Caprice D. Haverty

Caprice D. Haverty, PhD is a clinical and forensic psychologist and the Co-Executive Director of A Step Forward, Inc. (ASF). She created and directs ASF's Sexual Harm Prevention Program, which provides interventions and/or treatment for those with histories of sexual offending and sexual addiction. She also created the non-offending parent program. For over 25 years, Dr. Haverty has offered individual and group treatment for adult victims of child sexual abuse, perpetrators of sexual assault, those struggling with sexual addiction, and non-offending parents. She also works with families and communities to facilitate re-entry and reconciliation for men who have committed sexual offenses. Dr. Haverty is a CASOMB (California Sex Offender Management Board) certified specialist who offers forensic evaluation and testimony and consults with organizations advocating for both survivors and perpetrators. In 2008, she founded CORR (Community of Resource & Resolution), a no-cost drop-in program for men with sexual behavioral problems voluntarily seeking early intervention or aftercare. Dr. Haverty received her doctorate in psychology in 1989 after conducting original research on the differential symptoms of physical and sexual childhood abuse among incarcerated women.

Diana Jones

Diana Jones joined A Step Forward, Inc. (ASF) in Jan 2011, bringing with her over 30 years of successful small business management and ownership experience. In addition to managing the front office, phones, budget, and various needs of our staff members and clinicians, Ms. Jones strives to create a sense of community as well as a comforting environment as she greets new and ongoing patients and attends to their questions and concerns. Having worked through her own journey of healing and understanding, she feels compassion and empathy for those who walk through the door and is happy to provide a welcoming and safe environment to both victims and perpetrators of child sexual abuse. She has adopted the ASF motto: "If we really want to prevent childhood sexual abuse, we have to understand and manage it from all angles." Outside of ASF, Ms. Jones volunteers in various community organizations and teaches a ‘special needs' Sunday School class at her church. Ms. Jones has also enjoyed 43 years of marriage, raised two sons, and loves spending time with her garden and her three granddaughters.

Emmanuel (Manny) Ellison

Emmanuel Ellison brings a wealth of experience working with the Latino and Spanish-speaking communities as a translator, health educator, and librarian to his work as a paraprofessional with A Step Forward, Inc. (ASF). He strongly believes in providing support to people who are often misrepresented and underserved in our society. At ASF, Mr. Ellison co-facilitates the Spanish speaking men's group with a licensed mental health professional and also provides translation support to Spanish-speaking men in treatment. Mr. Ellison's hobbies include cooking, reading, and listening to music. He is currently in the process of becoming a Peer Support Specialist through the California Department of Health Care Services to further his passion in assisting the undeserved.

Kyle Chin Fong

Kyle Chin Fong, LCSW, received his Master's in Social Work with a clinical focus from Boston University in 2019. Mr. Fong has worked with a wide range of clients from diverse backgrounds and ethnic groups and sexual orientations. At the residential treatment center in Palo Alto, Momentum for Health, Mr. Fong helped stabilize and resource clients who were in crisis. Much of his clinical experience is with adult survivors of childhood abuse and neglect. Mr. Fong is experienced in trauma processing treatment and offers guided support toward trauma resolution. Mr. Fong has a special interest in prevention programs, especially those focused on adolescents who have sexually offended. Mr. Fong's approach is client centered: attentive and gentle. As a son, husband, father, and fellow human, he knows trauma is devastating, and knows it can be overcome. He provides therapy in both English and Cantonese.

Rick Barclay

Rick Barclay has been a contract paraprofessional with A Step Forward, Inc. (ASF) since 2017. At ASF, he provides group co-facilitating services with licensed therapists and supervised individual support services to men who commit sexual offenses. Mr. Barclay has also been active in ASF's non-profit affiliate, Community Of Resource & Resolution (CORR), since its inception in 2008, serving as Treasurer of the Board of Directors and co-facilitating the Men's and Community Support Group meetings. In addition to his work with ASF and CORR, he delivers presentations to graduate level psychology classes on the subject of Sex Offender Treatment. Mr. Barclay earned a Certificate of Achievement in Addiction Studies from Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California, and is currently in the process of earning his Peer Support Specialist certification through the California Department of Health Care Services.

Stephanie Young

Stephanie Young, PhD (PSY 32569), is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her earliest experiences in the field of mental health were with foster youth in residential treatment. This work formed a passionate foundation which cemented her commitment to people who are overlooked by society-including those involved in the criminal justice system. As a clinical and forensic psychologist, she has conducted individual and group therapy with men and women both during and following incarceration; and she has conducted court-ordered mental health evaluations for adolescents charged with delinquent behaviors. She also worked at STRIVE, a program for teens who sexually offend. At Strive she provided individual and group therapy, recidivism risk assessments, and family reunification therapy post-offense. Dr. Young is also experienced and passionate about neuropsychological and psychological assessment. She supervises predoctoral interns in neuropsychological assessment at Access Institute in San Francisco and serves on their Board of Directors. She is currently a member of the private provider network (PPN) in San Francisco County, where she conducts juvenile delinquency and dependency evaluations for the court. Dr. Young graduated from Palo Alto University after completing original research on adolescent substance abuse and negative sexual experiences in 2019.
