Brian concentrates his practice in the areas of employment law, civil rights, education law and commercial litigation. He is Chair of the firm's Employment & Labor Practice and he has extensive experience defending employers, including educational institutions, in federal and state courts, and administrative proceedings before the EEOC and IDHR. Brian's experience representing employers encompasses disciplinary actions, discrimination claims, terminations, wage-and-hour issues, restrictive covenants, employment agreements, and various leave issues. Brian has also represented businesses in commercial litigation relating to contract, agribusiness, and construction disputes.
Brian's practice also entails defending government and law-enforcement officials and medical professionals in cases alleging violations of constitutional rights. He has also defended clients in tort litigation, including cases arising from automobile and commercial trucking accidents.
Brian received his law degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law. Prior to law school, he worked in campus ministry, where his duties included management of staff and volunteers. During law school, he was a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois College of Law and a member of the University of Illinois Law Review. Brian has also been a guest presenter at the University of Illinois College of Law's Trial Advocacy class.

Tyler is the Chair of our firm's Long Term Care/Nursing Homes Practice and regularly defends physicians, nurses, and long term care facilities in professional liability and institutional negligence claims involving significant injuries and death. Tyler also concentrates his practice in the area of professional liability where he defends physicians throughout Illinois in a broad variety of cases, including obstetrics, internal medicine, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, radiology, emergency medicine, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, surgery, and family medicine. Tyler has represented clients in all aspects of complex litigation, including jury trials and mediations.
Tyler is also the Chair of our firm's Qui Tam (Whistleblower) Practice. In that role, Tyler's practice is focused on defending healthcare providers against qui tam lawsuits filed pursuant to the False Claims Act and similar state false claims laws. His experience includes working extensively with the U.S. Department of Justice on qui tam litigation involving pharmaceutical and medical device companies, long term care providers, and a wide variety of government contractors and federal program participants, specifically regarding federal and state drug pricing methodologies and reporting requirements. Since joining Heyl Royster, Tyler has consulted and represented a diverse group of healthcare professionals and entities during all phases of qui tam litigation.
Tyler also regularly advises hospitals, physician practices, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare organizations regarding complex statutory and regulatory matters, including the Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute. With his unique background in working with federal and state governmental agencies, including CMS, DOJ, and OIG, Tyler has developed a special focus in advising hospitals and other healthcare organizations regarding Medicare and Medicaid compliance, overpayment and reporting issues. From advising healthcare providers that have identified Medicare and/or Medicaid billing issues to developing and drafting CMS and OIG self-disclosures and negotiating resolutions, Tyler has extensive experience representing healthcare clients during all phases of the overpayment and reporting process.
Tyler received his law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2010, where he was a member of the Journal of Legal Medicine. He is a member of the Symposium Committee in the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, Health Care Compliance Association, and a member of the Management & Professional Liability Community and committee member of the Medical/Healthcare (Medical Malpractice) group in the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance.

Rex Linder - Chief Legal Officer
Rex concentrates his practice in the area of civil litigation in federal and state courts, including the defense of professional and product liability cases involving potentially significant damages. He has represented numerous physicians, hospitals, medical schools and attorneys in professional liability matters. He is a recognized product liability authority representing many manufacturers and distributors in catastrophic injury cases.
Rex has held numerous leadership positions in many professional organizations at the International, national and local levels. He is frequently called upon to speak on product and professional liability issues before business and professional organizations. He is also a regular lecturer and author for various legal organizations concerning trial tactics and strategies.

Sarah McMillin focuses her practice on defending clients in civil litigation, including Business and Commercial Litigation. She has extensive experience in general litigation, business services, estate planning, trusts, and probate, foreclosures, and residential and commercial real estate transactions. Joining the firm's Jackson office in 2021, Sarah is licensed in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Sarah received her J.D., cum laude, from Mississippi College of Law and a B.A. in Journalism and a B.A. in English from the University of Mississippi. Prior to joining Heyl Royster, Sarah worked for several years at well-respected private law firms in Jackson and Vicksburg, Mississippi.
