Jean Hayes

Jean Hayes, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Ph.D. graduate of the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, has over 27 years of professional training and personal development as a Family Therapist and individual, psychodynamic ego psychotherapist. She is an action-method therapist using Psychodrama, Gestalt, and the Client-Therapist relationship to uncover and work through the hurt of childhood wounds. Through this process, Jean helps her clients find their deepest sense of self and inner voice, thereby being able to express their needs, wants, and boundaries with utmost authenticity. Jean specializes in reconstructing relationships that are troubled, bringing together and working with multi-generational family groups; intervention and long-term recovery from alcohol, drugs, and eating disorder concerns; and developmental issues of aging. Her dissertation research was on long-term weight management and lifestyle change. As a result of her research, she has developed a comprehensive, innovative model for successful treatment for eating disorders. Jean also has expertise in organizational development and has developed and delivered management training programs to employees in organizations such as Levi Strauss, Hewlett-Packard, Memorex, and Miramonte Mental Health Center. Katz and Jason Saffer, as well as her affiliated colleagues at the Center for Creative Growth. John pioneered the concept of the "inner child" and brought the term "dysfunctional family" into the mainstream. He has touched and changed millions of lives through his books, television series, and his lectures and workshops all over the world. We were very grateful to have years of personal contact and training with John. It was with deep sadness that we learned the news of John Bradshaw's passing in May, 2016. For his New York Times obituary, please click here. John lived everything he wrote about. Born in Houston, Texas, into a troubled family, abandoned by his alcoholic father, he became a high academic achiever who was also an out-of-control teenager. He completed his education in Canada, where he studied for the Roman Catholic priesthood, earning three degrees from the University of Toronto. During his lifetime (1933-2016), he worked as a counselor, theologian, management consultant, and public speaker, becoming one of the primary figures in the contemporary self-help movement. He combined his exceptional skills as counselor, author, theologian, and public speaker over four decades to become a world-renowned figure in the fields of addiction, recovery, family systems, and the concept of toxic shame.
