Andrew Delbanco is named this year's Jefferson Lecturer in the Humanities Andrew Delbanco became President of The Teagle Foundation on July 1, 2018, and has served on its Board of Directors since 2009. Since 1985, he has taught at Columbia University, where he is the Alexander Hamilton Professor of American Studies. Mr. Delbanco earned his A.B., A.M., and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. Mr. Delbanco's most recent book, The War Before the War: Fugitive Slaves and the Struggle for America's Soul from the Revolution to the Civil War (Penguin Press, 2018), was named a New York Times notable book. It was awarded the Anisfield-Wolf prize for "books that have made important contributions to our understanding of racism and human diversity" and the Mark Lynton History Prize, sponsored by the Columbia Journalism School and the Nieman Foundation at Harvard, for a work "of history, on any subject, that best combines intellectual or scholarly distinction with felicity of expression." His other books include College: What It Was, Is, and Should Be (Princeton University Press, 2012), which has been translated into several languages; and Melville: His World and Work (Knopf, 2005), which was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times' Book Prize in Biography. Mr. Delbanco's essays appear regularly in The New York Review of Books and other periodicals on topics ranging from American literary and religious history to issues in higher education. He has won Columbia's Lionel Trilling Award three times, for The War Before the War (2018), Melville (2005), and The Puritan Ordeal (1990). Mr. Delbanco was elected president of the Society of American Historians for 2021-2022. He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, and was a member of the inaugural class of fellows at the New York Public Library Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers. He is a trustee of the Library of America and previously served on the boards of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the National Humanities Center, and the PEN American Center. Mr. Delbanco is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. In 2001, Time named him "America's Best Social Critic." In 2006, he was honored with the Great Teacher Award by the Society of Columbia Graduates. In 2012, President Barack Obama presented him with the National Humanities Medal "for his writings on higher education and the place classic authors hold in history and contemporary life."

Ann-Marie Buckley - CFO

Ann-Marie Buckley joined the Teagle Foundation in January 2011. She is responsible for the overall financial and operational activity of the Foundation. Ann-Marie Buckley is Chief Financial Officer of The Teagle Foundation and is responsible for the overall financial and operational activity of the Foundation. She also serves as Treasurer for the Board of Directors. She joined the Foundation in 2011. Prior to joining the Foundation, she worked at KPMG and other profit and not-for-profit organizations in the New York area. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Manhattan College in Accounting and Computer Information Systems.

Annie W. Bezbatchenko

Annie W. Bezbatchenko is Senior Program Officer at The Teagle Foundation, supporting both institutional and civic initiatives. She has been involved with the Foundation since 2011, and joined in this capacity in 2021. Previously, she consulted with Storbeck Search and the Ford Foundation. Annie has taught at New York University, Baruch College, and Sheridan College in Ontario. Her work has been published in Change Magazine, Inside Higher Ed, and The Hechinger Report. Annie serves on the Board of Directors at Ohio Humanities. She holds a Ph.D. from New York University and M.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania, both in higher education, and a B.A. in Leadership Studies from the University of Richmond.

Brian Rosenberg - President

Brian Rosenberg is president-in-residence at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and president emeritus of Macalester College. He was elected to The Teagle Foundation's Board of Directors in 2014. Dr. Rosenberg is active nationally on issues related to education, serving as a member of the Leadership Circle of the Presidents' Climate Commitment, the Council on Foreign Relations' Higher Education Working Group, the Presidents' Trust of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the Presidents' Advisory Board of the Bonner Foundation, and the board of Wallin Education Partners. He is a past chair of the board of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest, of the American Council on Education's Commission on International Initiatives, and of the Presidents' Council of Project Pericles. He is also a member of the board of directors of Allina Health. Prior to his Macalester presidency, Rosenberg was dean of the faculty and an English professor at Lawrence University. Rosenberg also served as an English professor and chair of the English department at Allegheny College. A Charles Dickens scholar, he has written numerous articles on the Victorian author and other subjects as well as two books: Little Dorrit's Shadows: Character and Contradiction in Dickens (University of Missouri Press, 1996) and Mary Lee Settle's Beulah Quintet: The Price of Freedom (LSU Press, 1991). Dr. Rosenberg served as a trustee of the Dickens Society from 2000 to 2004. He received a B.A. from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in English from Columbia University.

Elizabeth S. Boylan

Elizabeth S. Boylan directed the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation's programs on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Higher Education from 2011 to 2020, focusing on the education and professional advancement of underrepresented groups and the improvement of student learning and performance. Dr. Boylan was elected to the Board of Directors of The Teagle Foundation in 2014, and became chair of the Board in July 2021. She served as provost and dean of the faculty at Barnard College from 1995 to 2011, leading efforts promoting faculty career enhancement, curriculum reform, international education, and capital projects. Prior to Barnard, Dr. Boylan was associate provost for academic planning and programs at Queens College/CUNY and a tenured member of the biology faculty at Queens College and the CUNY Graduate Center. Major funders of her research included the National Cancer Institute and the American Federation for Aging Research. She has served on the Commission for Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the Leadership Network for International Education of the American Council on Education, and the Advisory Board of Project Kaleidoscope. Honors include election as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Frederick A. P. Barnard Award for service to Barnard College, and the Frank Abbott Award from the SREB Institute of Teaching and Mentoring. A specialist in developmental biology and hormonal carcinogenesis, she earned a Ph.D. in zoology/embryology from Cornell University and a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from Wellesley College.

