Dr. David W. Palmer

Palmer holds a Bachelor of Science, with a concentration in computer science, from Samford University, an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama, and a Doctor of Philosophy in marketing from the University of Alabama. Before joining academia, Palmer spent most of his business career working in the information technology side of the life and health insurance industry as a programmer, systems analyst, and executive. While in the insurance industry, he earned the designation of Fellow, Life Management Institute. He is also an alumnus of Leadership Tuscaloosa (Alabama). Palmer served as associate professor of management and marketing at Jacksonville State University (Alabama). While on faculty at Jacksonville State, he was recognized multiple times for excellence in teaching, research, and service at both the university and college levels. He joined the CSU faculty as associate professor and director of graduate programs in 2016. He became dean in 2017. During his tenure as dean, the college has received a naming gift from the Nielsen Family, an endowment for the Breland/Adams Chair in Business, and seen the faculty support the university with 100% giving. The college has also supported study abroad, business-as-mission travel, and international travel to improve students' awareness of the international aspects of business. Palmer and his wife, Betty, both work at Charleston Southern. They have one daughter and live in North Charleston. The Palmers are members of Seacoast Church.

Dr. Maxwell Rollins

Dr. Maxwell Rollins serves as Director of the Graduate Programs and tenured professor in the Nielsen College of Business at Charleston Southern University. Rollins holds a Bachelor of Science, with a major in mathematics and a concentration in economics, from The College of Charleston, a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in mathematics from The Citadel, a Master of Business Administration from Charleston Southern University, and a Doctor of Business Administration in leadership from Liberty University. He joined the CSU faculty as a visiting professor in 1993 in the College of Business. In 1994, he moved to the Mathematics Department and served for 13 years as an Instructor and Assistant Professor teaching statistics, algebra, business calculus, history of mathematics, and mathematical structures. He transitioned back to the Nielsen College of Business in 2007 to teach undergraduate finance, business and economics statistics, management, microeconomics and macroeconomics, business communications, introduction to business, small business management, business plan development, and leadership. Since earning his DBA in 2017, he now also teaches graduate leadership and ethics courses. He has received the CSU Excellence in Teaching and Professor of the Year awards. He has also been honored twice with the Faculty Member of the Year award from the College of Business. In 1999, he was awarded the Governor's Distinguished Professor Award. He is the faculty sponsor for two honor societies, Alpha Chi and Sigma Beta Delta. Due to his academic background in leadership, he assists with the Leadership Institute and the President's Cabinet Leadership. Rollins was also an entrepreneur and small business owner for 40 years operating a mobile disc jockey service that provided entertainment primarily for weddings and receptions. He sold his company in 2022 to one of his DJs who still serves the Greater Charleston area. Rollins wrote for the DJ industry magazine Mobile Beat for 27 years and sold a book to other disc jockeys on what to play at events for 25 years. He was also a radio disc jockey, beginning in high school in Blakely, Georgia, and on several radio stations in the Charleston area prior to beginning his teaching career. His passion for entrepreneurship and helping others by mentoring them led him to conduct his doctoral research on the views and attitudes of women entrepreneurs in establishing a mentoring relationship. Rollins served six years in the United States Navy as a nuclear trained machinist mate. His last command was aboard the submarine, John C. Calhoun SSBN630, stationed in Charleston. His primary areas of research are in leadership, entrepreneurship, and pedagogy. Rollins and his wife, Donna (a CSU graduate), have two grown children, Rebecca (also a CSU graduate) and Robert, and a granddaughter born in 2022. Rollins and his wife reside in Summerville and are active members of Summerville Baptist Church, an SBC congregation, where he serves as an adult Sunday School teacher.

Janet Joslin

Jan Joslin has three decades of experience in higher education, working in marketing and communication and student services. In her current position as editorial director, she serves as editor of CSU Magazine and is the primary writer and editor for the university. Former areas of work included coordinating student activities and new student orientation and serving as the adviser to student media. Prior to higher education, she was as a customer service representative for a global company.

