Laura Bustamante is a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Deanna Barch. She completed her Ph.D. at the Princeton Neuroscience Institute where she studied individual differences in motivation to exert cognitive and physical effort. Her research focuses on computational approaches to understand psychiatric symptoms, such as cognitive control difficulties and apathy. She is interested in the cognitive processes underlying successfully achieving goals, as well as what prevents people from achieving their goals. Laura plans to bring disability justice in conversation with computational psychiatry. She aims to move towards strengths-based research on neurodivergent populations, includes individuals with psychiatric disabilities in the research process, and focuses on removing barriers to access for disabled people in line with the social model of disability.

She is interested in becoming a clinical psychologist as well as becoming a health communication designer and hopes to find an intersection between her interests. In her free time she enjoys crocheting, foraging, and hanging out with her dog Thor.

Thomas is a graduate student working with Dr. Todd Braver. He received a B.A. in Psychology at Princeton where he studied attentional mechanisms in change detection. He also received an M.A. at UChicago where he worked with Professor Howard Nusbaum on generalized auditory perceptual learning. He is using multilevel models to study between-subject and within-subject variability in cognitive control for both healthy and vulnerable populations.
