HIBBERD LAB

We are interested in the evolution and assembly of photosynthetic apparatus in plants. In particular, we focus on the C 4 leaf, where photosynthesis is compartmented between mesophyll and bundle sheath cells... In collaboration with the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines, and other partners we are members of an international consortium that aims to intiate work on this Grand Challenge. In addition to the collaborative work on C 4 rice, we also have strong collaborations with a number of other groups around the world... We study C4 photosynthesis, how it evolved, how is it controlled at the molecular level, and how we can engineer it.
