers where she is involved in all aspects of club life. Iona also enjoys varied sports and loves the gym.

Professional background: Having joined D&R in our Cockermouth office in 2018 as a Graduate Surveyor, Joe qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in Autumn 2020. Joe became a Fellow of CAAV (Central Association of Agricultural Valuers) in 2022. Joe grew up in north Cumbria and previously worked in residential sales and lettings specialising in rural property as an Estate Agent in Carlisle. He graduated with 2:1 in Estate Management in 2015 from Northumbria University. Outside of work: At home, Joe helps to run and manage his family's pedigree herd of Belted Galloway which has had many successes in the shows and sales. He also enjoys travelling and is a keen skier.

He has been undertaking a wide range of traditional land agency tasks to include residential and commercial sales and lettings plus estate management for agricultural estates. Nigel is a RICS Registered Valuer and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Outside of work: Nigel is a keen fell walker, cyclist and photographer. Spends much time watching rugby, still manages a regular basketball session and likes to travel. Third owner of a very amateur craft brewing syndicate.

Ronald MacKenzie

Ronald MacKenzie was made a partner in the firm in 1954, and following "W.M.'s" untimely death whilst golfing at Gleneagles in 1956, he took the bold step to continue the business as a young sole practitioner. In 1964 Michael Reid Thomas joined the firm. Even in the 60's city traffic posed a problem and it was the appearance of parking meters that caused the firm to move to new premises in the former Station Master's house on Lanark Road, Balerno in 1967. In January 1969 Michael became a partner in the firm and senior partner in 1987 following Ronald MacKenzie's retirement from the partnership.