Gregory N. Brown

Gregory N. Brown served as the Vice President for Finance and Administration from 2014 until his retirement in 2022. Prior to joining Swarthmore, he served as Chief Operating Officer (2008-2014) and Vice President for Finance and Planning (2006-2008) at Barnard College; as Chief Administrative Officer at Hebrew Union College (2004-2006); as Assistant Vice Chancellor and Controller for the University of California, Berkeley (1999-2004); as Controller for the city of New Haven, Conn. Loni Bordoloi Pazich

Loni Bordoloi Pazich is a Senior Program Director at The Teagle Foundation specializing in institutional initiatives. Previously, she served as research associate with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Center for Urban Education at the University of Southern California. Loni Bordoloi Pazich is a Senior Program Director at The Teagle Foundation specializing in institutional initiatives. She joined the Foundation in 2014. In this role, she is focused on efforts to ensure that all students experience a genuine liberal arts education whether they are enrolled in two- or four-year colleges. She is also responsible for the foundation's assessment activities. Previously, she served as a research associate with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Center for Urban Education at the University of Southern California. She also was a Fulbright Fellow affiliated with the Universidade Estadual de Campinas in Brazil. She teaches at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. Her work has been published by Educational Policy, Educação e Sociedade, and Routledge. Her doctoral dissertation received the Barbara K. Townsend Dissertation of the Year Award from the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students. She holds a Ph.D. from New York University and M.Ed. from the University of Southern California, both in higher education, and a B.A. in English from the University of California Los Angeles.

Mary Dana Hinton - President

Mary Dana Hinton, Ph.D., is the president of Hollins University and president emerita of the College of Saint Benedict. In addition to the Teagle Foundation, she is a member of the board of directors for the American Association of Colleges and Universities, Interfaith Youth Core, Saint Mary's School, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. She chairs the AAC&U Presidents' Trust. Hinton's scholarship focuses on leadership and inclusion in higher education. She is the author of The Commercial Church: Black Churches and the New Religious Marketplace in America and is a frequent op-ed contributor across higher education publications. Hinton earned a Ph.D. in religion and religious education with high honors from Fordham University, a Master of Arts degree in clinical child psychology from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Williams College. She also holds honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from Misericordia University and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Hinton is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, was the recipient of the Bicentennial Medal from Williams College, and was recognized with Credo's eighth annual Courageous Leadership Award.

Pauline Yu

Pauline Yu was the president of the American Council of Learned Societies until 2019 and was elected to The Teagle Foundation's Board of Directors in 2004. She was formerly Dean of Humanities in the College of Letters and Science and Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA. Prior to that appointment, she was founding chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at UC-Irvine and on the faculty of Columbia University and the University of Minnesota. She is the author or editor of five books and dozens of articles on classical Chinese poetry, literary theory, comparative poetics, and issues in the humanities. A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of its board, she is also a member of the American Philosophical Society and the Committee of 100. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange and The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation. In addition, she is a trustee of the American Academy in Berlin and the National Humanities Center. She received her B.A. in history and literature from Harvard University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in comparative literature from Stanford University. Yu holds four honorary degrees and is a senior research scholar at Columbia University.

Saskia Levy Thompson

Saskia Levy Thompson is a program director within the Carnegie Corporation's Education program, where she manages the New Designs to Advance Student Learning portfolio. Ms. Thompson brings a wealth of experience as a practitioner and system-level leader to her role at the Corporation. Most recently, Ms. Thompson served as the Deputy Director of the Research Alliance for New York City Schools, and also sat on the senior leadership team at the NYC Department of Education (DOE), where she served as Deputy Chancellor for Portfolio Planning, CEO of School Support, and Special Advisor to the Chancellor. Prior to her tenure at the DOE, she was a Senior Associate at MDRC, where she worked with school districts around the country to develop interventions and evaluations aimed at improving outcomes for disadvantaged youth. Before joining MDRC, she was the Executive Director of the Urban Assembly, a nonprofit network of high schools serving high-poverty communities.

Scott Essex

Sheryl Hilliard Tucker

Tamara Mann Tweel

Walter C. Teagle, III - President

Walter C. Teagle, III is the President of Teagle Management Company, a private investment consulting firm and Chairman Emeritus of the Teagle Foundation. Previously he was the Founder and General Partner of Groton Partners, a small merchant banking firm. Over the last 25 years he has been a Founder, Director and Officer of several entrepreneurial companies. He started his investment career at Exxon Mobil Corporation in the Treasurer's Office. After attending graduate school he became a portfolio manager at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. He currently serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of the First National Bank of Long Island. He also serves as a Director, Trustee and/or advisor to a number of philanthropic organizations. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in economics and received a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
