Carissa has been trained and certified for the use of the Limelight (IPL), Excel V, Excel HR, Secret RF, and truSculpt iD . She has successfully completed the "Aesthetic Laser Procedures Course" and under the direction of Dr. Gavin Powell, the medical director of the Dermatology and Laser Center of Canyon County, offers esthetic laser treatments. Carissa is also skilled at providing medical facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasions, and microneedling procedures. She can answer all of your skin care regimen questions regarding Epionce and SkinBetter Science. Carissa is looking forward to working with you and can't wait to help you look and feel your best!
Gavin R. Powell, MD founded the Dermatology and Laser Center of Canyon County in August of 2004, with the primary goal of providing compassionate and professional skin care for his patients. The practice started with three employees including Dr. Powell and now the practice provides employment for 20 people including four clinical providers.
Dr. Powell has performed thousands of skin cancer surgical procedures over the years, which is the primary focus of his practice. In addition, he maintains an active general dermatology practice treating both common and rare diseases of the skin and has 15 years of experience and counting with the use of lasers for both cosmetic and medical conditions. He is also well versed in the use of injectable fillers and neurotoxins for cosmetic enhancement.
Dr. Powell is a published author within the specialty of Dermatology and is active academically teaching fellow physicians, medical students and the community the science of skin care.
Born in Dallas Texas, Dr. Powell gravitated to the western United States due to his love of the mountain west and the quality of life we enjoy here. He is an avid golfer and fly fisherman and enjoys his free time with his wife and two sons.
Seth Permann, PA-C (Physician Assistant Certified) grew up on a farm in Southeast Idaho. He graduated from Rockland High School as valedictorian, knowing at an early age that he wanted to practice medicine. During his time at the ISU PA program Seth knew that he wanted to work in dermatology. During his clinical year in the PA program Seth used his elective rotations to get as much exposure as possible to the field of dermatology. He spent an eight-week rotation with Dr. Gavin Powell. After graduation Seth joined Dr. Powell at DCCC and has over 10 years of experience in Dermatology. He enjoys connecting to patients young and old.
Seth and his wife have four children. He enjoys riding ATV's, camping, shooting, music, movies, and serving in his church.
Ted J. Ryser, MD earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester, NY where he was selected to be a member of the national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA). Dr. Ryser went on to serve as Chief Resident of Dermatology during his residency at the Kansas University in Kansas City, KS. During residency Dr. Ryser developed a special interest in caring for pediatric and Spanish speaking patients but is excited to care for all patients in Canyon County and the greater surrounding area.
Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Ryser was in the informational technology field. While this is now more of a hobby than a career, he is excited to integrate truly novel and useful intersections of technology and medicine into the care of his patients.
Dr. Ryser has authored in numerous peer-reviewed publications engaging in both clinical and basic science research. He is committed to providing the latest cutting-edge treatments to his patients. Dr. Ryser is aware that cutaneous disease can have a devastating physical and psychosocial impact on those afflicted. He finds his greatest professional satisfaction in empowering patients with the knowledge and tools they need to confidently take control of their skin.
Outside of the dermatology clinic Dr. Ryser enjoys spending his time with family, literature, the outdoors or ideally all of the above on a family camping trip.
Thea Heaton, PA-C grew up in Boise and feels privileged to live, work, and play in this beautiful state. Thea has practiced in the Treasure Valley since 2003 in Family Practice and Neurology, before finding her home in Dermatology. She was extensively trained by Dr. Powell when she was hired at DCCC in 2012, and enjoys the challenges and diversity of this field. Thea is comfortable seeing a wide variety of acute and chronic skin diseases in adults and children. She is especially dedicated to the prevention, early detection, and treatment of melanoma and other skin cancers in her female-dominant practice. Thea is passionate about advocating for, educating, and offering compassionate care for her patients.
Thea and her husband have two fantastic, young boys, and the four of them take every opportunity to traipse through the mountains of Idaho.
