Anna Tonkinson

Anna is a Senior HR Manager in our Court of Protection team, having joined us in 2020. For the 10 years prior to joining us, Anna worked in a senior HR role with a large care agency so that she is experienced in dealing with high volume and varied employment related issues. Anna is here to offer solutions and advice across all HR outputs from grievance and disciplinary, to more complex employee related advice and solution based support to family deputies who employ support workers. Anna works closely with Lucy Law, our HR Director and the HR team to lead and offer best practice on the management of our HR services for our care workers employed by our professional deputies, to support our clients.

Charlotte Crawford

Charlotte is an experienced solicitor, Director and Head of our Private Client team. She is also a Director of the Hugh Jones Trust Corporation which acts as corporate trustee and executor. Charlotte has been listed as a 'Recommended Lawyer' in the Legal 500 2024 : ‘Charlotte Crawford is my contact solicitor. Both in my role as a trustee and for personal matters she has always been patient and understanding but also efficient and professional.' She is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and has been a member of the Law Society's Private Client Section advisory committee for 5 years. Charlotte is also a full accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly. Charlotte advises clients on wills and future planning which includes advice on the use of trusts, particularly if the client has concerns about protection of their assets or wishes to provide for someone who may be disabled or unable to manage their own affairs. Charlotte also assists personal representatives and executors in the administration of estates. She is known for her sympathetic approach and works with clients in difficult circumstances to ensure that the administration process is as easy for them as possible. She also specialises in the creations and administration of trusts, particularly family and PI trusts; this might include advising trustees on their duties and the powers available to them, assisting them to comply with increasing regulatory requirements or completing tax returns and trust accounts. David Jones

David is a solicitor and a Director, working in our Court of Protection Team David has a wide understanding of the Court of Protection and mental capacity law, managing a case load of files that ranges from young children with acquired brain injuries to elderly clients living with dementia. Throughout his varied caseload, David works to assist his clients across a broad range of issues, including: Property and Finance applications; Care funding and benefits claims; Deprivation of Liberty questions; Personal Welfare; and Care proceedings. Other than helping to manage the property and financial affairs of his clients, David also has experience of representing both Applicants and Respondents in contested Court of Protection proceedings, having successfully acted both for and against lay attorneys and deputies under investigation by the Office of the Public Guardian. David also has extensive experience undertaking financial conduct investigations in to both lay and professional attorneys and deputies, accepting instructions from lay clients, the Court of Protection and various Local Authorities in recent years. In addition to his usual caseload, David regularly works with social workers in local authorities across the North West both in a professional capacity and to provide training and guidance on the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and The Court of Protection generally. Outside of work, David works with the Manchester Legal Advice Centre, offering free legal advice on capacity and welfare issues in the local community, which culminated in his being nominated for Best Contribution to Pro-Bono by an Individual at the LawWorks Awards 2017.

Lucy joined Hugh Jones Solicitors as Senior HR Manager on our Court of Protection team in April 2019 and was appointed Director in 2022. Lucy job shares this role with Anna Tonkinson and also works closely with Jenny Roberts, Operations and Compliance Director and the HR team to lead and offer best practice on the management of matters relating to Support Worker employment. Lucy has worked in a senior HR role for several years in a care setting, qualified with The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and the Institute of Leadership and Management. Lucy is experienced in dealing with high volume and varied employment related issues. Lucy is here to offer solutions and advice across all HR outputs from grievance and disciplinary, to more complex employee related advice and solution based support to family deputies who employ support workers. Jenny is Operations and Compliance Director, having joined the firm in 2013 as a Court of Protection specialist solicitor. Jenny now has a wide range of management responsibilities across the firm as a whole in addition to her work as a Director in the Court of Protection Team. Her main areas of responsibility include operational management of the firm's office and support teams; overall responsibility for HR, reported to by Director Lucy Law; overall responsibility for compliance and regulation, working closely with Rachel Dobson, Consultant Director. Jenny is part of the firm's management team, working closely with Managing Director Liz Hughes and FD Jon Miller.

Jon is a chartered accountant and has been Finance Director at Hugh Jones Solicitors since working with Hugh Jones and Rachel Dobson to set up the firm in 2013. In addition to being responsible for financial planning & strategy, management information and supervision of the transaction processing team, Jon also has primary responsibility for information technology in the company. Jon provides personal tax advice to our Court of Protection clients, including the completion of income tax returns. Jon qualified as a chartered accountant in 1985, working for Deloitte in Nottingham, London, Bermuda and Manchester before moving into industry. Jon has been working within the legal sector since 1997, including senior financial roles at both Addleshaws and Pannone. Since 2011 Jon has been a director of Evolve Legal Business Solutions, a company providing financial management advice to law firms. Jon's experience includes all aspects of law firm financial management and his experience as a consultant with other legal practices includes profitability review, cash improvement strategies, reporting to banks, financial system enhancement and reviews of profit-sharing arrangements. Jon has spoken on sector-related topics at various breakfast seminars in the north-west and was involved in the in-house legal sector training of NatWest Bank relationship managers in 2012 and 2013

She practiced as a Personal Injury Solicitor until deciding upon a career change in 2018 after having her two children. Lucy joined the firm's Case Worker team in 2022, following 15 years of experience in this role at another practice. Lucy has a significant level of experience working with clients with impaired capacity, and their families, in the management of their financial affairs. She ensures that the day to day financial affairs of our deputyship clients are looked after - from arranging mobile phones, to paying bills, insuring vehicles and properties or even helping with arranging holidays. Lucy builds strong relationships with her clients, their families and other professionals and believes that this is vital to ensure that the client's financial needs are met. She is often the first point of contact for clients and works as part of a team with a solicitor or executive on each professional deputyship matter, under the guidance of the Deputy.
