As a junior player, Gabe had the opportunity to play on both the Swedish and Australian circuits. In his early years, Gabe went on to win many junior events, including the prestigious Doug Sanders Junior International in Scotland in 1989. In addition, he won the 1990 Eisenhower Trophy for Sweden at The World Amateur Team Championships. At 19 Gabe turned pro, The same year he earned the Australian Tour Rookie of the Year Award...
Gabe began his remarkable amateur career by helping to launch Sweden into the international golf spotlight. His victory in the European Boys Championship and Doug Sanders World Junior Championship in 1989 proved that he had the potential to become one of the world's finest golfers. In 1990, he was one of four players chosen to represent Sweden in the World Amateur Team Championship held in New Zealand. Gabriel's individual performance at the championship was a deciding factor in Sweden's 13 stroke victory in the event.