Jenna Johnson

Jenna Johnson joined the Charleston Southern University Marketing and Communication team in 2017 and oversees strategic marketing initiatives and serves as the executive director of marketing and communication and chief communication officer for the university. A Clemson University graduate (BA in Political Science) and a CSU Buc (MBA), Johnson's career began in media relations for political camps and continued on in both the private and nonprofit sector. She has unique perspective and experience in brand management, marketing strategy, grant writing, and public relations. Johnson co-founded the first Young Nonprofit Professionals Network chapter in South Carolina in 2015 and was chosen as one of the 20 to Know in North Charleston by the Post & Courier in 2016. In 2019, Jenna was honored as one of the Charleston Regional Business Journal's Forty Under 40. Her latest honor was being selected as one of the Best & Brightest 35 and Under by the Charleston Business Magazine in 2021. Johnson's primary areas of interest are in crisis communication, organizational leadership, and nonprofit management. Outside of work, she spends a great deal of time volunteering at her church, supporting her favorite charities, coaching little league soccer and tee ball, and connecting with other notable causes in the community. She resides in Hanahan with her husband, Josh, and their two young children.

Mark Crawford

Job Titles:

Mark Crawford serves as an associate professor and the department chair of the Hans A. Nielsen College of Business at Charleston Southern University. Prior to joining CSU, Crawford served for 7 years as a Judge Advocate for the US Marine Corps. During that time, he also entered higher education as an assistant professor and Naval ROTC unit at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. In July 2000, Prof. Crawford entered private practice as an attorney working in the Charleston area for another 7 years. In 2007, he returned to higher education, joining the full-time faculty at Charleston Southern University. He teaches ethics, business law, commercial law, and human resource law at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

McKenzie Hagwood

McKenzie Hagwood joined the Charleston Southern Marketing and Communication team in 2022 and oversees the university's website and social media pages. A recent Bachelor of mass communications and Master of Business Administration graduate, McKenzie is passionate about the use of data analytics in marketing. Her previous professional experience includes social media management and consulting.

Miranda Asson

Miranda serves as the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication at CSU. She brings over 8 years of experience in communications and a passion for creating, serving, and leading. Miranda's previous experience includes over six years' experience as a morning personality during the Steve Harvey Morning Show, Community Relations Director for the Block, and Host of a community affairs and PSA show that highlighted local businesses and non-profits. She has served as a Christian radio personality for a live gospel radio show and assisted the staff with all marketing and communication needs. She is known for her ability to spearhead the development of communication concepts and has a passion to inspire others to build, engage and connect with their community. Miranda received the Star Award for the best use of Digital Platforms from the SC Broadcasters Association in 2018. She is a Riley Fellow from the Diversity Leadership Institute from Furman University. Her previous experience includes workforce development, serving as the liaison between Spartanburg and Greenville County Workforce as a Project Manager, and working in nonprofit managing Job Connections for Goodwill Industries of the Upstate/Midlands.

Timothy Grant

Timothy Nathaniel Grant is a native of Charleston, South Carolina and is the last child out of nine children born to Bishop Carl M. and Mrs. Jacqueline L. Grant. He is married to his college sweetheart Kamilah Holloway Grant and are blessed with two beautiful daughters Lilah Brielle and Iva Noelle. Timothy received his education in the public schools of Charleston and Dorchester counties, graduating in 2001 from West Ashley High School. Seeking to further his education he enrolled in Trident Technical College and later transferred to Limestone College where he graduated in 2008 with a Dual Bachelors' of Science in Business. Grant later furthered his education at Liberty University graduating in 2014 with a Master of Arts in Theological Studies and in 2018 with a Master of Divinity in Leadership. Grant serves as the Associate Dean for Students Engagement and the Chief Diversity Officer for Charleston Southern University. Since joining Charleston Southern University, Grant has served in several positions such as Night Shift Security Supervisor, Interim Director of Security, Deputy Director of Security, and Assistant Dean for Residence Life. In his current role Grant oversees the office of Students Activities, over 50 student clubs and organizations, the CSU One Accord Gospel Choir and Praise Dancers, all diversity efforts for the university and sits on the President's Cabinet. Grant also serves as a mentor to many CSU students and throughout the tri-county area. Through his leadership at Charleston Southern University a Diversity Council has been established, a Diversity Webpage has been added to the CSU website, a CSU Women's History luncheon has been established, various forums are held throughout the academic year to unite the student and he also provide guest lecturers in the classroom. Grant also is a member of the CSU BUC Club which provides scholarship for Athletes and is a member of CSU Board of Visitors which provides scholarship for all students.
