Dr Amit Kapur

Dr Amit Kapur is an Australian trained Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, and has recently opened his own consulting rooms within Wollongong Day Surgery on Level 2. Amit completed his medical degree at the University of Wollongong in 2010. He then commenced working as a junior doctor in the South Coast (Shoalhaven, Shellharbour, Wollongong and Bulli Hospitals) and was awarded Junior Doctor of the Year during this period. He completed both his Basic Physician Training (BPT) and Advanced Training (AT) (Gastroenterology/Hepatology) in institutions including Prince of Wales Hospital and Wollongong Hospital. He also had a teaching appointment within the University of New South Wales at this time (recipient of the Bryan Yeo Teacher Award) and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) (Gastroenterology and Hepatology) in 2018. Prior to the study and practice of medicine, Amit completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and then pursued his PhD studies in the field of protein-protein and DNA-protein interactions. Following completion of these studies, he worked in the pharmaceutical space (drug design/antibody production) as well as biomarker discovery (Oncology (ovarian and colorectal) and HIV) and was awarded NSW Innovative Scientist of the Year in 2004 for this work. He then progressed his research in the area of the manipulation of the microbiome using techniques such as Faecal Microbial Transplantation (FMT) as well as the production of novel prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics (with patents in this area). He has worked in the US, Europe as well as in Singapore/Thailand as a researcher and academic. At present, Amit has recommenced a career in academia (current appointment at the University of Wollongong and Macquarie University) and industry and continues to be involved in research with international biotechnology in the area of the GUT microbiome with ongoing patents and publications in this area. He has ongoing active research collaborations at present and continues to teach medicine as a lecturer.

Dr Arti Rattan

Dr Arti Rattan is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with extensive clinical experience in the management of gastrointestinal and liver disorders who has completed an Advanced Fellowship in Endoscopic ultrasound and latest Endoscopic management of Barrett's Oesophagus at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 2016. Dr Rattan has worked as a Gastroenterologist with Queensland Health following completion of Advanced Training in Gastroenterology at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney. Dr. Rattan is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, American Gastroenterological Association, Conjoint Committee for recognition of training in gastrointestinal endoscopy and European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy who provides gastroscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound for diagnosis and therapy of gastrointestinal and liver disorders as well as bariatric endoscopic procedures at Alexandria Day Surgery, Campbelltown Private Hospital, Central Sydney Private Hospital, Liverpool Day Surgery and Wollongong Day Surgery. She works as a Gastroenterologist with the ISHLHD at the Wollongong Hospital and is currently undertaking a PhD to investigate any role of viruses with Gastric cancer. Qualification MBBS, MD, FRACP

Dr Benjamin Kofi Oteng-Boateng

Dr Oteng-Boateng is a specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon trained in New Zealand and Australia. He completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (dental degree) with Honours at University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. He worked full time as a dentist for four years before completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree at University of Auckland. This was followed by two years practicing as a medical doctor before moving to NSW and completing four years of Advanced Surgical Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, being awarded the Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, FRACDS(OMS). During this time, he simultaneously completed a Master of Surgery degree through University of Sydney. Dr Oteng-Boateng is also a consultant surgeon at Westmead Hospital, and an honorary senior clinical lecturer at University of Wollongong Medical School. Dr Oteng-Boateng is extensively and comprehensively trained in and practices the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr Caroline Camelo

Dr Caroline Camelo graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Honours) from the Universidade De Brasilia (Brazil) in 2006. She completed a postgraduate degree in Preventive and Interceptive Orthodontics in 2007, before commencing her specialisation in Paediatric Dentistry in 2008-2009. She worked for the Brazilian Air Force as a paediatric dentist before moving to Australia with her family, where she underwent the Australian Dental Council process to practice as a dentist. She is passionate about treating the whole family, from babies to adults. As a mother of three, she understands the importance of caring and making every experience fun and relaxing for kids. She is driven by preventive dentistry. Also a member of the Australian Dental Association, Dr Camelo has always been committed to furthering her education. She believes that knowledge should be constantly updated. She is fluent in English and Portuguese and communicates well in Spanish.

Dr Mario Malkoun

Dr Mario Malkoun is a General and Laparoscopic Surgeon and Endoscopist in the Illawarra. After growing up in Sydney, he completed his undergraduate medical science degree at Sydney University and gained his Honours degree through the Westmead Millennium Institute in human genetics using DNA Microarray, a new technology at the time. He undertook his graduate medical degree at the University of Queensland and graduated with an MBBS in 2004. He returned to Wollongong for his junior medical years. Dr Malkoun subsequently began his surgical training where he completed terms around NSW in hospitals including St George Hospital, Coffs Harbour, Tweed Heads, Albury, Campbelltown and Wollongong. He later returned to Wollongong Hospital as a surgical fellow in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery where he stayed for two years. He now lives in Wollongong with his family and consults in Wollongong & Shellharbour. He is an outstanding clinician and highly skilled diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopist accredited with the conjoint committee of endoscopy. Dr Al-Hajjiri is also fluent in both Arabic and German. Dr Ravi Pather

Dr Ravi Pather graduated from the University of Sydney in 1987 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. In 1988, he acquired the Bayview Dental Practice, and, in 1990, he built it into a complete medical centre- The Bayview Medical Centre. Dr Ravi Pather has since continued his surgical training with a special interest in the field of implant dentistry. Dr Ravi Pather is a pioneer in implant surgery in the Illawarra region and successfully placed over 5,000 implants. He has attained accreditation by the Australian Society of Implant Dentistry in 2000 and has followed this with a Fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists in 2013. Dr. Anik Sarkar

Dr. Anik Sarkar is a trained Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI), Oesophagaogastric, Bariatric and General surgeon. He is also an approved robotic surgeon and a recognised endoscopist. Having completed medical school and surgical training in Australia, he underwent further subspecialty UGI training in Australia and in the UK. Dr. Sarkar's focus is in oesophago-gastric surgery (both cancer and non-cancer surgery), robotic surgery, bariatric surgery, advanced general laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopy.

Dr. Neha Tiwari

Dr. Neha Tiwari is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. She completed her physician training and gastroenterology training at Concord Hospital and Nepean Hospital. Following this, she went on to complete a fellowship in hepatology at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. After obtaining her FRACP in 2021, she embarked on an overseas fellowship at the world-renowned Toronto General Hospital, Canada, specialising in advanced hepatology (portal hypertension) under the supervision of Dr. Florence Wong. Dr. Tiwari has an interest in gastroenterology conditions including reflux, dysphagia, assessment of gastrointestinal bleeding including positive FOBT and iron deficiency anaemia, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and bowel cancer surveillance. She has a specialist interest in liver disease, including alcohol and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis (hepatitis B and C), complications of liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer prevention and treatment. She is a Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist at Wollongong Hospital, where she also runs the hepatology service. She has a keen interest in research and clinical trials and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work in conferences locally and internationally. She is involved in teaching at Wollongong Hospital. Dr Tiwari performs procedures both at Wollongong Hospital and Wollongong Day Surgery.
